Chapter Five: Terror of the Fast Biters

Chomper and Scales laughed as they ran far from the flattened Pterano. They ran around a rock before coming to a stop to take a breather. Chomper looked to his friend with a smile and he excitedly said, "All right! It worked!"

"We lost him." Scales said with equal joy. She was about to keep going when Chomper said with a big grin, "I am a genius."

"Hey, genius, it was my idea." Scales reminded with an annoyed look as he sat down. But Chomper still took credit while placing a hand on his chest, "Yeah, but I was the one who pulled most of it off."

"With me!" She defiantly said with a grin. Chomper smirked as well as he tensed up his body and said, "Oh, yeah?"

Then with a playful growl, he tackled Scales to the ground. But when her back touched the ground, Chomper felt her back feet push up against her stomach. Both sharptooth cubs flipped in the air. As they came down, Scales was the one on top. When they touched the ground, Chomper gritted his teeth as he came up a little. But Scales planted a foot on his chest and pushed him back down with a loud thump. He opened his eyes in shock as he looked up to his friend. With a giggle and her foot still on his chest, Scales playfully got close to his face and said, "Pinned ya."

"Hey, let me up!" Chomper exclaimed before nipping at her. It was enough to get her to back off of him. Scales then backed away from him as she had a triumphant smile while turning her head to the left with closed eyes. Chomper was annoyed as he rolled onto his side and looked at Scales. A smile came unto his face when he thought he would have the element of surprise. Then quickly getting up, Chomper then tackled into her with another growl.

Both sharpteeth cubs laughed as they rolled across the ground, but then they rolled off the side of a hill. When they went over the side, Chomper lost his grip on Scales. The two separated with Scales landing on her feet and Chomper rolling head over tail. During the roll they smiled as Chomper was able to grab hold of Scales. They continued laugh while rolling past some jutting rocks. When they neared the bottom, Chomper still had a hold on her as he threw them off the hill. He tried to pin her as they landed, but she was able to plant her back feet against his belly again and kicked up when she felt the ground against her back. Chomper and Scales flipped through the air with Scales once again coming out on top. A smirk grew on Scales' face as they came back down. When they landed, Chomper came up a little again, but Scales planted a foot on her chest and pushed her back down with another thump. He grunted before looking up to the sharptooth standing on top of him. This time a little more smugly, Scales said, "Pinned ya again."

"Uh, fine." Chomper gave in while giving her an annoyed look. But an erupting geyser made them gasp when it stole their attention. When the steam settled, Scales let Chomper get back up on his feet and they looked to where they were. They noticed that hardly any plant life was growing here, steam vents were in a few places here and there, the soil was brown and felt lifeless. Chomper and Scales both looked up to see something tall over the next rise. The two climbed up the hill and when they came to the top, they saw the skeleton of a Longneck curved like a crescent Night Circle. The skull was laying on its side as its jaws were wide open. Seeing that they were in the right place, Chomper excitedly said, "This is it. We made it."

Chomper and Scales walked over to the Longneck's skeletal tail and looked past it. What they saw next made them both look to each other and say, "Whoa!"

The bones of many dinosaurs were scattered throughout the Mysterious Graveyard. Skeletons could be seen as far as the eye could see. Scales then commented, "This place is really creepy."

"Yeah." Chomper said in agreement. Then looking over to his friend he asked, "Isn't it great?"

"We could get into big trouble." Scales said as she leaned a little closer to him. Chomper, thinking that it was exciting said in agreement, "I know! Hah!"

"But I think we've seen enough." She admitted. Turning away, she then said, "We came and we saw."

"You're right." Chomper agreed and started to follow her. But as they started to leave, Chomper looked back to the skull and found himself wondering. Scales happened to look back to see that her best friend had stopped. With a little urgency in her voice, Scales pleaded, "Chomper, please, let's just go."

However, Chomper found himself walking to the skull. But before he could even so much as touch it, a shadow moved overhead. Looking up, they watched as Pterano drop from the sky. When he landed, he glared and he said, "Not so much as another step, young ones."

