Chapter Two: Friends and Allies
It was a year or two later and the pack was waiting outside the main cave to see the younglings come out of the cave. The first to come out were a trio of red scaled sharptooth cubs. They playfully nipped at each other as they ran down the two columns of older sharpteeth. The next to come out was a little female yellow sharptooth. Everyone watched as she calmly strode out of the cave while taking in her surroundings. When she noticed that all the grown-ups were staring at her, the little one quickly made her way through. The older members of the pack lightly chuckled to her reaction, but stood still for the final hatchling to come out. Prince Chomper came out like the last cub did, but remembered what his mother told him not too long ago. He took a deep breath and said to himself, "Just stand tall. Show them that you're a member of the pack."
Then holding his head high, Chomper started walking down the path between the fully grown sharpteeth. But when he made it to the middle, he slightly stumbled and fell onto his knees. The pack gasped and Chomper looked at them with an embarrassed glance. But before he could even think about curling into a ball and try to hide himself away, a voice from in front said, "Hey, are you okay?"
Chomper looked up to see the yellow sharptooth standing in front of him. She had a smile on her face as held her hand to him, "Here."
A smile grew on Chomper's face as he took it and she helped him onto his feet. The two continued down the row of older pack members while walking side by side. She looked to him and quietly said, "My name's Scales."
"I'm Chomper." He introduced with a toothy grin. The two friends quickly made their way to catch up with the other three cubs.
From the side lines, Rex, Eda and Roberta all watched with smiles. Rex then moved to meet the cubs at the end of the path. When he got there, the king found his son and the other cubs standing in a straight line. He looked to each of them and said, "Though it will be some time before you will be tested on the necessary skills to contribute to the pack, you will soon be learning what the pack has learned for generations." He turned his head from the left to right as he added, "For the Circle of Life!"
"For the Circle of Life!" Chomper, Scales and the three other siblings called out. King Rex nodded and said, "Now go and enjoy yourselves, little ones. You have plenty of time to worry about all the responsibilities of becoming part of the pack later."
All five of the sharptooth cubs nodded their heads in respect before turning tail and moving back to the cave. As he started to walk back as well, Chomper stopped when his father called, "Chomper?"
The purple sharptooth cub looked back and said, "Yes, Dad?"
"Come with me, please." Rex said with a gesture of his head. Chomper didn't hesitate and quickly ran to catch up with his father. They walked to the edge of Fang Rock's ledge and King Rex stopped while gazing out. When Chomper stopped beside him, his father said, "Don't feel too embarrassed about stumbling."
Chomper wished that he wasn't reminded, but stayed quiet as his father then said, "It could have gone a lot worse. And, you did remember what your mother told you. Keeping your head high, and standing tall for the pack outweighs the shame of a simple stumble."
"Really?" Chomper asked. Rex nodded and said, "It does. And I'm going tell you something that happened when I went through the child presentation of the pack."
Chomper listened closely as his father said with a slight chuckle, "I accidentally stepped on your uncle's tail when I made it to the end."
Chomper slightly smiled, but stopped himself as he didn't want to appear rude. A voice from behind then said, "Please, I didn't even feel it."
Both Chomper and his father looked back to see Scar-Eye standing a few feet behind them. Scar-Eye then told his nephew, "And that's nothing compared to me running into that girl on the way to the end of the path."
"And then she bit at you to make you step back." Rex said with a smirk. Scar-Eye smirked as well as he said, "I still fear your wife when she gets mad."
Chomper's eyes widened as at the thought of his uncle running into his mother. Scar-Eye then added, "And I loved the feistiness she had then."
"Anyway," Rex said, trying not to go toward some kind of conversation, "are you sure that you couldn't feel it?" Referring to him stepping on his brother's tail, "Cause I remember you giving a loud yelp of pain."
"Hey, at least it wasn't a scream." Scar-Eye pointed out. Rex nodded and said, "That's true."
Scar-Eye chuckled before saying to Chomper, "But I need to have minute in private with your father." Gesturing with his head he asked, "Will you please give us a few minutes?"
"Uh, okay." Chomper said before running between his uncle's legs and down the ledge. When he reached the bottom, he could hear his uncle say to his father, "We need to discuss the borders."
"What is there to discuss?" Rex questioned. Scar-Eye then said, "Perhaps we should open up to-"
"We already went through this." The younger sibling reminded. Then with a firm look in his eye he said, "They've chosen how they wish to live and have no respect for others."
"I was hoping that you'd have more of an open mind to this." Scar-Eye said with a sigh. Rex then said, "Well, when they decide to change their ways towards others, then I will reconsider."
Scar-Eye said nothing more, turned and walked back down the ledge. Rex watched him go before his gaze softened and regretted how he acted toward his brother. He knew that he would need to make it up to him somehow.

Later that evening, just an hour past sunset, Scar-Eye walked down the stone steps of Fang Rock. Two sharpteeth that had been ordered to keep watch at the bottom looked back to see him approach and one of them asked, "Lord Scar-Eye, may I ask where you are going?"
"Just for an evening walk." Scar-Eye calmly said. The other guard then asked, "When can we expect you back?"
"I won't be gone too long, I assure you." Scar-Eye said before taking his leave. The two sharpteeth looked to each other as the black scaled sharptooth disappeared into the night.

Scar-Eye soon came to an area that wasn't too far from the Great Valley but in a section of the Mysterious Beyond that few ever dared to tread. As he walked into a graveyard of dinosaur bones Scar-Eye looked around and said, "My friends, come out. I have come with news."
It wasn't long until three figures emerged from the shadows and came up to the Big Biter. Three black-striped, red Fast Biters came up to him and one of them, a female, quirked a brow as she asked, "What has your brother said?"
"I'm afraid that he won't give into your request, Clawdette." Scar-Eye said with a shake of his head. Then he said, "My king will not make life between us any easier."
"If only you had become king instead." Clawdette hissed. Then she added, "Now he's got himself a little brat and it'll probably won't get any better for us."
"But through me it could." Scar-Eye said with a grin. This confused the Fast Biters as one of the others questions, "What do you mean through you? No offense, but you ain't got no shot at being king anytime soon."
"True," Scar-Eye nodded, but a devilish smile adorned his muzzle as he said, "but if we work together I can be. And then we all finally get what we want."
The three Fast Biters looked to each other before thinking that this could be beneficial to them. Clawdette then looked up to the Big Biter and asked, "When do we start?"
Scar-Eye's grin grew ever darker as their alliance was in effect.

Later that evening at Fang Rock, most of the pack was already asleep and Rex, Eda and Chomper all went over to their spot. As his parents laid down, Chomper looked up to his father and asked, "Can I go patrolling with you tomorrow?"
Both Rex and Eda looked to each other before she nodded her approval. Rex looked down to his son and said, "Yes, you may. And I can begin to teach you how to be king."
"I think that sounds like a wonderful idea." Eda said as she looked between her two boys. Then she added, "And I can lead a hunting party while you're gone."
"Sounds like a plan." Rex agreed. They all laid down and Chomper closed his eyes while saying, "Good night."

Author's Note: So sorry if this additional chapter isn't as good as the ones from my previous stories. I just wanted to do something different. But we get back to the main story in the next chapter. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
