Chapter One: Presentation of Prince Chomper
It was a dark yet quiet morning in the Great Valley and the lands that made up the rest of the kingdom. Though there were a few jungle sounds in the grass, trees, rocks and air, all else was quiet. Then suddenly, a loud and majestic roar rings out over the darkened land. A few moments later, on the eastern horizon, the Bright Circle started to rise as ancient spirits started to sing…

A lone Threehorn raised its head from its morning grazing of tall grass as it heard the roar calling to every dinosaur. A herd of Dome Heads lifted their heads as well and began to move towards the call. A small group Fuzzy Faces came to the top of a hill while standing on their back legs. On another hill, a lone Horned Sharptooth climbed to the top and looked to the source of the call.

Two Fliers walked next to a marshy river as they heard the call. A third one quickly joined them. Then opening their large wings, they took off into the sky to heed the call.

A large flock of fliers flew in front of a large waterfall as they made their way to the source of the call. A herd of large Longnecks made their way past the mountains that burned. The flock of fliers grew in numbers as they made their way.

In a foggy plain, a herd of Big Mouth Swimmers walked through the mist as they all headed in the same direction.

The Bright Circle climbed higher into the sky as the herds continued on. And on a hill that hadn't been fully touched by the Bright Circle, two Flat-head Longnecks climbed up the hill, a mother and daughter. When the young Longneck walked into the sunlight, it hurt her eyes for a second. But she blinked it away as she stepped further into the light. Both Longnecks looked to the horizon and saw the other dinosaurs making their way towards the source of the roar. They broke into a run to join with the rest of them.
Etta:From the day we arrive
On the planet
And, blinking, step into the sun
There's more to see
Than can ever be seen
More to do
Than can ever be done
As a herd of black and white striped Big Mouth Swimmers waded through made their way under a tree, a few small insects carried leaves along a branch. A flock of Fast Runners ran by as a herd of Bridge Nosed Longnecks came stomping close.
Etta: There's far too much
To take in here
More to find
Than can ever be found
A straggling Fast Runner came running through the herd of Longneck to catch up to the rest of its friends. It was quick enough to get out of the way to avoid being crushed underfoot. The Bright Circle shone brightly overhead a river as a couple of Thumb Spikes bounded across its waters.
Etta: But the sun rolling high
Through the sapphire sky
Keeps great and small
On the endless round
Some of the fliers flew down onto the backs of much bigger dinosaurs as they some of them came out of the river. The flocks, herds and packs of all the dinosaurs soon convened towards their destination; a large rock structure that stood tall and had a ledge that jutted out from the base of the formation. Their coming to Fang Rock was by no mere chance, for their king had summoned them for a joyous occasion.
Etta: It's the Circle of Life
And it moves us all
A lone orange and brown flier, flew over the incoming dinosaur's heads as he flew towards a figure that stood at the edge of the ledge. King Rex stood gazing at the arriving dinosaurs as he looked about them. He ruled the Big Biter pack and the kingdom with justice and wisdom. And inside he was truly happy for this day. The flier, Pterano the majordomo of King Rex, lands before his king and gives him a bow of respect. Then he glanced up to King Rex with a smile. Rex looked down to him with a serious face, but then a smile forms as he nods his head to him.
Etta: Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
They both looked down to the gathering crowd of dinosaurs as a figure passed through. An old aged Rainbow face carrying a staff with fruits tied to the end of it made his way through the crowd as they bowed to him in respect. The shaman of the Great Valley, the Rainbow Face named Rai, nodded to them as he passed by them. He had wisdom in his eyes and love in his heart from years of service.
Etta: Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
Rex looked down to his friend with a smile as Rai soon reached the stone steps of the rock formation. He moves down to meet the shaman as the Rainbow Face continues to climb. When Rai reached the spot where Rex waited for him, both friends smiled to each other. The two friends embraced each other before looking behind the king.
Etta: In the Circle
The Circle of Life
They started to make their way over to where the rest of the Big Biter pack watched. Rex walked over to where his mate, Eda, was laying and watching over their child between her arms. The young sharptooth was lying on its side with its face pressed up against her chest. Rex came closer to her and pressed his head against hers in a loving manner, and she returned it fully. She lowered her head and gently licked the top of the young one's. The hatchling, named Chomper, turned his head and looked to his surroundings. He had a purple scale shading over his body, dark brown along his back, but a more whitish purple along his chin to his underbelly. Rai looked down at the infant with a joyous smile before putting his staff into his other hand and started to wave it ceremoniously in front of child's face. Chomper watched it swinging back and forth before trying to use one of his hands to bat at it. Rai untied a piece of fruit from the staff and held it over his head. Then with both of his clawed hands he broke the piece of fruit into two. Setting one half of the pieces down, he held onto the other half to use. Dipping his left thumb into the juice, he concentrated as he moved his appendage over Chomper's head and painted a crown of sorts on his forehead. Then with his now free hand, Rai grabbed a fist full of dust and sprinkled it over Chomper's head. The falling dust caused little Chomper to adorably sneeze. Rex and Eda pressed their heads together lovingly as they looked down to their son.
