Chapter Four: I Just Can't Wait to be King
Chomper quickly ran along the paths of Fang Rock to find the one person he was wanting to tell. As he ran down a slope, he passed by a few pack members who were enjoying some time off from hunting or patrolling. As he ran by a ledge that had three sharpteeth on it, one watched the purple sharptooth as he continued running. He saw Scales and their mother's at the bottom of the slope under the shade of a tree and went over to them. He could see his mother resting on her side on a rock while Scales was getting a wash from her mother. Her mother licked Scales' neck as Chomper came up and said, "Hi, Scales."
"Hi, Chomper." She said as Roberta's tongue stroked her cheek. Speaking with a whisper and checked to see if his mother was listening, Chomper then said, "Come on. I just heard about this great place."
"Chomper!" Scales hissed as she was being licked on the back of the head, "I'm kind of in the middle of a bath."
She then turned and raised her chin as her mother washed it. This made Chomper a little annoyed and bummed, but it changed into fear when he heard a voice behind him say, "And it's time for yours."
Chomper tried to run away, but Eda got up and took a few steps before catching the cub's head in her mouth. Moving back onto the rock, she laid back down and gently set him down in the coil of her tail. Eda then licked his left cheek, causing him to cry out, "Mom!"
Chomper tried to jump out of her grasp, but she stopped him with her tail and licked his back. He shouted as he turned and received a lick to the face, "Mom, you know I'll just get dirty again!"
This caused Eda to stop and look down to her son with a smile. Before she could resume washing him, Chomper jumped from her grasp. He shook himself before turning to his mother and asked, "Okay, okay, I'm clean. Can we go now?"
"So, where are we going?" Scales asks as she was on her back and holding her tail as her mother washed her rump. Then she added, "It better not be anyplace dumb."
"No," Chomper assured as he turned to her, "it's really cool."
"So, where is this really cool place?" Eda asks, having overheard him and it made Chomper cringe.
"Oh." Chomper said as he began to think. He didn't want to lie to either of his parents, but he knew they wouldn't let him go if they knew. He turned to her with a smile and said, "Uh, around the water hole."
"The water hole?" Scales questioned as she rolled over while her mother continued to wash yer. Chomper's face fell as he didn't want to give to much away. Chomper put his smile back on as he walked over to his friend. With gritted teeth, Ramsey spoke to where Scales could understand, "I'll show you when we get there."
"Oh." Scales said as she finally understood. Then turning to her own mother, she asked, "Uh, Mom, can I go with Chomper?"
"Hmm, what do you think, Eda?" Roberta said as she looked to the queen. Eda then started to think, "Well…"
Both Chomper and Scales walked up to her and gave her toothy grins as they asked, "Please?"
"It's alright with me." Eda said, thinking a small trip to the water hole wouldn't be bad. This caused both cubs to run and shout with joy, "Yeah! Alright!"
Eda then added a condition as they were about to run off, "As long as Pterano goes with you."
This caused both young sharpteeth to stop and sit. They were both distressed as Chomper looked to Scales and said, "No, not Pterano."
"It's either he goes with you," Eda told them, "or you don't go at all."
Chomper and Scales looked to each other before they both say in unison, "Fine."
The two then ran off to find the Flier.

"Step lively." Pterano told them as they were nearing the water hole. Pterano flew above them to keep an eye out while watching the cubs. He looked down to them and said, "The sooner we go over to the water hole, the sooner we can leave."
Really wanting to know where they were going, Scales leaned close to Chomper and quietly asked, "So where are we really going?"
"To a spot in the Mysterious Beyond." Chomper excitedly told her. This got Scales excited and she said, "Wow!"
"Shh!" Chomper said while getting close. He then gestured to their babysitter, "Pterano."
"Right." Scales nodded and caught on. Knowing they wouldn't get anywhere with him watching them, she then asked, "So how are we going to ditch him?"
The two sharptooth cubs then started to whisper their plan amongst themselves. Pterano looked back and a smile formed on his beak. Then turning to land, he then said, "Oh, just look at you two." He landed on the ground and said, "Little seeds of romance blossoming in the Great Valley plains."
Chomper and Scales looked to each other with a raised brow as they didn't understand what he was talking about. But Pterano had a look of happiness as he stated, "Your parents will be thrilled, what with your bring betrothed and all."
