Part 7: Amon
"Equality now, equality now," a loud male voice said waking Jak from his sleep. He rubbed his eyes seeing the protester from his and Korras first day in republic city. He was speaking into megaphone while standing on a table with posters of Amon surrounding him.
"That him," said Mako rubbing his own eyes.
"Yeah, Korra," Jak began to say before noticing his fellow avatar was asleep on his shoulder. His face went red before she opened her eyes and then noticed where she was lying.
"Sorry abut that," she said quickly backing away.
"No its fine," said Jak getting up from the ground as the three of them walked over to the stand.
"Oh back again are you, you avatars won't oppress us," he said pointing a finger at them which made Jak sigh.
"Yeah whatever, listen our friend was taken by some Chi blockers and we want to know where he was taken," he said while the man just looked away while holding his megaphone.
"How would I know and you cant get me to say anything," he said smirking.
"You sure about that," Korra said stepping forward and pushing the earth up from another table sending it flying into the air along with the posters that were on it. The protester fell on his back while Jak grabbed one of the posters from the air.
"Come tonight at nine o'clock to see the great revelation, whats this great revelation their talking about," Jak asked the protester as he picked up the fallen posters.
"No one knows what it is and its going to be revealed tonight," he said before smiling, "But if your friends a bender then he's in real trouble," he said before Korra grabbed him by the front of his jacket and held him up in the air.
"Just tell us where this great revelation is happening," she said starting to look annoyed.
"There maybe two of you avatars these days, but the benders time in this city will soon come to an end," the protester said before they heard a whistle nearby.
"Hey what are you doing over there," the park security officer said.
"Help the avatars are oppressing us," the protester said before Korra dropped him and called Naga over while Jak formed an air scooter. Mako picked up more of the posters before jumping onto Naga with Korra as they left the park.
They then stood near one of the stops for the tram, "How is anyone suppose to see this great revelation if they don't know where it is," Korra said looking annoyed as she sat back on the bench.
"It's probably a secret and they didn't just want anyone showing up," said Jak sitting on the bench as he looked at one of the posters. He then looked confused when he turned it over to see lines and marks of green on the back.
"You noticed it too," said Mako showing the back of another poster that had a different image, but still had lines and parts of green on it.
"Guess we know how they're suppose to find their way there," said Jak as he handed Mako a poster and he watched as he picked up two more of them before holding them up against the map of the city on the wall.
"There it is," Mako said before holding the put together map over the right area.
As night fell the three of them reached an old factory area. Korra and Mako were dressed in long coats and hats while Jak was dressed in usual outfit, "How are you going to get in?" Korra asked looking confused.
"I'm going to sneak in, maybe I can find Bolin before this great revelation thing goes down," said Jak before using his air bending to reach the top of a nearby building. He watched as Korra and Mako walked up to the front door where a man was standing guard. They handed him one of the posters and then he let them walk in. Jak jumped to the rooftop of the factory looking for a way in.
He found an open window on the side of the building and jumped through. He was now in a small room with machines atttached to the walls. He then heard a voice speak up from the entrance to the room and walked over to it seeing he was on the second floor. Below him was a crowd of non benders standing in front of a stage that lit up as the middle part opened up.
"Ladies and gentlemen, you know him as your hero and savior, Amon," a voice said over a speaker as a lift came up revealing four chi blockers like the ones he, Mako and Korra went up against last night. There was a man standing in the middle of them with batons strapped to his back. But what got Jak's attention was the man standing in front of them all, he was dressed in grey with a hood over his head and mask that had a red circle in the middle of his forehead.
"So that's Amon," he thought recognizing the equalist leader from the poster. He then watched as Amon walked up to the stage grabbing the microphone and began telling his story of how a fire bender had killed his family and burned his face that resulted in him wearing the mask. He also blamed the benders for every single war.
"I have also heard that the avatars have come to Republic city, well even though there are two of them now they both continue to fail," he said as the crowd booed. Showing their annoyance to the avatars.