Then with both hands, Rai picked Chomper from his mother's arms. Rai then placed the young prince on his shoulder and looked to the parents with a smile and they back at him with one of their own. With a motion of his head, Rai gestured for them to follow before walking back to the ledge. Eda pushed herself off the ground and stood up to walk alongside Rex. Both Sharpteeth looked to each other before moving after the shaman.
Rai slowly made his way to the edge of the jutting rock of Fang Rock. The dinosaurs down below were eager and anxious to see the young prince. As he came closer to the edge to where everyone down below could see, Rai stopped at the edge and then lifted Prince Chomper above his head to present the next heir to the throne.
Etta: It's the Circle of Life
All the dinosaurs started to bellow, roar and chitter in joy at the sight of the new prince. The Longnecks, the Threehorns and the Spiketails started to stomp hard and continued bellowing for him. The smaller dinosaurs squeaked in delight at the prince.
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
Prince Chomper looked down at everything and everyone, not fully knowing what was going on at the moment. High above them all, the clouds overhead parted to let the Bright Circle shine down on the heir. At that moment, all the dinosaurs started kneeling to the prince. Rex and Eda joined Rai as he still held Chomper at the ledge. Both the king and queen were proud for their son. Soon, all the dinosaurs started to look up to Prince Chomper.
The
Sharptooth King
Later on that same day, in another part of Fang Rock, a little Fuzzy Face scurried out from a hole looking for food. It scurried from once place to another as it sniffed for both danger and for a meal. It scurried along the cave floor before stopping to wipe its face off when it sensed something. Raising itself onto its back legs, the Fuzzy Face started sniffing for any danger and suddenly tensed up. But just as it ran to get away, a black tail knocked into it from the side and sent the small creature flying into the wall. It squeaked when it hit the stone and fell to the floor. But before it could stand up and get away, a massive foot gently placed itself on the small creature's tail. Looking down on it was Scar-Eye. He glared at the creature smaller than him and tauntingly said, "Life's not fair, is it, little rodent?" He took in a deep breath and shrugged, "I somewhat know how you feel. For I will never become king."
The Fuzzy Face tried to pull itself from his foot as he said, "And you won't see the light of another day." He scoffed at both his and his snack's misfortune before saying, "So long."
He leaned down to eat his small meal, but another's voice stopped him, "I say, didn't your mother teach you not to play with your food?"
Scar-Eye looked behind him to see Pterano standing there with his hands on his hips. Scar-Eye growled and said, "First off, don't talk about her like that. And second, what is it, Pterano?"
"Well, first off, I didn't mean any offence when I brought her up." Pterano said in defense of what he said. But then he had a smile and bowed as he said, "And the other thing, I'm here to tell you that King Rex is on his way." His smile vanished as he scowled up to Scar-Eye and said, "So I think you might want to be thinking of what to tell his Majesty why you weren't with the pack this morning."
Scar-Eye was about to retort when he felt the Fuzzy Face finally pull itself from underneath his tail. But as it started to run, Scar-Eye lunged and quickly snatched its tail with his teeth and threw it up into the air. The Fuzzy Face squealed as it came back down and vanished when Scar-Eye snapped his jaws together. Pterano was horrified as Scar-Eye threw his head back and gulped the little creature down in one gulp. The black Sharptooth looked to the Flier and said with a growl, "You almost made me lose my snack."
"Hah!" Pterano laughed, "You'll lose more than that when the king gets through with you." He crossed his wings as he added, "He's as mad as a Threehorn who got his horn stuck in a tree."
"Oh, how I quiver with FEAR!" Scar-Eye hissed as he stood menacingly over the Flier. Pterano became afraid as he said, "Now, now, Scar-Eye. Let's not do anything hasty."
"You know," Scar-Eye said as he tilted his head, "that Fuzzy Face wasn't that much of a snack. Perhaps I need something a little bigger."
"Don't even think about it. You know the consequences." Pterano warned and backed up as the Sharptooth stepped closer. When the bigger dinosaur growled, Pterano jumped out of the way when he lunged with his teeth. Then flapping up into the air he cried out, "HELP!"
But he didn't get far as Scar-Eye leapt into the air and was able to get his entire mouth around the Flier. With a snap of his jaws, he was able to trap Pterano in his jaws. Pterano screamed as he found himself in a predator's mouth. But before he could finish this meal, a foot appeared on the ledge outside of his cave and shouted, "Scar-Eye!"
