After tying up their "guest", the trio relaxed a bit. Not only could this stranger wield a Keyblade, but he also seemed to target Kairi. The action reminded them of Xemnas and Ansem the Seeker of Darkness. Even his eyes were the same as the two villains, for a little bit.
Riku glared at the boy. His mind was working on overdrive. There were just too many questions. But they weren't going to get any answers.
Sora and Kairi sat on the opposite wall from the boy. Kairi was still a little shaken up after what had happened. Sora was doing his best to comfort her. He had an arm around her shoulder as she rested on him.
Everyone jumped when the boy groaned. He looked more confused than before. When he moved, they could tell he was scared. He struggled again the ropes that held him.
"It's no use," Riku said, summoning Way to Dawn. "We tied you to keep you from hurting anyone."
"Hurt anyone?" The boy looked to be more confused. "I wouldn't hurt anyone. All I remember was meeting Kairi. After that, it's blank."
"So, you don't remember using a Keyblade?" Riku asked angrily. "The one you used to attack Kairi?"
"A Keyblade? Attack!?"
The boy's eyes grew wide, before he let out a blood curdling scream. He couldn't claw at his head, due to his bonds. Tears streamed down the screaming boys face. He thrashed around as the scream intensified.
"What now!?" Sora screamed over the boy.
"This," Riku said. He used the guard of his Keyblade to knock the screaming boy out. "There, that solves one problem. But we still have no answers."
"That hurt," the boy graoned. "Why do I keep getting hurt?" He looked up with tears in his eyes. "I didn't mean to hurt anyone. I promise not to hurt anyone anymore."
"He's being honest," Namine appeared next to Kairi. Roxas appeared next to Sora as she continued, "There is something inside of him. Actually, two somethings. Two separate chains intertwined."
"Two chains?" the boy asked.
"That's how Namine speaks," Roxas said. "She has an ability that allows her to see the memories of those connected to Sora. Since you're his friend now, you are connected to him."
"But how are there two?" Riku asked. "There is usually one in each person."
"The chains represent that person's memories," Namine explained. "Him having two is almost like he is two people."
"Which explains the change in personality," Sora pointed out. "After he summoned his Keyblade, he changed into a killer. But right now, he's scared."
The boy looked between the group with teary eyes. He was looking as if he was trying to piece things together. He looked at Kairi, with innocence.
"I'm sorry," he whispered, "There are a few memories I regained. One of them was the start of my training. Another was about my name. I still don't remember it, but I was told it means 'Darkness'. Just like my Keyblade is called Ninja's Darkness."
"That's interesting," Riku said, dismissing his Keyblade. "So, we got a few answers. But not enough."
"I'm sorry," the boy said, lowering his head. "I think one of my memories was of me killing innocents. I don't want to do it again."
"We should trust him," Kairi said. "If anything else happens," Kairi summoned her Keyblade, Destiny's Embrace, "I'll fight back, just like I did with Xemnas."
"All you did was swing your Keyblade at the Heartless," Sora said with a laugh, "Last I remember, you missed quite a few."
The comment earned him a smack with her Keyblade. As well as continual hits until he submitted. The two blondes and the silverette started laughing. The boy started laughing slowly. As the hits continued, his laughter caused everyone to look at him.
"He sounds so innocent," Roxas said. "How can he be the same one who attacked Kairi?"
Kairi dismissed her Keyblade and giggled at the boy. Sora, though in pain, laughed as well. Riku just smiled as everyone's mood lightened.
Riku decided to get everyone's attention. "Hey. Since we can't call you boy, how about we give you a name?"
"A name?" the boy asked, sitting up.
Riku walked over to the boy and undid the rope. "Yeah, a name. Mine means 'Land'. Sora's means 'Sky'. And Kairi's means 'Sea'. You said your name means 'Darkness'?" The boy nodded. "How about Kurai? It means 'Dark'. And with all the black you are wearing, it fits."
"Kurai?" the boy whispered. He smiled brightly at Riku. "My name is Kurai."
