I don't own The Queen's Gambit. It belongs to Netflix and the author.

"Chess isn't always competitive. Chess can also be beautiful."

For Beth Harmon chess was everything. She lived for the competition, longed for the safety she'd found in those sixty four black and white squares.

Night after night of studying chess moves. Night after night of playing games on the chess board she bought till bed where she played out games on her bedroom ceiling only made her fall in love with the game even more.

Beth never thought she'd find someone who loved chess as much as she did. Then she met the US champion Benny Watts. He was cocky, sure, but he could afford to be. A child prodigy much like herself means he knew just as she did that he was good at chess.

Benny both frustrated and intrigued her but she couldn't deny that he was her match in the game. His help before her match against Borgov in Paris meant alot to her but she still lost to the Russian grandmaster a second time. There was nothing Beth Harmon hated more then losing.

She faced Borgov a third time on his own turf and won. She didn't think she would have been able to do it had it not been for Benny, and Harry, and the twins Matt and Mike. Even Townes had helped in his own way.

"Beth Harmon?"

Currently Beth stood, surrounded by retired men who had all been playing chess when she was passing through. One had recognized her and stopped her. She smiled before sitting down across from the man who recognized her, taking off her gloves and lacing her fingers together.

She beat him in twenty eight moves. For the next couple of hours she played game after game for fun.

Yes.. She thought. This is what chess is supposed to be. Competitive, yes, but also fun and beautiful.

Soon Beth would have to leave Moscow and go back home to Kentucky, but for now she would enjoy herself.
