Part 11: Investigating
Jak stood outside the cabbage Corp main building as the police lead the boss in charge outside. Lin stood in front of the reporters as she explained that they had found evidence relating cabbage corp to the equalists which meant they would be shutting it down.
"Didn't realize you would be here," said Lin as Jak walked by the reporters.
"I was flying around when I saw the large crowd here, how bad is their situation," said Jak as the two of them walked away from the building.
"From what we've seen it's enough to shut down the place for good, me and Tenzin are interviewing Hiroshi Sato later on along with the water bender from the wolf bats," said Lin looking annoyed.
Jak knew what she must have been feeling, ever since the pro bending finals Tarlok had been saying that Lin didn't do a good enough job back at the stadium and was saying the police needed new leadership, "The stadium may have gotten damaged but at least Amon didn't take away anyone's bending," he said.
"Well what we need to do now is find Amon," said Lin before entering the sato mobile and heading back to the police station with Jak following on his glider. When he reached the station he found Korra in the waiting area.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" Korra asked.
"Decided to find out what's going on, apparently Lin found evidence connecting cabbage corp to the equalists," said Jak looking serious.
"You think they're behind it," said Korra.
"I don't know, but does gloves they used were advanced," said Jak remembering the eclectic gloves from the battle, "So how did the offer work out?" He asked referring to Mako and Bolin. Since the events at the stadium it had been closed down so Mako and Bolin had to find a new place to live. Korra had gone to offer them to stay at air temple island.
"Asami actually offered them to stay at her place so they're going there, they invited us over both over since they think we could also use some time to relax," she said smiling when someone spoke up behind her.
"Hey Korra," he said. The two avatars looked to see the water bender from the wolf bats sitting on one of the benches.
"Tato, what are you doing here?" Korra asked.
"Im just here to tell what happened, thanks for saving me by the way avatar," Tato said looking over at Jak.
"Its Jak and don't worry about it," he said before sitting on the bench as well.
"Well still thanks, I don't know what I would have done if Amon had taken away my bending," Tato said before Lin walked into the room with Tenzin and Hiroshi Sato.
"That will be all for now, please call us if you remember anything else," Lin said.
"I will, thank you," Hiroshi said before walking away while Lin called over Tato for his interview.
"Take care avatars," said Tato waving at Jak and Korra before walking away. Jak and Korra headed outside where Naga ran up to Jak licking his face.
"Hey girl," said Jak rubbing her head.
"You want to steer this time," said Korra.
"Well alright then, that okay Naga?" Jak asked as the polar bear dog barked before Jak got on first and Korra got on second before Naga took off towards Asami's home.
Jak felt his face go warm when he felt Korra's arms around his waist, "Sorry not use to riding at the back," she said laughing.
"No its alright, how did Mako and Bolin feel about having to leave the stadium?" Jak asked focusing his attention on the road.
"They were down at first but Bolin was really excited they get to live in a big mansion," Korra said smiling, "I messed this," she said making him look confused.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"You and me hanging out together when were not training, Naga too of course," she said and Jak smiled.
"Well we've been busy, between learning how to air bend, fighting the equalists and you pro bending," said Jak looking down.
"I knew you were just there for security, but I'm really glad you showed up for the finals," Korra said as Jak felt her head resting against his back. The rest of the ride was silent as they reached the large building that was Asami's home. When they reached the front door a butler greeted them before leading them to the houses pool.
"Avatars Korra and Jak have arrived," the butler said.
"Hey were glad you guys could make it," said Mako from where he was sitting in the pool next to Asami.
"Yeah sure, hey Asami how was your dad okay with your boyfriend staying over?" Jak asked.
"Well I didn't get permission from him at first, but getting forgiven is easier then asking for person," said Asami before putting a hand on Makos shoulder, "Plus he trusts Mako," he said.
"Yeah and this place is great, check this out," said Bolin as he asked the butler to dry him and Pabu before he jumped back into the water making the butler look annoyed before he left the room. After Mako, Bolin and Asami were finished in the pool Asami brought them to track where new sato mobiles were being tested.
