Four months had passed. Alexandria's casts were off. Even though the bones were better her legs were still very sore. She'd been at the rehabilitation hospital for a week She knew she had to do her physical therapy to get better but she hated it. It hurt. Today was her thirty-fourth birthday. It was early in the morning. A nurse had helped Alexandria get a shower. She was in her wheelchair waiting to go to physical therapy. Her cell phone rang.

"Hello?" She said.

"Happy birthday." Ann said.

"Thank you."

"Did mom and dad already call you?"

"Yeah."

"Have you got any plans?"

"Just to sit here." "At least I'll be with John."

"What time is coming?"

"Not until sometime in the evening." "He said he has a few things to take care of." "I think he has a surprise for me."

"Do you have any idea what it is?"

"Not a clue." "Knowing him he'll go all out since we can't have a normal celebration."

The nurse came in. "It's time for therapy." She said.

"I have to go."

"Ok." Ann said. "I love you."

"I love you too."

"Bye."

"Bye."

Alexandria spent most of the day in therapy. She had to go through a lot of exercises. It was around seven in the evening. Alexandria was in her room. John came through the door with a sheet cake.

"Hi." She said happily.

"Hi." "Happy birthday." He put the cake down and kissed her.

"Thank you." "You didn't have to do that."

"Sure I did." "How did therapy go?"

"Painful, I'm sore."

"Take a pain pill."

"I did earlier." "I wanted to wait to take the next one." "You know how sleepy they make me."

They both had a piece of cake.

"I got you a present." "It's what took me so long to get here." "I forgot that I didn't have it with me." "It was in Tampa."

"So you flew all the way to Tampa and back to San Diego just so you could get my birthday present?"

"Yep."

"No present is that important."

"This one is." He took the ring box out of his pocket and got down on one knee. He opened the box. "See?"

"John." She said smiling.

"Alexandria because of you, I was able to love again." "The thought of losing to scared to me death." "It made me even more sure about this." "Alexandria will you marry me?"

"Yes." She said happily. He put the ring on her finger. They kissed.

"I love you."

"I love you too." "To bad my legs are so sore." "I want to have sex."

"I do to but there'll be plenty of time for that when you're better." "Come on, take a pain pill and lay down." "I'll lay with you."

"Ok." She took a pain pill. John helped to bed.

"Aren't you glad you don't have to lay in a hospital bed anymore?" John asked laying next to her.

"Yes." "I'm so happy." "I can't wait to marry you." "I love you."

"I love you too." They kissed.
