Part 10: Finals attacked
In the sky above air temple island Jak flew around on his glider before landing in the courtyard with Jinora landing after him, "You really learned this fast," Jinora said looking impressed as Ikki and Milo landed behind them.
"No fair we were flying longer before you were," said Ikki looking annoyed as she pointed a finger at Jak who laughed.
"That's because I have great focus after meditating for so long, don't worry you'll get better," he said smiling as they headed back to the main building.
"Hey Jak," Jinora said while her brother and sister ran ahead of them, "Why haven't you been going to any of the pro bending matches, the finals are tonight," she said looking worried.
"I just thought I would focus on my training for now," Jak said without looking at her before she asked, "Did something happen between you and Korra?".
"No not like," he said before over hearing the radio at the white lotus outpost, "Good day republic city, I hope you enjoyed last nights pro bending match because it was the last," the voice of Amon said.
Jak nodded for Jinora to head inside as he walked over to white lotus members who were listening closely, "I'm a hereby ordering the council to close down the arena, if this isn't done there will be consequences," the voice then cut off as Jak quickly ran to the edge of the island and took off towards city hall.
"If Korra overheard that shes probably on her way there now," he thought before reaching the area in front of the large building where Naga barked at him from below.
He landed on the ground and petted the polar bear dog, "Looks like both avatars are now here," Lin said walking over as Jak headed towards the entrance.
"Here to share you thoughts on Amons threat?" Jak asked.
"I hope your not going to agree that they should shut down the arena," Lin said looking serious.
"No, I'm sure Korra thinks the same and that's why shes here," Jak answered as they reached the main room where Korra, Mako and Bolin were standing in front of the table where, Tenzin, Tarlok and the other council members.
"The decision is final, motion carried," Tarlok said raising a gavel before a blast of air sent it flying to the floor.
"Huh I was going to do it myself," said Lin as the two of them walked in, "I suspect this cut and run thing from Tenzin but from the rest of you, cmon," she said.
"Your giving Amon exactly what he wants, if you give into his demands then we've already lost," said Jak stepping forward, "Pro bending just doesn't matter to the benders, it matters to non benders to,".
"Its like I said, its where the two groups together in peace," said Mako nodding in agreement with Jak.
"Well avatar Jak how do you hope we keep the benders at the game safe from Amon and his equalists," said Tarlok.
"I can answer that, ill have security all around the entry points, the ground and the sky and our armor is perfect for fighting chi blockers," said Lin looking serious, "And I'm sure the benders would be happy if they knew one of the avatars was looking out for them," she said looking at Jak who nodded in agreement.
"Well my decision has changed, what about the rest of you," said Tarlok looking at the other council members who all raised their hands accept for Tenzin who sighed, "There we have it, the arena stays open,".
"Thanks for helping us Jak," said Bolin.
"No problem Bolin, guess I could congratulate you for making it to the finals," Jak said smiling.
"Yeah why werent you at the other games?" Mako asked looking confused.
"I wanted to do some more training," Jak said before looking over at Korra who had a worried look on her face, "I should go, good luck," he said about to turn around when.
"Hang on a second," Tenzin said walking forward, "I want to have a word with you and Lin before you go," he said before leading them out of the room and into a hallway near the main room.
"What were you thinking, do you realize how dangerous Amon and his equalists are," said Tenzin.
"I don't need you looking after me, I can take care of myself, me and my officers can handle the security," Lin said crossing her arms.
"Then I hope you don't mind that I will be coming along, not because of you but for Jak and Korra," said Tenzin looking at Jak who was leaning against the wall holding his staff in his right hand.
"Alright then, guess it will be just like old times, will be checking the stadium before the match," she said looking at Jak who nodded his head and then looked surprised at Korra who was standing behind Tenzin.
"Whats her problem with us, did she have some kind of problem with Aang," said Korra.
"No not at all, in fact her and my father got along well, I'm afraid her problems are with me," said Tenzin calmly while Korra smirked.
"Oh I see now, you two were a couple, Pema stole you from Beifong, "said Korra making Tenzin look surprised.
"What, who did you hear that from?" He asked.
"Oh your wife," said Korra.
"Ill have talk to her, listen the point is Pema didn't steal me away from her, the truth is that Lin and I had been growing apart, oh why am I telling you this," Tenzin said looking annoyed, "Well I should be going, ill see the two of you this evening,".
"Bye Tenzin," said Jak as he and Korra stood in silence.
"So you were training, hows your gliding going," said Korra pointing at his staff.
"It took some time but I got use to it," said Jak.
"Well hopefully ill have your luck with it when I start," Korra said as the two of them laughed before stopping, "Is there any other reason why you haven't been showing up to the games, it would have been to nice to have you there,".
"Yeah, well ill be there for the finals tonight," said Jak as he began to walk away.
"Fine then, see you there," said Korra looking annoyed before walking ahead of him and then headed to the exit. Jak sighed before heading out himself and taking off on his glider. That night at the stadium Jak was walking around the seats as the announcer brought in the teams.