"Uh oh." Both sharptooth cubs said as they knew that they were busted. Pterano then said, "We are way beyond the boundaries of the Great Valley."

Chomper then tried to comfort him by saying, "But, Pterano we-"

"Don't you 'Pterano' me, Buster." The flier said while poking Chomper in the snout. Then he said, "We are leaving, because this is a dangerous place. And I'd rather not get into any danger."

"Say what?" Scales asked, now feeling a little scared.

"But Pterano," Chomper pointed out. He tried to ease the tension by saying, "we walk on the wild side. We should be able to laugh in the face of danger."

Laughter suddenly erupted from inside the Longneck skull. All three friends gasped and both cubs ran to Pterano. They stood by his side as three shapes emerged from the skull, one slinked out from under the jaw, one from the right eye and a third from between the jaws. Chomper, Scales and Pterano gasped as they were in the presence of the Fast Biters, dinosaurs who had been banished from the Great Valley due to not respecting the Circle of Life. They had found refuge here in the Mysterious Graveyard and had been living here ever since. The two male Fast Biters were red with black stripes over their bodies while the female was a little darker in shade of red. The leader of the group walked along the ground while the males walked along the jaws of the Longneck skull. Without looking back to them as they jumped down, the female asked, "Well, well, well, Leaper, what have we got ourselves here?"

Pterano wrapped his wings around the cubs in order to protect them. The Biter behind the female took a moment to think before saying with a shake of his head, "Gee, I don't know Clawdette. Uh…" Leaper looked back to the third Fast Biter and asked, "What do you think, Scratch?"

Scratch didn't give a straight answer and gave only an insane cackle. All three Fast Biters came up to the trio as Leaper then said, "Yeah, just what I was thinking," He became angry looking as he shouted, "A trio of trespassers!"

Both Sharptooth cubs looked scared as Pterano tried to talk their way out of it with a nervous chuckle, "And quite an accident it was, I assure you. Twas but simply a navigational error. But we shan't stay."

He turned to guide the two sharpteeth cubs out, but Clawdette was quick to grab him by the wing and said, "Whoa, whoa, wait, wait." Clawdette narrowed her eyes as she came a little closer and said, "I know of you. You're Rex's little stooge."

"I, madam, am the king's majordomo." Pterano corrected while he removed his wing from her grasp, earning a glare from the Fast Biter. The other two started to circle around Chomper and Scales as Leaper questioned Chomper, "And that would make you?"

"The future king." Chomper defiantly said as Pterano rejoined the two. Clawdette joined in on the circling as she questioned, "Do you have any idea what we do to kings who step outside their kingdoms?"

"You can't do anything to us, lest you start a war with my father." Chomper defiantly pointed out. Pterano gave a nervous laugh and said, "While you are right about that my boy, we are on their land."

"But Pterano," Chomper started to argue. He remembered what the Flier said and repeated, "you told me that they're nothing but slobbering, mangy, stupid poachers."

Pterano had tried to make the cub stop, but when he didn't, the Flier mumbled, "Ix-nay on the upid-stay."

"Who are you calling upid-stay?!" Leaper angrily questioned while getting in Pterano's face. The Flier then tried to get them out of there while he said, "My, my, my. Oh, look at the Bright Circle. It's time to go!"

"What's the hurry for?" Clawdette asked as she ran in front of the fleeing trio. She made them back up as she said, "We would love for to stick around for dinner."

"Yeah," Leaper said as he started to think of a joke, "we could have a meal that's, fit for a King!"

This caused all three Fast Biters to burst out laughing. Clawdette waved her hand as she then said, "Wait, wait, wait, I got one, I got one!" Placing her hand on her chest she said, "Make mine a cub sandwich!" She laughed before asking, "What do you think?"