"Cool right," said Asami smiling at the amazed look on Korra's face.
"Yeah it is," said Korra before looking ay Jak.
"They are fast but I'm good with flying," he said holding up his staff.
"Well would either of you want to get behind the wheel," said Asami.
"Really?" Korra asked looking excited at the idea before Asami lead her to the tracks and they raced another sato mobile in a two seater. After finishing the race they returned back to the house with Bolin having to use the bathroom.
"Is there another room I could use?" Korra asked. Asami gave her the directions and after a few minutes passed before Jak decided to go check on her.
When he turned at a hallway he found Korra crouched next to a door, Korra heard him and shushed him before he reached the door and decided to listen.
"Yes with Cabbage corp taken care of we now have plenty of time to get things done, everything will soon be ready," he said. Jak and korra quickly looked at each other surprised before quickly walking away. When they reached the stairs they ran to the exit.
"Wait you two are leaving," Asami said.
"Uh yeah we got something important to do," said Korra looking at Jak.
"Yeah we needed to get some training done before it gets to late," he said before they ran out the front door in a hurry and got on Naga quickly. At night they met up with Tenzin and Lin and told them what they overheard.
"So Hiroshi's working with the equalists, no this can't be right," said Tenzin shaking his head.
"But we knew what we heard, shouldn't we look into future industries because of it?" Jak asked looking at Lin.
"He's right, plus we do know Sato has the motive for it," Lin answered looking serious making the two avatars look confused.
"What kind of motive?" Korra asked looking at Tenzin who had a sad look on his face.
"Twelve years ago members of a gang attacked Hiroshis home, his wife was killed during the incident," said Tenzin.
"That's awful," said Korra looking over at Jak who had a sad look on his own face.
"We still need to investigate though," he said looking at Lin who had a serious look on her face.
The next morning they went back to the Sato mansion, this time Tenzin and Lin came with them. When they were walking up the stairs they walked past Mako and Asami.
"Whats going on?" Asami asked looking confused.
"Don't worry, were just here to ask some more questions," said Korra.
"What, but they already asked him back at the station," said Mako looking confused.
"Something new came up, this shouldn't take us long," said Jak before heading up the stairs with Korra following him as they headed to Hiroshi's office.
"Were just here to ask a couple more questions and that will be all," Lin explained to Hiroshi who was sitting behind his desk.
"Well of course, I'm willing to help in anyway I can," said Hiroshi.
"We overheard you yesterday, now that cabbage corp is taken care of you have nothing stopping you," Jak said looking serious.
"You also said something was almost finished," said Korra.
"Oh I understand now, this just a big misunderstanding from the avatars imagination, surely my company would benefit without cabbage corp to rival it and Iam preparing to launch a new line of sato mobiles," Hiroshi said smiling while Korra and Jak looked annoyed by his attitude.
"Well if you have nothing to hide I'm sure you won't mind if we search your factories?" Lin asked.
"Of course," Hiroshi said sitting back while Jak, Korra, Tenzin and Lin left to start their search.
As the day went by they searched different future industries factories with the help from other officers. But they found nothing that would connect future industries to the equalists in any of them. After searching another building Korra and Jak walked out as they headed over to Lin and Tenzin, but then a man walked by Korra.
Jak then turned around when he noticed Korra wasn't walking next to him, "What is it?" He asked as she opened a note.
"It's a message, its telling us where to go if we want to learn the truth," she said after reading the note. They told Tenzin and Lin about the note, when the time came for the meeting only four of them went.
They found the man hiding behind a pillar dressed in a coat and hat, "Are you the won who wrote the note?" Korra asked.
"Yeah, listen Hiroshis working with the equalists," the man said holding up his coat.
"I knew it," Korra said looking annoyed.
"I joined up with the equalists at first because I thought Amon could really make a difference, but now things have changed I don't want a thing do with this war," he said.
"And from what ive heard they've been working on a new weapon, something big," he said.
"We searched the factories and there was nothing in them," said Jak.
"That's because theres another factory, underneath the Sato mansion," he said making the group look surprised.