"You all came here seeking to find out what my revelation is, well your about to see," he said pointing to his right as chi blockers lead four people onto the stage and had them kneel on the ground. Bolin being the last one to the right.
"Ever since the beginning of time, the spirits have been the guardians of this world," he said stretching his arm forward, "Well those same spirits have spoken to be and granted me an extraordinary power, to take away a persons bending,".
"Permanently," he said clenching his fist. Jak looked shocked as he leaned against the wall.
"That's impossible, the only one who's had that ability was the avatar," said Jak remembering when he read about how avatar Aang took away fire Lord Ozais bending at the end of the hundred year war.
His attention was brought back to the stage as Amon introduced one of the members of the triple threat triad, lighting bolt Zolt. One of the chi blockers untied his ropes before he began fighting Amon who easily dodged his attacks even when Zolt fired lighting at him. But Amon turned him around by grabbing the back of his neck and placing his thumb on Zolts forehead who looked shocked as he was still shooting lighting. Then Zolts bending stopped before Amon let him fall to the ground. He tried to blast out fire but nothing came out, making him look surprised.
"The time of bender oppression is over," Amon said making the crowd cheer while Jak looked annoyed.
"How am I suppose to get him out of there now," Jak thought before spotting Korra move through the left side of the crowd towards one of the rooms on the first floor. Making sure everyone was paying attention to Amon on stage, he jumped down to the ground and ran into the room where he found Korra facing the big guard from the front door.
"What are you doing back here?" He asked.
"Uh just looking for my friend and oh there he is," said Korra pointing behind the guard before Jak tripped him by kicking his legs. Before the guard could shout Korra punched him across the face knocking him out.
"Well that could have gone better, did you bring your bottle with you," she asked as Jak pulled his water pouch from behind his back.
"You got a plan?" He asked taking off the cap as water began to flow out of it.
"Yep, were going to use the steam as a distraction," Korra said before taking a bit off the water for herself and they quickly cut through the machinery, making steam shoot out of them. Jak used his air bending to push the steam into the main area before the two of them ran out of the room.
"Makos getting Bolin, do you remember the way you came in," said Korra.
"Yeah second floor," Jak said putting an arm around her waist as he pushed them up to the second floor and they headed to the rooftop. When they reached the back of the building they saw Mako and Bolin fighting the man who was on the stage with Amon. But now his Batons were electrified.
"The time of you benders is over," he said standing over Mako after shocking him while Bolin lied on the ground behind him.
"Not happening," said Jak jumping down and blasting fire at the mans feet. The man jumped back as he began dodging Jaks fire blasts.
"Ahh," said Jak kicking his right leg forward sending a blast of air which the man blocked.
"Nice try," he said lowering his batons before he was sent flying by a piece of earth from Korra.
"Were not failing anyone, Naga," she said looking towards past the factory as the polar bear dog ran up to them. Korra and Mako got on Nagas back while Naga picked up Bolin by biting into the back of his shirt.
"I want to be on your back too," Bolin said as Naga began to run. Jak then noticed Chi blockers running out the back of the building and he brought both of his arms up, stopping them with an earth wall. He then formed an air scooter and took off after the others. After dropping Mako and Bolin back at the stadium the two of them returned to air temple island where they found Tenzin talking to members of the white lotus. He then noticed them walking over.
"Thank goodness, I was about sent out a search party for you two, are you alright?" He asked. Korra shook her head while crossing her arms.
"Were you able to find your friend?" Tenzin asked looking at Jak who had a serious look on his face.
"Yeah he's safe now, but we found out something worse," he said.
"We went ton an equalist rally and we saw Amon, Tenzin he has the power to take away a persons bending permanently," Korra said making him look surprised.
"But that's impossible, the only one to be known to have that power was the avatar," said Tenzin.
"I thought that too, but I saw it happen," said Jak looking towards the city.
"You believe us right?" Korra asked looking worried.
"Yes I believe you," Tenzin answered looking serious before looking towards the city, "But I'm afraid as of now, no bender in Republic city is safe,".
