Okay, so a lot has changed since I last got on . First things first, this isn't a continuous story. Instead, it is a compilation of one-shots of different PPG x RRB ships. This includes counterparts and mixed couples. They might be platonic and they might be romantic. Some are up to you to decide. So, now that that is out of the way, here's the first one-shot.
"Do you want to dance?"
Blossom looked up from her empty cup to find a familiar set of blue eyes looking at her, with a shy grin to match. She glanced down at the hand he held out, calluses so defined she could probably see them from the other side of the room. Looking back up at him, she noticed that his blond bangs were sticking to his forehead, sweat dripping down the sides of his face. She could smell the beer on him as well.
"Is this some sort of joke, Boomer?" He tilted his head to the side, resembling a puppy. A dent formed in the middle of his forehead as he pouted. Yeah, he definitely looked like a puppy.
"I'm just asking you to dance," He shrugged, keeping his hand outstretched. "I promise I don't have anything up my sleeve. I'm not even wearing any sleeves."
Technically, that was incorrect as he did have on a short-sleeved jersey. But she didn't expect him to understand that.
"Why are you asking me to dance anyway?" She gestured at herself, before continuing. "We're not exactly friends. And you're a Rowdyruff Boy for crying out loud."
Another shrug. "I know. But you look like you could use some fun."
She leaned back, eyebrows furrowing as she debated if this was an insult or not. Then again, she had a feeling it wasn't. It wasn't the first time someone told her those exact same words. The whole reason she came to this party was that Robin said the same thing to her.
But even though she was at the party, it was hard for her to have fun. She wasn't as sociable as Bubbles and she wasn't as daring as Buttercup. The three had come to the party together, but within a second, Bubbles was dancing in the living room with her cheerleading friends and Buttercup was playing beer pong with Mitch and the others. Meanwhile, Blossom had awkwardly made her way to the couch, refusing to move from the seat even as some couple made out next to her. Robin had tried to keep her company but, since this was her party anyway, she had to entertain the other guests. Including the Rowdyruff Boys.
Even though the trio hadn't caused much trouble since their middle school days, Blossom kept herself occupied keeping an eye on them. Which ended up being pointless. Butch had joined Buttercup at the beer pong table and the two started up a game of truth or dare with a few other partygoers. Brick wasn't doing much except flirting with a bunch of the lovesick fangirls that had a thing for "bad boys". And Boomer had joined Bubbles in the living room, singing along to the songs with the other partygoers as backup. Even they knew how to have fun.
But now, Boomer was standing in front of her, sweat dripping down his forehead and a dazzling grin on his face, and she thought for a second. Maybe she could have fun.
"Okay," She took his hand, palm just as sweaty as his face, and pulled herself off of the couch. Boomer led her to the middle of the living room as an 80s-inspired song came on the speakers.
He turned around to face her, blue eyes resembling the starry night. Grabbing her other hand, he led her into an off-beat dance. Fitting, she thought to herself. Blossom blushed as she tried to follow his movements, feeling the eyes of the other teenagers on the back of her head. She tried not to think about their opinions, but she couldn't help it.
They probably think I'm a terrible dancer, she thought to herself. How can she have superpowers and barely dance? So she can fight off monsters but she's this stiff when she's dancing? Some Powerpuff she is.
Blossom nearly tripped as Boomer pulled her closer to him, their chests a mere two inches away from each other. He leaned down, his breath tickling her ear. The mixture of beer and Axe body spray wasn't as appalling as Blossom thought it was going to be. Didn't mean it was a nice smell either.
"Just have fun with it," Easy for you to say, she wanted to respond, but for some reason, the words were stuck in her throat as she realized something. There was no reason for him to whisper in her ear. They had super hearing. Before she could say something about that, he pulled back and flashed her another dazzling smile as he dropped her hands.
Blossom's eyes widened as Boomer started doing some sort of dance solo. If you can call it that. What it looked like to Blossom was just a series of arms flailing around and hips gyrating like one of those inflatable tubes at car dealerships. But the determined look on Boomer's face along with the terrible dance moves managed to crack a smile out of her. Followed by a chuckle. Then a snort. And finally, laughter flowed out of her as Boomer attempted to...twerk?
She could barely control her laughter, tears forming on the sides of her eyes as she tried to muffle herself with her hands. The others were laughing as well, but Boomer kept his eyes on the red-haired Puff in front of him.
"Come on, do it with me," Boomer's voice sounded like a bell as he gestured for Blossom to follow along with him. Instead, she shook her head, eyes shining with happiness as she watched him instead.
Shrugging internally, Boomer continued his performance.
After about an hour of watching Boomer sing and dance along to multiple songs, including Cardi B's "WAP", Blossom was now sitting in the backyard. She looked up at the sky, chuckling to herself at the memory of it. It's not surprising that he could do a split, she knew that he was flexible from when they used to fight. Then again, that was a few years ago. Back when the Rowdyruff Boys and the Powerpuff Girls were sworn enemies.
