Chapter Ten: The Hakuna Matata Lifestyle with Four New Friends
Chomper had been running from the Great Valley for three days straight and found himself in a desert that had cracks running through the ground. He panted as he had not eaten or had any water since he had started running. The overbearing sun finally got to him as he shakily walked. When he couldn't go any further he collapsed from exhaustion and laid there unconscious. Up above him, a flock of sharp-beak Fliers started to circle over the young Sharptooth cub and screeched at the thought of a potential meal. They cawed and started to make their way down to the ground and the unconscious Chomper, thinking that he would be easy pickings. The flock landed on all sides of the cub and moved in to feed. And just when they were about to start pecking at Chomper, a multitude of voices shouted, "Eyaah!"
Suddenly, a dark green male Spiketail, a light green female Bigmouth Swimmer, a yellow female Threehorn and a red and orange male Flier came running or flapping towards the sharp-beak Fliers. The scavenging dinosaurs quickly flew away as the Threehorn headbutted one away with her head, the Spiketail turned a full circle and swatted another with his tail. The Bigmouth Swimmer and the Flier worked together as they grabbed a sharp-beak Flier as the Flier pushed one to the Swimmer and the Swimmer responded by kicking it away. The Flier started to peck at another while shouting, "Get out! Get out! Get out of here!"
All four chased the rest off with either a kick, headbutt, swat or a peck. When they were all gone, all four friends cheered from having their fun as Spiketail said, "Hah! I love this!"
"I know!" The Threehorn agreed. She chuckled as she said, "Bowling for sharp-beaks is amazing."
"Ha, ha, ha." The Flier laughed while the Spiketail and the Threehorn moved to see what they were after. The Bigmouth Swimmer leaned on him as she said, "It does get them every time, yep, yep, yep."
The two kept laughing as the Swimmer then started to pluck feathers off of herself and her friend. They both looked over when they heard the Spiketail, "Uh, hey, Petrie, Ducky, you might want to come take a look at this."
"I think the sharp-beak's meal is still alive." The Threehorn added with a grossed-out face. Both Petrie and Ducky looked a little disturbed by this as the former said, "Eeeuw."
They walked over to the Sharptooth cub and saw that the sharp-beaks had dropped his tail over his face when they started to run. All four friends surrounded the young dinosaur as Petrie said, "What we have here?"
The Spiketail leaned down and sniffed the little dinosaur and could smell that it was still alive. Petrie reached down and moved the tail from Chomper's face to see what it was. The Flier instantly became scared as he dropped the tail and shouted, "Aah! It a sharptooth!" He flapped behind the Threehorn and shouted, "Cera! Do Something!"
"I'm on it." Cera said before charging at the unconscious sharptooth. But before anything could be done, the Spiketail moved in front of her and Ducky shouted, "No, Cera! Don't hurt him."
"Spike! Ducky!" Cera shouted before giving an angry snort. Then she said, "Get out of the way. It's a sharptooth!"
"Hey, Cera, come on." Spike said with an annoyed expression to get her and Petrie to calm down. His face changed when he looked back to Chomper and Ducky pointed out, "He's just a little sharptooth. Look at him. He's so cute and all alone."
Spike then gave a pleading face as she asked, "Can we keep him?" Ducky joined him and said, "Please?"
Petrie flapped in front of Spike and grabbed the sides of his face before pressing his own face against him and shouting, "Are Petrie's friends nuts?!"
Cera was in agreement with the Flier as she said, "You guys are talking about a sharptooth. A Big Biter at that. And sharpteeth eat dinosaurs like us."
"But he's so little." Spike said while looking back. It had made Petrie fall on his face. He looked up and pointed out, "He grow bigger."
"Well, maybe we can teach him what is food and what is not food." Ducky suggested. Cera blew a raspberry as she and Petrie started to laugh. Petrie then said, "That never work."
"Yeah, it's the dumbest thing we've ever heard." Cera laughed out loud. Then she started to say, "Maybe she-" Suddenly, the idea didn't sound so ridiculous to them anymore as Cera said, "Maybe that could work."
"Me suppose." Petrie said with a shrug. Spike then added, "And when he gets bigger, he'll be able to protect us from other sharpteeth."
"I like the sound of that. I do. I do." Ducky nodded. Spike then asked as Ducky bent down to pick up the young sharptooth, "So we're keeping him?"
"Uh, yeah we're keeping him." Cera said with a playful smirk. Ducky placed Chomper on Spike's back before hopping on herself. She kept one hand on Chomper while holding on to one of Spike's plates. All four of them could feel the heat as Cera then said, "Gee, I'm sure feeling fried."