Both Fast Biters kept on laughing at the jokes, but suddenly Scratch jumped between them, making noises and pointing with his claws at something. Not understanding anything coming from his fellow predator, Clawdette then asked, "What, Scratch? What is it?"

Leaper looked in the direction where Scratch was pointing and then asked with a quirked brow, "Hey, did we order this dinner to go?"

"No, why?" Clawdette asked in confusion. Leaper then shouted as she looked to see Pterano and the sharptooth cubs running deeper into the Mysterious Graveyard, "Cause there it goes!"

Chomper and Scales panted as they ran through the skeletal bone yard while Pterano flew over them. But as he made sure to keep an eye on them, he didn't notice a shape leap at him. He yelped as Leaper tackled him from the air. Chomper and Scales continued running, unaware that Pterano was no longer behind them. They came to a stop underneath the rib cage of a dinosaur and took a moment to regain their breath. They looked around as Scales asked, "Did we lose them?"

"I think so." Chomper said as he couldn't see any signs of the Fast Biters. But then he noticed something was wrong and asked in worry, "Where's Pterano?"

Said Flier squawked in terror as Leaper and Scratch held him by the wings. They made it look as if he were walking towards a steam vent while Leaper said, "The majordomo Flier hippety-hopped all the way over to the birdie boiler."

"Oh, no!" Pterano cried out as they held him over the vent. He was able break free for a moment, but they were able to catch him again before stuffing him into the steam vent. Pressure started to build up as he shouted, "Not the birdie boiler!"

The three Fast Biters watched as the steam built up before shooting a screaming Pterano high into the sky. Pterano was sent flying far while leaving a trail of steam behind him. All three Fast Biters started laughing hysterically from it. But their laughter was cut short when a voice called out, "Hey!"

They looked up to see Chomper and Scales standing on the rib cage of a dinosaur as the former said with a glare, "Why don't you guys pick on somebody your own size?"

"Like you?" Clawdette asked with a dark grin. Chomper's face fell when he realized his mistake and uttered, "Oops."

Clawdette lunged at them as Scales screamed in fright right as they turned tail just as he clacked his jaws. Both sharptooth cubs ran but stopped short as a geyser erupted red steam in front of them and the three Fast Biters poked their heads through. They laughed as they all shouted, "Boo!"

Then with a glare, they chomped at the cubs. Chomper and Scales jumped back and ran the other way as the Fast Biters started to give chase again. Clawdette gained ground and tried to take a bite out of Chomper's tail but missed and continued to give chase. Both Big Biter cubs climbed up the skull of a Longneck and nearly avoided a bite from Leaper. Chomper and Scales then jumped down and slid down the backbone with Scales holding on to him. They jiggled and made funny noises as they went down. When they reached the end, it caused them to scream while sent flying through the air. They crashed into another giant pile of bones and scrambled as they climbed up it.

The Fast Biters ran towards the pile as Chomper pulled ahead of Scales. But when he reached the top, he heard Scales call out, "Chomper!"

Chomper looked back down and gasped; Scales screamed as he was sliding back down the pile and what made matters worse was that the Fast Biters were closing in on them. Chomper didn't waste any time in running back down to save his friend. Clawdette snarled with drooling jaws when he tried to take a bite out of the fleeing Scales. But Chomper leapt at her and buried his teeth into the top of her snout. The Fast Biter squealed in pain before Chomper used both back feet to land a blow to her cheek. He left bite marks on her snout and a large bruise on her cheek as she turned to the Big Biter cub with a snarl of anger. Chomper and Scales climbed over the top of the bone pile and made for a cave.

They ran into the cave and saw a ledge above the skeleton of a really big Longneck. The Big Biter cubs were able to climb to the top of the rib cage and tried to jump for the ledge. But Chomper slipped when he came back down and crashed right into Scales. Their fall caused the leftover skin to rip and fell through the ribs. Both cubs grunted when they hit the stone cold floor. They picked themselves up and gasped when they saw the approaching Fast Biters. All three of them growled menacingly as they continued to march forward.

