Writer's Note:
Inspired by DeviantArt user Adiraiju's Sonic boss novelizations, I have decided to put together a little story that slightly novelizes the final boss of The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild where Link does battle with Calamity Ganon.
Trying to memorize the dialogue, the cutscenes and how the boss went down will be difficult, but I am giving this a shot and this is my take on the final battle of BoTW. I confess to having a slightly bad memory, plus I have a kinda sorta bad case of writer's block.
I don't own The Legend of Zelda series, concepts and characters. Credit goes to Nintendo.
He stood in the dark-red metallic chamber, watching as the cloud of Ganon's malice ascended through the ceiling until it vanished and he was alone in the room. Link felt warmth surrounding his body, then he noticed the gold light envelope him.
The next thing the hero knew, he was standing in Hyrule Field outside the castle ruins, next to his own horse. He looked up to see a stream of malice fly over. And then...
Ganon... Link heard the voice as he watched the wisps of Calamity malice fly over and turned to see the swirling cloud of malice close by, not unlike the malice cloud surrounding Hyrule Castle before he confronted Ganon. "Ganon..." Zelda's voice spoke again.
"Ganon."
"I hear you Zelda." The hero replied, watching a dark shape form in the mist.
"Ganon was born out of a dark past." Zelda warned, "He is the reincarnation of the ancient evil that has plagued Hyrule time and time again. He has given up on reincarnation and assumed his pure, enraged form."
As the dark mist parted, Link beheld the monstrosity standing before him, eyes gleaming pink-purple, tusks protruding from the mouth, covered in malice and consumed with rage. Ganon had taken on the form of a humongous, pig-like demonic beast.
"If unleashed upon our world," Zelda continued, the beast stomped the ground as she did so and the Earth shook, "The destruction will be unlike anything ever seen before." Prepared for what was to come, but unsure, Link climbed onto the steed of his faithful horse Epona.
Just as he finished mounting the horse, Link heard a shimmering noise and looked up to see a glowing light and, from it, a golden bow and arrow descended as if from the heavens and he took it up in his hands.
"I entrust you with the Bow of Light." Zelda said, "A powerful weapon in the face of evil. Link, you may be at a point where you have not yet recovered your power or all of your memories. But courage need not be remembered, do what you must, Link."
The roaring, malice monster that was Calamity Ganon opened its maw and dark purple energy shot forth from his mouth, not unlike a bigger version of a Guardian's laser beam. Link struck Epona's steed and galoped out of the way just in time.
"I am using my power to hold Ganon's malice at bay, attack any points you see." Zelda instructed, as the monstrous being attempted to attack Link, the wielder of courage galloped around him on horseback, bow ready.
"Now, Link!" The voice came again. Glowing Triforce symbols appeared on Ganon's side over the legs, time slowed down as Link took aim, breathing slowly as he fired off a few shots. The first volley missed, but the next volley struck home, hitting the glowing spots.
Ganon howled in pain and staggered around, knocking over trees and nearly flattened both Link and Epona had they not gotten out of the way in time. Zelda's voice encouraged the hero on, while grunting, indicated that the struggle had put a slight strain on her.
Link galloped around the Demon King just as more glowing spots appeared on his side, the princess urged the hero to attack again and so Link did, taking aim and opening fire with the Light Arrows which made Ganon bellow in agony again.
The beast fired more energy blasts from its mouth, burning grass, setting most of the field ablaze and burning down trees. Its eyes blazed with more rage and Zelda cried out to Link, begging for him to help her, "I don't think I can hold on much longer. Ugh, NOW LINK!"
A glowing Triforce symbol appeared beneath Ganon's belly and Link noticed, well aware that there was the risk of the malice covered beast crushing him and Epona beneath himself. Yet he had no choice, he couldn't let his princess down.
Up above, the sky seemed to turn red like on Blood Moon night, yet this was not the night of the Blood Moon. It was daytime and the Blood Moon had risen a few nights prior, this was the power of Calamity Ganon affecting the world.
Ready to run the risk, he struck the saddle and Epona charged between the legs of the beast and right under Ganon, Link taking aim and fired on the glowing spot. They got out of there in the nick of time as the beast crouched, howling in pain.
"Link!" Zelda's voice called, "We almost got it. Look, look up." As Link circled around Ganon, he looked up to see a huge glowing eyeball open up on Ganon's forehead. He attempted to blast it with a light arrow, but it closed soon as he fired.
"LINK!" The princess called out, "Use Ganon's attacks to your advantage." The beast roared, mouth aglow with power as it breathed more of that horrible malice fire. Link, who wondered what Zelda meant, got out of the way.
Looking at the burnt spot of grassy field with purple flames closer, the hero noticed a gust of wind created by the malice fire and then he looked at the roaring, angry beast. It clicked, he'd done this sort of thing before... with RAVALI'S GALE!
Plus, whenever he was free-falling and attacking enemies, Link had drawn his bow and fired from above which had gotten results. This may just work, Zelda had obviously somehow seen it and was suggesting the idea to him now.
Climbing off Epona, Link made a mad dash to the burning spot and jumped up, bringing out the paraglider and hoping it would work, only for the wind to blow out the flames. Link jumped aside to avoid getting blasted by Ganon's beam of doom.
Quickly thinking fast, he called on Ravali's Gale, the last bit of Ravali's spirit energy left and took to the air, paraglider out and over his head. Link waited until he was up high enough and then he drew the light arrow, aiming at the open eye in Ganon's head.
Link notched the Light Arrow, letting loose and fired. The arrow flew and, as Link watched while descending, it went right through the eye and it exploded in an explosive puff of dark-red blood (malice) and evil energy.
Calamity Ganon howled in full agony, staggering and writhing in pain, weakened by the Light Arrows. The beast screamed even more when something surrounded by a glowing light burst out of him, it was Princess Zelda, using the power of the Triforce.
She hadn't changed since Link last saw her a hundred years prior, even when he remembered her, she was still gorgeous with long blonde hair and blue eyes and wearing a sleeveless dress highlighting her teenage figure along with sandals.
The princess descended to the ground, opening her eyes and looking up at the mass of malice in front of her. A huge cloud of malice surrounded Ganon as he transformed back into the hideous mass that had encircled Hyrule Castle.
Roaring like the monster it was, Calamity Ganon took flight but Zelda raised her hand and utilized her power as an orb of light encompassed most of the area and Calamity Ganon couldn't escape, all it could do was roar as the light consumed it, sealing the creature away.
The light faded along with the Triforce symbol that had appeared, Zelda relaxed and Link put away his weapons, approaching her slowly. "I-I've been watching you this whole time," She said, "As well as witnessing your trials in battle.
"I've always thought... No, I've always believed that you would find a way to defeat Ganon. Thank you Link. The hero of Hyrule." Zelda turned and Link faced her, hero and princess looking into each others eyes. "May I ask...?" The princess asked, "Do you still remember me?"
The End
