Part 6: Bolin in trouble
Time had passed again since Korra had officially joined the fire ferrets as their water bender while she and Jak continued their air bending training on air temple Island, "Alright I'm ready," said Jak who was standing in the courtyard surrounded by air acolytes wielding small staffs. Jak himself was blindfolded to practice seeing with earth bending.
"Ahh,"" one of them said running at him with his staff held in the air. Jak grabbed the staff before throwing the man over his head making him grunt in pain as he landed on his back on the ground.
"I didn't need two sense the vibrations for that one," Jak said smiling as he helped the man up before dodging a swipe from another staff and encasing the feet of the one who tried to strike him with earth.
Then two of them tried to strike at once, but he jumped into the air with a blast of air. When he landed on the ground his bare feet touched the ground first and he could sense the two acolytes behind him. He spun around while sending a slash of air at them, making them fall on their stomachs.
"You almost got me with that last one," said Jak removing his blindfold as he dropped the earth encasing one of the acolytes, sadly he fell over since he had been struggling to get out. The acolytes bowed and Jak bowed back before heading to the meditation area. Korra had left earlier to the stadium to practice pro bending with Mako and Bolin.
As he sat down he placed a cup of water on the ground along with a small rock. He then took the position and closed his eyes. A few seconds later a small bubble of water floated up from the cup along with the stone. They started moving in a circle above his right palm when a small wind sphere and fireball formed.
Then the four elements began to move in a small circle. He concentrated on making sure the fire didn't come in contact with the air and making sure the water didn't drop on the stone, "Didn't know you could do that all at once," Korra said from behind him. He opened his eyes letting the water fall back into the cup and letting the stone drop into his palm as the air sphere and small fire dispersed.
"How did training go?" he asked turning around seeing the downed look on her face, "That bad huh," he said as she sat down next to him before sighing in annoyance.
"No the training went okay, your parents didn't happen to leave you around thirty thousand Yuon did they?" She asked resting her head on her right hand.
"No not that much, what do you need that much for anyway," he said.
"Apparently we need it to play in the upcoming tournament and Makos already gone looking for a job to pay for it and Bolin wants to make money by getting Pabu to do tricks," said Korra referring to Bolins pet.
"That should be fun," Jak said laughing before looking towards the city, "So now that your pro bending training is over how about we get to some air bending training done?" He asked smiling.
"Sounds great," she said as the two of them got up from the ground and headed toward the area that had the new gates. When night fell the two of them were practicing moving through the gates while Jinora and Ikki made them spin, "You got this Korra," Jinora said as Korra moved easily through the gates as she kept moving her arms around and changing the way she stood. She then made it safely to the other side.
"Hey whose that guy?" Ikki asked as Jak looked towards the stairs to see Mako walking up the stairs in his normal outfit which included a red scarf.
"Don't worry we know him," said Korra looking confused wondering why he was here.
"Wait isn't he the fire bender who was rude to the two of you when you first went to the stadium?" Jinora asked Jak.
"Yeah but he did apologize," he answered before he and Korra walked over to him.
"Is Bolin here," said Mako looking serious.
"Great to see you too and no he isn't here I've been with Jak the entire day since I got back," said Korra.
"I haven't seen him either," Jak said.
Mako sighed before looking down, "Hes been missing all day, I just hope he hasn't gotten himself into trouble again," said Mako.
"Well we could help you find him, we just happen to have the perfect friend for tracking," Korra said smiling and Jak did as well knowing who she was referring to.
"Really that's great," said Mako.
A while later Mako was on the back of Naga with Korra while Jak was on a wind scooter next to them, "Your friend the tracker is a polar bear dog, why am I not surprised," Mako said with a bored look on his face.
"Hey don't be like that, Naga hasn't let me or Korra down yet," Jak said petting Nagas head which made her bark. They then moved to an area in front of a large building where the entire area was lit up.
"This is Bolin usual hang out spot, but I don't see him anywhere," Mako said getting off Naga as they looked around the area. Mako then walked over to one of the kids who was leaning against a light post with his hands in his pockets.
"Hey has Bolin been through here?" Mako asked.
"Maybe he has, my memory's a little fuzzy," the kid said holding out his right hand, "Maybe you can help me clear my memory,".
"Your really kind aren't you," said Mako handing him some money.
"Yeah Bolin was here, he was trying to put on some kind of monkey circus show when some guy showed up in a car, showed him a good bit of Cash and then Bolin took off with him," he said making Mako look surprised.
"The driver did you see who it was?" He asked.
"I'm finding it difficult to remember," the kid said holding out his hand which made Mako sigh before he handed him more money, "Yeah I remember now it was Shady Shin from the triple triad,".
"Triple Triad, that name sounds familiar," Jak said looking at Korra who nodded in agreement.
"Yeah they along with the other gangs have something big about to go down, well I'm afraid that's all I know," the kid said before walking away with a smile on his face.
"So what does this mean?" Korra asked.
"It means there could be a turf war about to go down," said Mako before getting back on Naga and he gave Korra the directions on where to go.
As they were heading there, "So about these triple triad guys, I'm sure me and Jak beat some of them up when we first came to the city," said Korra.
"If their a gang what would Bolin being doing with them in the first place," said Jak while looking forward.
