Chapter Fifteen

Luke and Lorelai knew it was going to take more than a few deep words to fix their broken relationship but they knew it was a start, at that moment Emily and Richard walked in.

"They have found you a much better room" Emily spoke but considering her natural voice was quite loud April started to stir.

"Go back to sleep honey," Lorelai told her as she looked at her mum with a glare.

"What?" Emily asked her

"She's trying to sleep, can't you be a little less loud?," Lorelai asked her

"This is my natural voice Lorelai" Emily replied as April stretched her arms and stood up, not used to Emily Gilmore's booming voice and knowing she wouldn't be able to sleep again.

"Hey cutie," Lorelai said as she appeared at the foot of her bed "Sorry about my mum, her indoor voice is naturally loud," Lorelai told her. April smiled blinking at her with tired eyes.

"LORELAI" Emily shouted as Rory kept sleeping used to the Gilmore clan and their loud conversations.

"Welcome to the crazy clan," Luke told her. April giggled and turned towards her father to say something when suddenly the door burst open and two police officers, different from the one who had questioned Lorelai.

"Luke Danes?" one of the men said looking at the man in a cap. Luke shifted his eyes confused.

"Yes?" he asked wondering if they wanted a statement from him as well.

"You are under arrest for the assault and rape of Lorelai Hayden," one of the men said grabbing the man's arms before he had a chance to react "You do not need to say anything, but anything you do say you can later reply on in court as evidence" the man went on grabbing the metal handcuffs.

"What? Get off, it wasn't me!" Luke said confused about what on earth was happening and why he was been blamed for this.

Rory shot awake, April burst into tears, Emily and Richard stared not knowing what else to do.

"NO," Lorelai said jumping out the bed "What you doing, I told you who it was in my statement, Christopher Hayden" Lorelai shouted at them wondering why they were blaming Luke.

"Our investigation says otherwise," one of the men said as he finally managed to close the handcuffs.

"But the evidence I told her there was evidence, I hid it behind the wardrobe," Lorelai said wiping stray tears

"We searched and found nothing and Christopher Hayden has altered us you haven't stayed there in days," one of the men said. "Let us investigate if we are wrong we will find the truth," the other said as they turned Luke and started leading him out.

"DAD" April shouted still crying. Rory hugged her crying herself. Lorelai lugged forward to go after them but fell to the floor, still injured and not healed, she couldn't stand for too long yet. Richard helped her up and led her back to the bed, with a lot of resistance from his daughter.

"NO, I NEED TO GO AFTER LUKE, THEY HAVE THE WRONG PERSON" Lorelai shouted in tears unable to believe what was happening.

"You are in no state to go anywhere," Richard told her sternly.

"BUT HE'S INNOCENT, Christopher found the evidence he hid it, it was him! why don't they believe me!" Lorelai replied.

"I believe you, mum!" Rory said wiping her eyes "Luke is too gentle, annoyingly so most of the time" Rory replied

"It will be alright Lorelai if he is innocent they will realise that" Emily replied but Lorelai could see the look in her eyes and knew she didn't believe he was.

Luke sat in a questioning room, wondering why he was been blamed when someone walked in to start to tell him why.

"We have spoken to the residences of Star's Hollow, they haven't seen or heard from Lorelai Hayden in days, Christopher Hayden has altered us she has been staying with you," the man said

"Yes so?" Luke replied annoyed, he wasn't angry at the residents of Stars Hollow, they had stated they hadn't seen her which wasn't a lie, they had no idea they were dropping him in it.

"Who else could it have been?" She has been locked up in that room with only you for days" the man said. Luke gulped knowing him trying to help had sent him into a very tight corner.

"She was afraid, she didn't want to leave" Luke replied honestly "She was already injured when she came to mine" Luke replied with a sigh.

"We found evidence of bloodstains in your flat, why did you not take her straight to the hospital when you realised she was bleeding?" the man now asked. Luke shook his head in a daze as he realised how it sounded like he had known she was injured but had avoided getting her medical help as he was guilty.

"I thought it was just her period, that's what she told me!" Luke replied wondering what stains they had found and where.

"We also have statements saying you and Mrs Hayden, yes we have realised she is not your wife, were engaged and it ended very badly, she went to someone else the night you broke up, that must have made you angry," the man said

"It did, but I soon got over it" Luke replied

"And with your record where you damaged the car of your ex-wife's lover, it isn't looking too good, you clearly have a violent streak" the man went on.

"I love Lorelai, I always have and always will, I was just helping her as she needed a friend, I didn't do anything!" Luke replied even as he spoke knowing he sounded silly, he knew unless fresh evidence was found, he would go down for it. He sounded guilty even to himself.

"Mum...it's getting late," Rory said wondering if she wanted them to stay.

"I know, just go home for tonight," Lorelai told her as she stroked April's hair. She had been inconsolable when Luke was taken so Lorelai, much like she did with Rory had told her to lay next to her because no-one else had been able to calm her down.

"We can stay" Rory replied

"I just want some time alone honey" Lorelai replied feeling rotten knowing Luke was currently sleeping in a cell somewhere whilst Christopher strolled around free.

"But April only wants you right now" Rory replied. Somehow Lorelai had calmed her in a way no-one else had been able to do so, must be something to do with the way she had done it with Rory for so long.

"Why don't we leave the girls here? That way you are not alone but you are not crowded" Emily suggested, seeing her daughter was in need of space. Lorelai nodded.

"Thank you, I am sorry" Lorelai replied feeling bad for sending them away.

"Sleep tight Lorelai we will return in the morning" Richard replied as they left.

April had fallen asleep next to Lorelai and the woman monitored for Rory to get on the other side which she obeyed. It was a bit of a squeeze with the three of them, now that two were adults but Lorelai smiled as she held both girls, dreaming of more nights like this and how much Luke would love to see Lorelai cuddling their girls like this as they slept if he was released, which he would be, Lorelai had a plan.
