Chapter 1.

Kyra

She moved like a feral cat. Her slender athletic body danced around the others with ease. While they all held the usual red lightsaber, hers was a double-bladed bright purple, which gave her long raven hair a beautiful dark purple glow. She twisted and turned and jumped over one of the trainees and got him down on his stomach on the cold hard floor of the training room. When he hit the floor, the man gave a grumbled cry and stayed down. Suddenly, another trainee jumped up behind her and was aiming at the back of her head. While the trainee was in mid-air, the raven-haired beauty quick as lightning turned around, and force pushed her to the other side of the room, where she laid crumpled at the back wall.

Then two more trainees came at her fast-paced on both sides.

Deftly, she sidestepped the one on the left, then using the Force, she forced him down on his knees and smacked the end of her lightsaber to his right temple. The other one was almost on top of her, barely missing her nose with his training saber when she swiftly spun around and smashed her elbowed into his face. Immediately he fell down cradling his battered complexion. She then did a double backflip and then landed smoothly on her feet, barely making a sound on the marble floor.

And that is when she looked up and saw the stranger standing with Master on the balcony above the training room.

His burning gaze was staring into her dark green eyes with utter curiosity and something else that she could not comprehend at that moment. Is he trying to read my mind? She thought he could try, but it would be futile because nobody could read her mind, even Master had a hard time understanding her sometimes and he was definitely someone who loved to probe into other's minds. She was a powerful force-sensitive Grey. She was unique in her way.

The tall dark cloaked figure exchanged a couple of words with her Master, then he turned and left. Then Kyra's attention turned to her Master, and then he beckoned her to come up. With fast-paced steps, she was at his feet bowing down. Her double-bladed lightsaber clipped at the back of her belt.

"Oh, my faithful and only Kyra!" Master exclaimed in a raspy, deep voice.

"I see your training has gotten better since the last time." He said. "I always wondered which side you are using while you battering up the young recruits? The Light? The Dark? You are always an enigma for me, my faithful Kyra." He said looking at the young woman at his feet.

She looked up, her eyes met his, and then she said: "It depends."

With a sly grin, she added. "I could be both at the same time or just one, if I chose to, it depends on the mood I have that day, my Master."

Master let out a small chuckle and then gestured for her to stand up.

Standing at an eye level with him, Kyra looked into his dark, empty eyes, where the light had died a long time ago. However, this did not bother her. She was a child of both, the Light and the Dark. She was neither a Sith apprentice nor a Jedi, rather a faithful follower of the Force itself. She did not make a difference between the sides. To her, they were all the same keeping her in perfect balance. She always thought that only the Force existed, one unit, instead of two separate chambers of the same thing.

But there were some who thought otherwise. Like her Master. He believed that the Dark side was stronger and bolder than the Light side. He cherished the thought that the Dark side would prevail and eventually the Light will turn to the Dark or be destroyed by it.

But Kyra did not want to argue about such matters like these, especially with Master, so she stayed quiet and kept it for herself.

She followed him into his grandiose chamber, where the walls reached fifteen feet high with huge windows that were looking out into the planet Kish. It was getting darker outside; the three moons are already visible at the edge of the sky.

"I have acquired a new apprentice." Master said looking out the window. Then he added with a shrewd smile. "He will be my new right hand, a Sith lord who would do my biddings from now on. He is well trained and a true dark side user."

Kyra tried to dismiss his emphasis on the word "true", but she knew very well what he meant by saying that.

"His ruthlessness is one of his unique trademarks, which I really appreciate". Master added. Then he turned around and looked at her. "I have a very important mission for him and for you, Kyra."

"For me, Master?" She asked feeling puzzled.

"Yes." He answered. "For you and for my new apprentice, Darth Maul".

A small frown appeared on Kyra's face looking at her Master. This was new to her. All her life she was kept here, but now he was sending her away with this new apprentice called Darth Maul.

"What kind of mission, my Master?" She inquired.

"This mission, when it goes all that is planned, will be my future and my retribution." He said, and then a thin smile appeared on the corner of his pale lips.

"Be ready by dawn. Darth Maul will inform you about the mission." He added as he dismissed her and then turning his back at her. he gazed out the window again, where now the three moons glowed higher in the dark sky.

"As you wish, Master." Kyra bowed and left the chamber at once. She wished to ask him more about this mission, but over the years, Kyra learned it was best not to question him.

On her way to her room, her thoughts were in turmoil. She really wanted to know where and why she was sent away, and on top of that, her apprehension rose when she thought about the dark lord, Darth Maul. She did not know him or known of him until now, and that bothered her. She just hoped that this mission would go well and she'll be back in no time.