"I'm sure I have a good idea, I just hope we get there," he began to say before Naga jumped back as a small red animal ran past the polar bear dog making it bark at it. The little animal then ran up a light spot while Naga tried to reach it.
"Pabu," said Mako smiling.
"Wait isnt he usually with Bolin" said Jak dispersing the air scooter as Naga tried to reach the small ferret.
"Naga no, this is a friend not a snack," said Korra making Naga sit as the small a ferret touched her nose before jumping to Mako. They then reached their destination which seemed to look like a restaurant.
"Somethings not right, they usually have guards posted out front," said Mako standing next to the doorway making hand signals. Korra and Jak just walked forward before they kicked the doors down. Only to see the chairs and tables tossed around the room.
"Looks like something went down after all," Jak said looking around the room before hearing an engine start at the back of the building. The three of them ran out the back to see a large sato mobile, some motorbikes and men dressed in masks and green goggles. They then saw the back of the vehicle was open, revealing the men tied up inside and one of them was Bolin who noticed them.
"Bolin," said Mako as one of them men closed the doors and another two through green smoke bombs on the ground. Jak sent out a large blast of air dispersing it just in time to see the motorbikes drive off.
"Go will catch up," Korra said looking at her friend who nodded his head before jumping forward and forming an air scooter. He moved quickly down the road seeing the motorbikes, with the Sato Mobile at the front and stared blasting them with fire balls. One of them threw a rope with two balls on it at him, he dodged it by jumping into the air and blasted the bike. The driver lost control as bike fell over sending him sliding across the ground.
The second one pulled the brakes as he watched his comrade fall to the ground, Jak sent him flying off the bike with a blast of air. Jak then noticed that while he was in the air the Sato Mobile with Bolin in it had gotten away. "Alright where did," he began to ask before dodging a jab from the first man that had fallen over.
The second one threw another trap before Jak jumped over it and sent a blast of fire which the man dodged by jumping to the side and running at him. Jak blocked his fist before sending a blast of fire at the second one who tried to strike him while he was occupied.
"Hey two on one isnt fair," said Korra reaching the area with Mako, Naga and Pabu. She jumped off Naga and sent a blast of fire at the enemy who tried to attack Jak. The man jumped out of the way before he began dodging Korras attacks. Another man on a bike drove into the area and before he could aid the others Mako tried to take him down.
Jak blocked another jab from the one he was facing when he realized something, "Their chi blockers," he thought noticing how the new arrival was easily dodging Korra and Makos fire.
After dodging a punch he kicked his opponents leg, as he began to fall he sent him flying away with a blast of air.
"Ah," Korra said getting his attention and he noticed the enemy she was facing was jabbing her at certain points on her side. Jak sent the earth up from under Korra's opponent sending him flying into the air just as his own opponent threw another trap and this time it hits target as it trapped one of the avatars legs.
"Damnit," he said looking annoyed as he noticed the chi blocker running at him when Naga jumped in front of him letting out a loud roar. Making the Chi blocker shake in fear before he began running away with the other two.
Naga then turned around licking Jaks face, "Thanks for the save girl," he said before Mako began untying his ropes.
"Somethings wrong, I cant bend," Korra said looking frustrated as she tried to send out blast of fire from her fists.
"Those were chi blockers, don't worry it will wear off after a while," said Mako after he finished untying Jak.
"They definitely fought like them and knew where to hit too," said Jak looking in the direction they drove off, "They must have been the equalists we heard about when we first came to town," he said looking at Korra.
"Then for now theres only one way to find out where they took Bolin," she said, "Mako don't worry were going to save your brother," she said and Mako just nodded his head before they walked away. A while later they reached the park and were sitting near the fountain.
"We saw an equalist protester here on the day we first got here, so maybe he knows where they took Bolin," said Korra.
"Well its all we have to go on for now," Mako said leaning against a tree with his hands in his pockets. As they waited the three of them sat in front of Naga.
"So how did you know about the triple Triad?" Jak asked.
"I used to work for them," said Mako making Korra look surprised.
"Wait so your actually some kind of criminal," said Korra.
"No of course not, I just ran numbers for them and that was it," said Mako pulling up his scarf, "We were orphaned so I had to work hard and look after myself and my brother, Im gonna do anything I can to get him back,".
"So what happened to your parents?" Korra asked.
"They were killed by a mugger, I was only eight," said Mako looking down.
"Sorry, it must have been hard to go through if it was just the two of you," said Jak looking down.
"How would you know that?" Mako asked looking a little annoyed.
"It because his parents were killed too back when we were kids," Korra said looking annoyed by Makos attitude.
"Wait what," said Mako looking surprised.
"My mom and dad were once part of some kind of group, apparently the group saw them as traitors and hunted them all the way to the southern water tribe," said Jak as he clenched his fists, "My dad died trying to save me and my mom, but the man caught up to us and killed my mother in front fo me," he said before noticing Korra holding his hand.
"I'm sorry I didn't know," said Mako.
"I was lucky that Korras parents took me in after it happened," said Jak smiling at his friend and she smiled back, "So I know how it important it is to protect the people you care about, so were definitely getting Bolin back,".
"Thanks Jak," said Mako holding out his hand ad Jak shook it before they went back to waiting for the Equalist protester.