"Be-what?" Chomper asks as the word confused both him and Scales. Pterano's smile didn't falter as he added synonyms to the word, "Betrothed. Intended. Affianced."
Chomper and Scales looked to each other as they still didn't understand. Scales then decided to take a turn and back to the Flier and asked, "Meaning..."
"One day, you both are going to be married to each other." Pterano said as he placed his hands on his hips. This caused both sharptooth cubs to look to each other at the thought while adopting grossed out looks, "Yuck! Eww!"
"I can't marry her." Chomper said as he moved closer to Pterano. The Flier's smile dropped as he crossed his wings. He then added, "She's my friend."
"Yeah." Scales added as she walked to the other side of the Flier. She shook her head as it sounded ridiculous to her, "It'd be too weird."
"Well, I am so sorry to burst your bubbles," Pterano said as he moved a little, "but you two Shell Back Fliers have no choice." Chomper started to silently mimic what the Flier was saying and it made Scales smile. Pterano then smiled as he proudly said, "It's a tradition that goes back generations."
"Well when I'm king," Chomper assured Scales with a wink, "that'll be the first thing to go."
"Not so long as I'm around." Pterano said while looking back to the cubs. A beat started to fill the air as the cubs looked to each other to put their plan into motion. Coming up to him Chomper then said with a grin, "Well, in that case, you'll have to be fired."
"Hm, nice try," Pterano said while tapping the prince's snout, "but only the king can do that."
"Well," Scales pointed out as she walked up to them, "he is the future king."
"Yeah." Chomper nodded as he knew that she was right. Acting a little smug, Chomper then said, "Yeah, so you have to do what I tell you."
"Not yet, I don't." Pterano said and placed his hands on his hips again, becoming very angry with the two. The spirits started to intensify the beat a little. The two turned away with annoyed expressions as he said, "And with an attitude like that, I am afraid that you're shaping up to be a pretty pathetic king, indeed."
"Hmph." Chomper said as he looked back. With a confident grin he said, "Not the way I see it."
With a leap towards the Flier, Chomper was able to make Pterano back up. The land suddenly changed colors as Chomper started to sing…
Chomper: I'm gonna be a mighty king
So enemies beware
He got really close, even though he was shorter than Pterano, and made the Flier back up before falling over a fallen log. He jumped on to look down to Pterano as the Flier gave him an annoyed look...
Pterano:Well, I've never seen a king of beasts
So small that he would dare
Pterano stood up and placed a hand on the prince's head before turning him around. Then grabbing his tail with his free hand, Pterano pulled back before letting snap, causing the cub to tumble into some leaves.
Chomper: I'm gonna be the main event
Like no king was before
Chomper came back out of the leaf pile with a mane made of leaves around his head. He shook it off before jumping onto the log and climbing up to where he as eye level with the Flier. He made himself look regal as he sang...
Chomper: I'm brushing up on looking down
I'm working on my ROAR!
The wind of his 'roar' caused Pterano to stumble backwards before falling into a mud puddle. Pterano coughed as he stepped out of the mud puddle and walked over to a leaf to wipe the mud off as he commented through song…
Pterano: Thus far, a rather uninspiring thing
He even took the liberty of blowing his nose into the leaf. But when he looked to see what his leaf was, he found that it was the tail of a gray Threehorn. The Threehorn gave the Flier an angry look before using his tail to swat Pterano away. Pterano screamed as he was sent flying. He skipped over a pond as Chomper and Scales both ran after him as the former sang…
Chomper: Oh, I just can't wait to be king
As they ran, they were able to slid over the surface of the water and scared some pink Big Mouth Swimmers in the process. They met Pterano at a small stream on both sides and the brown Flier pointed to the purple prince as he said, "You have a rather long way to go, young master, if you think…"
Both sharpteeth cubs would make faces as he tried to talk. And when he turned, the other would do it behind his back.
Chomper: No one sayin', "Do this"
Pterano: "Now, when I said that…"
Scales stuck her tongue out and shook her head while getting close. But when Pterano turned his head…
Scales: No one saying, "Be there"
Pterano: "What I meant was…"
As Pterano turned to the yellow sharptooth cub, Chomper pulled on his lips and crossed his eyes while sticking out his tongue. Pterano slightly noticed it and turned his head…
Chomper: No one sayin', "Stop that"
Pterano: "You don't realize…"
Scales made a fishy face and when Pterano turned to her, she used her tail to pull on her snout. The two then ran off as they sang together…
Chomper and Scales: No one sayin', "See here!"