The fire ferrets were brought on first and Bolin had Pabu do a show where he jumped through an earth disc and then the wolf bats were brought on stage. They put on a show for their entrance by wearing masks and howling as fireworks went off around the stadium. When Jak was walking over to Tenzin and Lin he noticed Bolin being sent back with a long blast of fire from the wolf bats fire bender.
"Wait that's not right," Jak thought as Bolin was knocked off the arena leaving only Mako and Korra as they were almost sent flying off the same way as Bolin. But Korra had grabbed onto the ledge and held onto Mako before throwing him back onto the arena.
"Did you see anything," Lin said bringing him out of his thoughts as he reached her and Tenzin.
"Other then the wolf bats cheating no, what's the ref doing," said Jak looking annoyed as he leaned against the railing as the next round started. But the round ended up in a tie breaker where Korra went up against the wolf bats water bender.
He smiled when he saw her knock him out of the ring with a water blast to his chin, "Yes well done," said Tenzin cheering.
"Im going to do another check," said Jak as he began to walk around the seating area again as the match continued. But his focus was then brought back to the arena when he saw rocks mixed in the water benders water which pushed all Mako and Bolin off the arena. He then noticed Korra was stuck and was sent flying out of the arena as well.
The announcer then called the wolf bats victory making Jak look annoyed. As he turned around he saw a man getting up from where he was sitting, he was wearing a mask over his mouth and had a glove that was glowing blue in the middle. Jak pushed the arm out of the way as the glove had electricity surrounding it.
Jak sent the man flying with a blast of fire making the people sitting down look surprised as they got up from their seats, "Korra," Jak thought jumping over the railing and heading to the floor under the arena.
He then saw the man who was wielding electric batons, he was about to stick them in the water where Mako, Bolin and Korra were still in. Jak sent him flying with with a blast of air and he fell into the water.
"Comes on," said Jak walking over to the edge where Korra grabbed his hand as he pulled her out of the water.
"Whats going on?" Mako asked climbing out of the water.
"Equalists are attacking," Jak said as they heard the people above.
"What do we do," Bolin said looking worried.
"I'm going to stop them," said Jak rushing to the edge when Korra grabbed his shoulder.
"Not alone," she said before they jumped into the water and formed a water tornado. When they reached the top of the arena they found Amon about to take away the bending from the wolf bats water bender.
Jak jumped from his water tornado and sent a ball of fire in front of Amon making him jump back. Korra landed behind Jak and sent one of the equalists flying into the water below with a blast of water.
"Thank you for saving me," the wolf bats water bender said looking relieved.
"Yeah just stay back," Korra said looking serious as she and Jak stood in front of Amon and the equalists surrounding him.
"You surprised me during our first encounter avatar, I will not make that mistake again," said Amon running forward and tried to jab at Jak who blocked his fist and sent a ball of fire at his chest pushing him back.
One of the equalists tried to shock Jak with a glove but Jak noticed him stepping onto an earth disc. Jak kicked his right leg forward sending the disc up and tripping the equalist up and then sent the disc flying at Amon who flipped in the air.
Jak put his staff through the strap for his water bottle before blocking Amons right arm with his left, "You cant win, my revolution has grown stronger, now anyone can have the power of a chi blocker," he said.
"Is that what those gloves are for," said Jak before jumping back and sending a whip of water at Amon who jumped out of the way as another Equalist tried to hit Jak with a glove. Jak quickly took back out his staff and sent it down. Blasting out air that sent the equalist flying back and off the arena.
Then the ceiling above him shattered and Jak looked to seen air ship flying above the stadium. Then ropes lowered from it revealing round platforms to stand on and Amon jumped onto one of them.
"This isn't over, once Republic city has fallen the world will follow," he said looking at Jak. Jak looked annoyed before the platform began to go back up to the air ship.
"Jak," Korra called. He nodded at her before taking out his glider and he wrapped an arm around her waist before jumping into the air. Korra blasted them up with fire as they passed the ceiling. Korra kicked one of the equalist off a platform before jumping onto it. Jak landed back on the roof fighting the equalist Korra had sent falling.
Jak dodged the glove before blasting the equalist with fire, sending him flying back.
"Look out," said Lin from behind him as she used her hooks to reach the roof. The man wielding the electric batons slashed at Jak who jumped out of the way.
"You might want to catch her," he said pointing up. Jak looked up seeing an equalist had tried to hit Korra with a glove after she shot fire up at the air ship, but she dodged and ended up losing her balance. She then fell back into the stadium
"Korra," Jak said jumping after her and he caught her before Lin shot one of her hooks towards him. Jak caught it as Lin shot another one her hooks into the ceiling.
"Thanks," said Korra before there was a loud explosion below them and it came from the pro bending arena. Once everyone had been cleared out Jak and Korra walked over to Tenzin, Mako and Bolin.
"Are yo two okay?" Mako asked.
"Yeah were fine," said Korra before Bolin hugged her and Jak.
"I'm so glad were all okay," he said happily while Jak smiled.
"We played right into Amons hand," said Lin looking annoyed.
"Luckily Jak acted just in time before Amon could take away the wolf bats bending," said Tenzin, "But I'm afraid things just got more dangerous, Republic city is now at war," he said as they all looked at the destruction the equalists had done to the pro bending arena.