You could barely consider them enemies at that point. Once the Rowdyruff Boys started attending elementary school, the six barely fought. The brothers just committed petty crimes, well for them at least. Breaking and entering, graffiti, and stealing. The trio had calmed down a lot since their preteens. Now, Buttercup and Butch were basically best friends, same with Bubbles and Boomer. Even Brick interacted with the two of them from time to time. Blossom was the only one that didn't talk much with them. She and Brick continued to get into arguments in their AP classes, but none of them bordered on physical violence. Butch had tried to flirt with her before, but he gave up when he figured out she wasn't going to return his affections. Boomer only spoke to her a handful of times, which mostly consisted of him asking her for a pen.
"Look, it's a shooting star!" She jumped as she heard the blond boy's voice behind her. Turning around, she noticed that he had pulled his jersey off of his body, instead allowing it to hang around his neck. Before she could tell him to put it back on, he pointed up to the sky.
"Make a wish!" He told her and she rolled her eyes. What were they? Five?
"You know, it's just a meteoroid, it's not an actual-"
"Rules are rules. Make a wish."
Sighing, she closed her eyes. How bad could it be to entertain this? After a few seconds, she opened her eyes to find Boomer standing next to her, holding out a can of soda for her.
"Did you wish for a soda?" Blossom couldn't help but snort as she took the can out of his hand.
"No, but thank you," Instead of opening the can, she redirected her gaze onto the blond ruff next to her.
If she had to be honest, he was the most tolerable out of his brothers. Brick was arrogant, rude, and all in all, a jerk. She'd rather cut her hair off than have to sit in a room with just him for two hours. Butch was annoying, loud, and the personification of an energy drink. She didn't know how Buttercup could be friends with him. But Boomer, despite not being the brightest, didn't really bother anyone. While Brick and Butch have caused trouble on their own, Boomer only ever got in trouble when it involved the others.
Not that that made him better than them. But it did make a difference. Come to think of it, he was the closest to normal out of the three of them too. While Brick and Butch never took part in extracurriculars, Boomer was part of chorus and guitar club. She remembered when she went to the school's art festival, due to her duties as School President, and the shock when she realized that Boomer was actually talented at something other than causing trouble. And he had looked so pleased when the audience applauded, his smile like a puppy's.
"Are you going to keep staring at me or are you going to drink that?" Blossom snapped out of her thoughts, a blush creeping onto her face as she looked down at the can.
"Sorry, thank you," You already said that, she scolded herself.
"No problem, for the rest of the night, I'm your genie," Boomer swayed his body from left to right, wiggling his fingers in front of his face. "Boooooooooo."
She smiled, shaking her head at his silliness. "I'm pretty sure that's a ghost."
"What's the difference?" She thought of telling him, but she wasn't able to form words as she glanced up at him. The moon was shining behind him, illuminating him. His blond hair reminded her of sunflowers and his blue eyes seemed to match the night sky behind him. But the shine in them outshined the stars in the sky. The soft grin on his face seemed to pull her in too, almost like it was hypnotizing her. Despite that, she stayed rooted in her spot as she came to a realization. Boomer...was very pretty.
"Okay, this is getting weird-"
"Why are you being so nice to me?"
A pause. Why did I say that, Blossom thought to herself. She could have said anything else. Anything. But then again, it was a valid question. The two barely interacted in the past, why was he being so nice to her now? Not that he was rude to her before, but this was completely different.
"You looked like you could use a friend." She was about to argue until she realized, besides her sister, her only other friend was Robin. But another thought crossed her mind.
"You want to be friends with me?" It didn't make sense to her. What did the two of them have in common besides having superpowers?
He shrugged, the jersey brushing his ears. "You're not as bad as I thought. Not that you were bad. It's just, you were a Powerpuff Girl. Well, you are a Powerpuff Girl. You know, I thought we were supposed to be enemies forever. But Bubbles isn't bad. Neither is Buttercup. I mean, Brick complains about you all of the time, but he doesn't like anybody so he doesn't count. So I figured, why not?"
Another pause.
"Did that make sense?"
Blossom nodded, looking down at her feet. She understood what he was trying to say. Don't judge a book by its cover. And when she thought about it, Boomer wasn't as bad as she thought he was either. He's fun, talented, silly, and nicer than his brothers that's for sure. And Bubbles and Buttercup didn't have a problem with him, and she trusted her sisters' judgment more than others might think.
"If you don't want to be friends, that's cool," Boomer pushed his bangs out of his face, a shy grin on his face. He looked so different from the one dancing in the living room. She wondered what other sides of him there were.
"We could be friends," His smile was so infectious, she couldn't help but give him one as well. He held up a hand for her to high-five, which she did. The sweat on his hands wasn't unbearable.
The two stood in silence for a few seconds, Blossom finally opening her can and taking a sip while Boomer rocked back and forth on his heels.
"Does that mean you can do my homework for me now?" She knew he meant it as a joke, but she couldn't stop herself from giving him a stern glare.
"Okay, okay," He held up his hands in mock surrender. "How about tutoring? You teach me how to do school and I can teach you how to have fun."
She thought about correcting his grammar but decided against it. Besides, he gave her a tempting offer. She nodded and Boomer pumped his fist.
"Yeah, friendship!"
Blossom chuckled at his excitement, before taking another sip. Yeah. Friendship.