Pterano: "Now, see here!"
Suddenly he was knocked over by a couple Dome Heads. When he looked to them, the Flier's eyes went wide when he saw both Chomper and Scales riding on their backs. Chomper looked back to the majordomo as he sang…
Chomper: Free to run around all day
Pterano ran through the water before taking to the air and disagreed with a deadpanned look as he said, "Well, that's definitely out."
Chomper and Scale's Dome Heads ran down a hill as all four of them had smiles on their faces. Chomper felt confident as he sang…

The colors of the world changed from one color to the next as Pterano flew after the children's Dome Heads. When he caught up with them, Pterano flew in front of the Dome Heads, looked back as he was flying and wagged a finger as he sang…

But when Pterano came walking through, the two rows of Thumb Spikes turned around and raised their tails. Pterano quickly shielded himself with his wings at what they might do.
Chomper and Scales quickly ran into a herd of Longnecks as they stepped to the beat. The two friends made sure to stay out of the way when they stomped their feet. The two sharpteeth cubs would weave underneath the Longnecks while Pterano flew overhead. He looked for any signs of the cubs before diving down and flew under the Longnecks. But the cubs were no longer under as Chomper was now sitting on a Longneck's head. Then through song he commanded…
Chomper: Everybody look left
Pterano squawked in terror as an assortment of dinosaurs danced over him. Pterano shakily rose to his feet right as Scales then sang…
Scales: Everybody, look right
The dinosaurs then danced over Pterano again as they went by. Chomper hopped up on some Longneck heads as he sang with a smile…
Chomper: Everywhere you look I'm
He slid down the back of the tallest Longneck there. As he neared the bottom, he spun as he stood up in a spotlight…
Standing the spotlight
"Not yet!" Pterano shouted as he pushed a Thumb Spike and Longneck's rear out of the way. He couldn't hold it for long as he squished when they came back together. Chomper then whispered into the ear of a Big Mouth Swimmer who whispered it into the ear of a Longneck who whispered it into the ear of a Frilled Spitter while a chorus of dinosaurs then sang…
Dinosaur Chorus: Let every creature go for broke and sing
As Pterano brushed himself off, he was suddenly grabbed by a pair of Frilled Spitters by the neck and they pulled him into the tree.
Dinosaur Chorus: Let's hear it in the herd and on the wing
In a river a float of Belly Draggers were part of the chorus and then opened their mouths to let the teeth cleaning Fliers chirp. The Frilled Spitters tossed Pterano from one to another as the dinosaurs down below continued to sing…
Dinosaur Chorus: It's gonna be King Chomper's finest fling
A group of Flathead Longnecks had Chomper and Scales on their heads before throwing them high into the air. When they came back down the Longnecks did it again, and this time they were thrown past the branch Pterano was sitting as the Frilled Spitters picked him from bugs. Pterano gave one annoyed look as it picked a bug from his head.
Chomper, Scales and Dinosaur Chorus: Oh, I just can't wait to be king
The dinosaurs of the valley started to form a pyramid. Flathead Longnecks marched in a circle on the outside, Spiketails stood on the back of a Clubtail while Big Mouth Swimmers carefully stood on the back of the Spiketails. A single Dome Head stood at the top with Chomper and Scales sitting on its back.

Oh, I just can't wait to be king
A small flock of pink Fliers flew in a circle above the pyramid.
Chomper and Scales: Oh, I just can't wait
The pyramid started to sway as the dinosaurs became imbalanced.
To be king
The pyramid of dinosaurs fell apart: the Dome Head fell on three Big Mouth Swimmers, one of the falling Big Mouth Swimmers made two Flathead Longnecks wrap their necks with a crack, a Longneck's rear fell onto the tail spikes of a Spiketail making it bellow in pain. And unfortunately, under the pile, Pterano's legs shook as the Clubtail's rear fell on top of him. The rest of the Big Mouth Swimmers and a lone Flathead Longneck fled as the song ended. When the Clubtail hadn't moved, Pterano, with a muffled voice given his situation, said, "I beg your pardon, madam, but… GET OFF!"
Then wondering about the two sharpteeth cubs, he called out, "Chomper? Scales!"
But the two were already running off.