"Me too." Petrie agreed and flapped onto Cera's back. Both Ducky and Spike nodded in agreement. Spike then said the smartest thing of the conversation, "Let's go find some shade and get some water."
Spike and Cera then carried their passengers back the way they had come. They faced towards a large valley with lush trees.

A few minutes later, the four had come to a pond on the outskirts of the forest within the valley. Sliding off Spike's back, Ducky then picked Chomper off and handed him to Petrie. The Flier took Chomper in his arms as Ducky walked over to the pond and dipped her hands into it. When she brought her cupped hands out of the water there was a good-sized amount in her hands. Petrie brought Chomper over and was followed by Spike and Cera. When he was right beside Ducky, she raised her cupped hands to Chomper's head and let the water trickle from her hands. The cool water did the trick and it caused Chomper to start waking up. When he opened his eyes he saw four faces looking down on him and he asked, "What's going on?"
"You okay, kid?" Cera asked him as Petrie set him down. When he was on his feet Chomper shrugged and said, "I guess so."
"You nearly died." Spike bluntly said. The other three looked to him and said in unison, "Spike!"
"What?" Spike asked, oblivious to how insensitive he was being. Ducky shook her head before turning to Chomper and said while gesturing with her head to Spike, "You'll have to excuse my brother. He's a little slow sometimes."
"It's okay." Chomper said, not feeling too bad about it. She then said, "My name is Ducky." Then gesturing to the Spiketail again she said, "This is Spike." Then looking to the Threehorn she said, "This is Cera." Petrie moved next to Cera as Ducky said, "And this is Petrie."
"Nice to meet you all." Chomper glumly said as he moved around them. Even though he didn't look back he said, "Thanks for your help."
"Hey, where are you going?" Spike asked in confusion. Chomper shrugged as he said, "Nowhere."
The four friends watched as he walked away with his head hanging. Cera then said, "Gee, he sure looks blue."
Spike made a quick observation before saying, "I'd say he's got more of a dual purple coloring."
"I mean he's depressed." Cera deadpanned at the Spiketail. He then knew what she meant with a sheepish grin, "Oh, right."
All four of them quickly ran after the saddened sharptooth and Spike asked, "Hey, what's eating you, little friend?"
"Nothing." Petrie said as the other four sat down. Then he made a joke while holding his hand high, "He at top of food chain."
The Flier started to laugh from his joke and clutched his sides. He continued to laugh as he lightly jabbed his elbow into Cera's side. None of the others found it funny as Cera looked at the Flier with a glare when he said, "The food chain!"
Petrie then looked and noticed Cera's stink eye at him. He coughed to stop laughing and sheepishly smiled as he said, "Uh, me finished."
Ducky shook her head with a sigh before looking to Chomper and asked, "So, where are you from?"
"Who cares?" Chomper said as he got up and started to walk again. Then he added, "I can't go back."
"Hold on there." Cera said before grabbing Chomper's tail with her mouth and pulling him back. Chomper grunted as he fell back on his rump and looked up to Cera as she said, "You can't just be wandering around on your own. Plus, you nearly died out there and we just saved you."
"Easy, Cera." Spike said, trying to calm his friend down. Ducky then placed a comforting hand on his shoulder before asking, "Is something wrong?"
"Only that I've had to get out and I can never go back." Chomper said as he looked down. Petrie then said, "Well, you welcome to stay here?"
"Well…" Chomper said, not thinking that it was such a good idea. Cera then came closer and asked, "What did you do?"
"Something terrible." Chomper glumly said. He shook his head as he said, "But I don't want to talk about it."
"Well, if you don't want to tell us, then we won't make you." Ducky promised. Then she looked to the yellow Threehorn and said, "Right, Cera?"
Cera huffed and said, "Fine."
"Can we help?" Petrie asked Chomper. He felt low as he said, "Not unless you can change the past."
"You know, little buddy, in times like these," Spike started to say, "Cera here says," it makes the Threehorn smile as the Spiketail recited while sitting down, "You gotta put your behind in your past."
Cera, Petrie and Ducky all groaned at his mess up. Cera then shook her head and she said, "No, no, no."
"Oh, uh, I mean…" Spike said to fix his mistake. But Cera didn't let him as she said, "Amateur." She moved between Chomper and Spike while Petrie and Ducky put a comforting hand on Spike's shoulder. His adoptive sister then said, "Just let Cera take this one."
Spike slumped his shoulders a bit as Cera told Chomper, "It's more of 'you got to put your past behind you' and not think about it anymore." This made Chomper a little confused as Cera then said, "Look, bad things are gonna happen, and there's nothing you can do about it, right?"