"Hmm?" Scar-Eye asked with his mouth full and looked back. Standing on a ledge behind him, King Rex had an angry glare as he calmly ordered, "Drop him."
Pterano's beak popped out of Scar-Eye's mouth, startling the Sharptooth, and sounded relieved as he said, "Impeccable timing, your Majesty."
Rex quickly came down from the ledge to talk to his brother. Scar-Eye then lowered his head and spat the Flier out of his mouth. Pterano tumbled onto the ground and slid on his back in the drool. When he sat up, he noticed how much drool he was covered in and said, "Ew!"
"Well, well, well. If it isn't my little brother." Scar-Eye said as Rex came into the cave. Lightly nudging the king with his head he asks, "So what brings you from down high to mingle with the little ole me?"
"Eda and I didn't see you at the presentation of Chomper." Rex said with great disappointment as his brother walked to a wall. Scar-Eye looked back and said with gasp, "That was today?" Then with fake despair in his voice, "Oh, I just feel awful."
Then placing one of his back talons against the stone wall, he slowly slid them down to sharpen his claws. But as they slid, they made a horrible scrapping sound that caused Pterano to cringe and cover his ears, well where they would be anyway. Scar-Eye looked down to his claws with a smile before letting it fall and told his brother, "I'm sorry. It must have slipped my mind."
"Yes, well," Pterano scoffed before flapping into the air. Then getting up in Scar-Eye's face he said, "as slipper as your mind is, you should have remembered that as the king's brother, you should have been first in line."
Scar-Eye growled before clicking his teeth together. Pterano quickly became afraid and back flapped. He quickly hid behind Rex's legs as Scar-Eye bitterly said, "Oh, I was first in line. Twice." He lowered his head to the Flier, making Pterano hid his face behind Rex's leg as the black scaled sharptooth said, "And though I would have happily awaited to be king, the little ball of teeth hatched."
"That 'ball of teeth'," Rex said as he lowered his head in front of his brother's with a bored expression before becoming angry, "is my son." They both raised their heads as he reminded, "And your future king."
"Oh," Scar-Eye said with fake admiration, "I shall go and practice my curtsey."
Then with a snort he turned to walk out of the cave. That made Rex angry as he warned, "Don't turn your back on me, Scar-Eye."
"Oh no, Rex." Scar-Eye said as he looked back to his younger brother. Then he ominously shot back, "Perhaps you shouldn't turn your back on me."
Rex roared in anger before running in front of his brother. Scar-Eye stopped in his tracks as his king questioned through gritted teeth, "Is that a challenge?!"
"Temper, temper." Scar-Eye said to calm his brother. Then he added, "Though it would be interesting to see which of us would be victorious, I wouldn't dream of challenging you."
"Well that's a pity." Pterano flapped over. Then landing between the two sharpteeth he questioned, "Why ever not?"
"Because, of Father." Scar-Eye said. He walked around the two as he said, "As Father disappeared into the Mysterious Beyond, I vowed to honor his final request. So, long live the king."
Then without another word, he walked out into the savannah. Rex and Pterano watched him go as the Flier then said, "Oh, there's one in every family, sire." Then he stopped as he counted, "Two in mine. And boy, do I hope that I don't get any nieces or nephews like that. But as I was saying." Pterano then flapped into the air and landed on Rex's head as he said, "Those like him always manage to ruin special occasions."
"What am I going to do with him?" Rex questioned as his anger disappeared. Pterano had a sly smile as he suggested, "He'd make a very handsome throw rug."
"Pterano!" Rex lightly chided as he looked to the Flier. But Pterano wasn't done as he took to the air again and said, "Just think of it. When ever he should get dirty, you can just take him out and beat him."
Rex lightly chuckled to this as they both went back to the ledge of Fang Rock. But as they walked, Rex knew that his brother was acting like this because of how he felt about Chomper, and how it would affect his becoming king should his time come. Rex sighed as he hoped that his brother would one day let go of his bitter feelings to his son and learn that family is important just as much as being king.

A few days later, sky water clouds rolled over the Great Valley and let loose the water. It poured everywhere, from Fang Rock to the outer walls of the valley. It was even pouring hard in Rai, the shaman Rainbow Face's cave. But the dinosaur was not worried about the rain as he continued his current task. A halved piece of fruit lay at his feet as he held the other half in his hands. Dipping his right thumb claw into the juice, he used it to complete a painting of the young sharptooth prince. He muttered to himself as he applied some of the juice onto the painting. Rai would continue to mutter as he made some adjustments here and there to his work. When the juice from the half he had ran out, he set the half down and grabbed the other half of the fruit. But before he applied anymore to it, he looked over his work with a, "Hmm."
Then with a slight chuckle, he dipped his thumb claw into the juice again. With a single swipe of his thumb, he placed a red marking amongst the painting's purple forehead like she had at the presentation. And he did it while happily saying, "Chomper."