Chomper moved in front of Scales and was ready to defend his friend. An idea came to mind, Chomper took a deep breath and let out a small and weak roar. Scales didn't know what to think as he looked from Chomper to the Fast Biters. But his attempt only made them laugh as Clawdette taunted, "That was it?" They all stepped closer with sadistic grins and she said, "DO it again. Come on, tell me."

Chomper took in another deep breath and when he opened his mouth a deep roar ran throughout the cave, surprising Scales. It also surprised the Fast Biters as well and they all had questioning looks as two of the three said, "Huh?"

The next moment, a big green tail swats all three of them aside from their right. As they tumbled, Rex roared as he ran at them and knocked Leaper away with his head. Clawdette came in from the side and bit Rex on his side. Rex roared in pain and retaliated by kicking her away and started to stomp on Scratch. Leaper then leaped onto Rex's back and started biting at the back of his head. Rex was able to knock the Fast Biter onto his side before grabbing him with his jaws and tossing Leaper into the other two. Scratch tried to run away, but Rex grabbed his tail with his jaws just as Clawdette went on the attack again. From where Chomper and Scales sat and watched the fight, Pterano came flying up to them to see if they were all right. The cubs nor he didn't move or say anything as they watched the fight as the outside light cast the fighting shadows. Rex was able to knock them all down and soon moved over them with a growl. The three Fast Biters laid on their backs with the boys on both sides of Clawdette and they all looked terrified as they begged for mercy, "Oh, please, please! Uncle, Uncle!"

"Silence!" Rex ordered with a snarl. The other two cringed in fear while Leaper assured, "We're gonna shut up right now!"

"Calm down. We're really sorry." Clawdette said as she tried to make peace. Rex glared down at them and warned with a growl and a glare, "If you ever come near my son again…"

"Oh, your son…" Leaper said as if he hadn't known who Chomper was. Clawdette looked over to him and she asked, "Did you know that he was his son?"

"No. Me? I didn't know.." Leaper lightly laughed as he denied it. Then he asked her, "No, did you?"

"No, of course not." Clawdette denied as well. Leaper was in full agreement with her as he said, "No."

Then they both turned to the third Fast Biter and asked, "Scratch?"

The Fast Biter with a mental problem had his tongue out as he stupidly shook his head up and down. This made Rex roar out in anger. The three Fast Biters cringed at this before Leaper waved his hand and said, "Toodles."

And with that, all three Fast Biters ran off and whimpered in fear as they ran out of the cave. Rex panted as he watched them flee. Pterano flew over next to his king, looked up to him and nodded his head as if to say that'll-teach-them. But all Rex did in response was look down at the Flier with an angered face. Pterano shank in fear as he was In trouble for what had happened. Chomper and Scales ran from their hiding place and stopped behind Rex. Scales stayed back while Chomper tried to say, "Dad, I…"

Rex slightly growled as he turned to his son and said with an angry look, "You deliberately disobeyed me."

Chomper was at a complete loss for words, but tried to make it right by saying, "Dad, I'm… I'm so sorry."

"Let's go home." Rex sternly said and began to lead them out of the Mysterious Graveyard. Pterano took to the air after his king and looked back to the Big Biter cubs with a sad look. Both Chomper and Scales hung their heads as they followed the two grown ups out of the cave. Scales looked to her best friend and admitted, "I thought you were very brave."

But Chomper didn't say anything as they continued to walk. He was thinking of how upset his father was at him, and how much he had let his father down.

Unbeknownst to any of them, up on the ledge where the cubs tried to reach; Scar-Eye looked down at the leaving party. A deep frown had formed on his face as he didn't like what had happened. He was hoping that it would have turned out differently. With a silent growl, he turned as he knew that he would be talking to his minions soon.

Author's Note: I know that there were a few differences from what I did the last few times, but I thought it would be necessary. There might be few differences in the next chapter as well, but who knows if I will. But I need to get back to other stories, so I don't know when I'll make more chapters for this story.