"Right." Chomper agreed. Cera pressed her snout against his and said, "Wrong! Very wrong." She backed up and then said, "When the world turns its back on you," She gave him a smug grin as she said, "you turn your back on the world."
"Well, that's not what I was taught." Chomper said with a shake of his head, not feeling any different. Cera looked between her and the other three with a smile. Spike came up and suggested, "Then maybe it's time you got a new lesson. Here, repeat after me." Then clearing his throat, Spike said with a smile, "Hakuna Matata."
"What?" Chomper asked, becoming really confused. Petrie then said the word slowly, "Ha-ku-na Ma-ta-ta."
"Yeah." Ducky said, pushing Petrie to the ground. She sounded really happy as she said, "It means 'no worries.'"
All four of the friends felt totally at ease as the ancient spirits started to play a cheerful melody. Cera looked really relaxed as she sang…
Cera: Hakuna Matata
What a wonderful phrase
Ducky jumped in with a big grin…
Ducky: Hakuna Matata
Ain't no passing craze
Petrie flapped in and grabbed Chomper by the shoulders as they all moved back to the trees. He looked down at Chomper as the sharptooth cub looked up and Petrie sang…
Petrie: It means no worries
For rest of days
When they had come deep enough into the forest, Petrie let Chomper go and the young dinosaur landed on Spike's back. The Spiketail glanced back as he started as well with the others…
Spike, Petrie, Ducky and Cera: It's our problem-free philosophy
Spike lowered his head to let Chomper slid onto the ground. Ducky picked him up and placed him against a bush. It was accessorized with some rocks to make it look like a throne. Petrie placed a crown of flowers on Chomper's head while Cera and Spike fanned him with leaves. Ducky used a piece of bark to file down one of his claws. Spike dropped his leaf as he sang…
Spike: Hakuna Matata
"Hakuna Matata?" Chomper asked, as he was still confused by the phrase. Spike nodded and said, "Yeah. It's our motto."
"What's a motto?" The Big Biter cub asked, not knowing the word. Ducky wrapped an arm around him and joked by saying, "Nothing. What's-a-motto with you?"
Three of the four friends laughed with this joke while Petrie just huffed. But as they kept laughing he started to chuckle a bit too. Spike then told Chomper, "You know, little buddy, these two words will solve all your problems."
"He's right. Yep, yep, yep." Ducky nodded. Petrie then said, "We all had troubles, but then…" Cera finished by saying, "But once we started living the Hakuna Matata lifestyle it got better for all of us."
"And we don't have to worry about-" Spike started to say. He was cut off when Cera said with a slight glare, "Don't even think about it."
Spike nodded sheepishly as Ducky then said, "You do need to think of what you say in front of the kids."
"Oh, sorry." Spike said, breaking the fourth wall in the process. This made Chomper confused as he too looked to the audience. It didn't stop the four friends as they started singing again while Spike sat on a swing like vine and the others hoisted him up…
Spike, Cera, Petrie and Ducky: Hakuna Matata
What a wonderful phrase
Chomper watched as Spike was pulled higher into the air. Then maneuvering to where he hung on with his back legs, the Spiketail then started swinging like an acrobat and caught Ducky's outstretched hands as they all sang…
Cera, Ducky, Petrie and Spike: Hakuna Matata
Ain't no passing craze
The three on the ground watched Spike and Ducky as they swung about and started doing different poses as they went by. Chomper started to feel the groove and started dancing a little before joining in…
Chomper: It means no worries
For the rest of your days
Petrie pulled the little sharptooth in a hug and said, "Yay! Sing it!"
"You got it, little guy." Cera said as she lightly nudged him with his tail. Ducky landed and came up to them in vaudeville knee-slide fashion next to the three and they looked to each other with smiles.
Chomper, Petrie, Cera and Ducky: It's our problem-free
Spike fell down next to them with what sounded like a fart, hopefully not, and he joined in…
Spike: Philosophy
All five dinosaurs pressed into each other as they all harmonized together…
All Five Friends: Hakuna Matata
The four friends led Chomper deeper into the valley. At a huge leaf, Ducky and Petrie moved it out of the way to show Chomper and Cera said, "Welcome to our humble home."
Petrie jumped when Spike suddenly chomped down on the leaf. Chomper became awestruck about the valley. It was a beautiful place, with tall hills and trees could be seen everywhere, taller mountains both in and outside of the valley. Beautiful waterfalls fell from the mountains and conjoined into a wide river that ran through it all. Chomper looked to the four and asked, "You all live here?"