Riku stood in front of him and held out his hand. Sora stood next to him and Kairi stood next to Sora. All three Islanders had their hands held out.
"I'm Riku."
"Sora, nice to meet ya."
"I'm Kairi."
Kurai smiled. "It's nice to meet you everyone. I'm Kurai, a Keyblade Apprentice." ~~~~~
After getting his new name, Kurai had explored the island. The Destiny Island trio explained how their World was. Kurai was surprised he was washed ashore their play island. He wondered what people would have said if they saw him on the main island.
"Surprisingly," Riku said during a tour of the island. The group had gone into the Secret Place. They stood in front of the old Keyhole. "This island held the Heart of our World. None of us knew it then, but our lives changed because of that door."
"I have a question," Kurai asked, getting everyone's attention. "Each of you have a Keyblade? And one of you had to have sealed the Keyhole. So how did you each get your Keyblades?"
Each of the other Wielders looked shocked. Kurai's question was one they seemed unsure how to answer. Kurai looked at each of them confused.
"I only ask," Kurai continued, "Because a memory I regained was of my Master. He said the Keyblade chooses its master but uses another Wielder as it's medium. So, a Master passes on the ability to wield a Keyblade to their pupil. I received mine from my Master."
"I don't know how I got the ability to use mine," Kairi said.
"Mine just came to me before I left the island," Sora said.
Riku was the only one that kept silent. Kurai looked at him innocently. The newcomer tilted his head at the silverette. Kurai felt like there was something familiar about the older boy. Like a friend long lost.
"I promised I wouldn't say," Riku finally said. "If I do, I may lose m Keyblade. I'm sorry."
Kurai shook his head with a smile. "It's okay. I shouldn't have asked. Sometimes it's best not to reveal your Master. But Sora and Kairi both don't have a Master. So, how did you guys inherit the abilities to use your Keyblades?"
"We don't know," they said in unison.
Kurai started to laugh. Which caused the others to join in. When they calmed down, they left the Secret Place. The sun was setting when they left. Riku was the first to notice.
"We have to leave," he pointed out. "Kurai, for now, you'll have to stay here. No one from the main island knows you're here. So, we'll get you some clothes and food tomorrow. Until then, there are coconuts in the trees and fish in the ocean. There are also a few freshwater streams."
"We'll be back tomorrow," Sora said as the trio left.
They waved as they got on their boats. Kurai waved back as they rowed away.
He decided to walk around the island a little more before the sun set. Since he saw the entire island, he had nothing to explore. There was a feeling of nostalgia about this place.
Kurai headed to the treehouse to get some rest. He grabbed the cloth hanging from the wall. It wasn't much, but it was something.
"My how pathetic, Tenebrae."
The new voice shocked Kurai. He turned quickly to find a confusing sight. Behind him in the doorway was… SORA!? Kurai shook his head. The boy in front of him looked just like Sora but wasn't. In place of brown hair, it was jet black. His normal blue eyes were a shocking gold. The boy wore a full body battle suit.
"To think one of his pieces could be more pathetic than my other half. Of course, most humans are pathetic." The look alike laughed.
"Who are you?" Kurai asked, scared. He was ready to summon his Keyblade.
"Oh, you don't remember me?" the look alike feigned being hurt. "And here I thought we were buddies. Then again, you did get your memories wiped."
Kurai's eyes grew in shock. He was surprised someone knew who he was. But how was the question. He needed more information.
"I'm sorry, but you have the wrong person. My name is Kurai. And even though it's true I lost my memories; I'm getting them back."
"I see," the look alike laughed. "Well then, I hope you get it all back soon. We have big plans, and we'll need all Thirteen ready. Don't turn your back on the Darkness."
With those parting words, the Sora look alike disappeared in a plume of darkness. Kurai stared at the spot he occupied, trying to piece everything together. He shook his head and got ready for bed.
'I'll worry about it another time,' he thought as he laid down and drifted to sleep. *****
A new name, a new friend? How will he handle all the new information?
Guess we'll find out next time, everyone!