"We live where ever we want to." Cera proudly said with a smile. Spike chuckled before saying, "Yep. Home is where your rump rests."
"It's very beautiful." Chomper said when he started to look at it again.
Soon the five started to walk through the valley's forests. Ducky looked to their new friend and asked, "By the way, we never got your name. Oh, no, no, no."
"My name is Chomper." He said when Spike let out a huge belch. They others looked to him and he said, "I'm starved."
"Now that you mention it," Chomper said as he too began to feel hungry, "I'm starting to get hungry as well."
The four looked to him with nervous glances which he noticed. Then he said, "Uh, hey. What about that?"
They all looked to where he was pointing and saw a moss covered, fallen log. Cera then looked to Chomper with a questioning look and asked, "What? Are you going to do? Eat the wood?"
"No." Chomper said as he walked over to it. Then he tried to push the log away, but found it a little heavy. Looking back he asked, "A little help, please?"
The four walked over and helped to push the log out of the way. When it was moved, the four looked down to see a bunch of creepy crawlies moving around. Cera looked to him and said, "If they keep you from eating us, then I'm all for it."
"Cera." The other three said. She rolled her eyes as Chomper started to look about the creepy crawlies. He saw a red grub and picked it up with his hand. Then looking to the others Chomper said, "Well, Hakuna Matata."
Then sticking the grub's head into his mouth Chomper slurped the rest of it down. He swallowed it down in one gulp and smacked his lips. After a moment to ponder the taste, Chomper then said, "Slimy, yet satisfying."
"If you say so." Cera said with a shrug as the rest of the creepy crawlies either crawled or flew away.
Time flew by as the five friends spent a lot of time together. They spent their carefree lives just doing things together. They filled their days with eating, sleeping, swimming, playing and doing it all over again. Their favorite pass time was walking over a few really long logs. As the years passed, Chomper grew bigger and bigger while he spent time with the Flier, the Threehorn, the Big Mouth Swimmer and the Spiketail. Then one day, as they were cruising around the forest, the four older dinosaurs tossed their heads as they began to sing again…
Petrie, Ducky, Spike and Cera: Hakuna Matata
Hakuna Matata
Hakuna Matata
Hakun…
Chomper came up behind them, now taller than all of his friends. Everything about him got either bigger or longer as he got a whole lot bigger. His back turned a darker shade of purple and his teeth looked a little scarier. But after living with him for a while, they knew they didn't have to worry. He had a great big smile as he sang with his adult voice…
Chomper: It means no worries
For the rest of your days
The five friends pressed up against each other as they harmonized together…
Chomper, Petrie, Cera, Ducky and Spike: It's our problem-free
Philosophy
Hakuna Matata
The five friends walked over to a cliff overlooking a pond. Petrie was the first to run to a log that overlooked the pond. When he was at the edge he jumped before doing a swan dive. When Petrie landed he created a big yet small splash.
Hakuna Matata
Cera was next as she ran up to the edge. She jumped off and did a belly flop to the water below. Cera's landing created a large splash that caused Petrie to be dunked by a wave.
Hakuna Matata
Ducky and Spike went at the same time. The Big Mouth Swimmer rode on the Spiketail's back as he ran to the edge. When he was close Ducky jumped off and did a spin before doing a cannonball. The Big Mouth Swimmer was able to move out of the way when Spike landed in the water with a splash much bigger than Cera's.
Hakuna Matata
Chomper was the last to go as he ran up to the edge. He saw a vine not too far from the log. He jumped and caught the vine with his teeth and started to swing out. But when he was over the water, the vine broke from the strain and she fell into the water. The splash he made was strong enough to send the four, with Petrie and Ducky using Cera and Spike's bellies as surfboards to the shore.
Hakuna Matata
Chomper swam to the shore and joined his four friends on the sand. Standing next to them, Chomper started to shake the water of him and onto the others, "Brrrrrr!"
Hakuna Matata
The four looked to him with slight glares and Chomper gave a sheepish grin. The purple sharptooth moved out of the way when Petrie and Ducky tried to tackle into him, but was caught off guard when Cera used her shoulder to knock the bigger dinosaur onto his back. The other three quickly acted and they all dog piled the sharptooth. They started to laugh from their fun and the four let Chomper onto his feet. When they were all standing, they started to walk away into the forest while dancing to the beat.
Ta-ta
They all had a good time as they disappeared into the trees.

Author's Note: I know that this one was a lot different to the other Hakuna Matata lifestyles, but I felt that it was the right call to make. And on a happier note, the Sharptooth King story is getting closer to being completed. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
