They looked into the next room. There was a burgundy red carpet on the floor. There were circles on the floor illuminated by some lights from the ceiling. Round spotlights.
"Do we step on the circles, or do we avoid them?" Roman asked.
Dean threw his gun on the nearest circle. Nothing happened. He sighed and looked at his flashlight. It was better to sacrifice a flashlight than a loaded gun. He threw his flashlight on the carpet on a spot that wasn't illuminated. A whistling sound was heard, and the flashlight was penetrated by a small arrow that had been shot from somewhere.
"We step on the circles," Dean said.
"Where the hell did that arrow come from?" Seth asked.
Roman and Seth shone their flashlights around and noticed a lot of small holes in all the walls.
"They fire from the walls. Each hole is probably connected with a different spot on the floor," Roman said.
"This is insane," Seth said.
"Everything about this house is insane," Roman said. "I'm starting to understand why there's only stories connected with this place. No one actually made it out of here to tell the real tale."
"We'll be the first ones. We gotta believe that," Seth said.
Roman sighed and nodded. They had to believe they would get out of there somehow.
"Alright, I'll go first and figure out a safe route through this room," Dean said.
Dean jumped over on the small circle his gun had landed on. He picked up the gun and threw it on the next circle to make sure it was safe too. He jumped to the next circle. Roman jumped out on the circle Dean had just left. They continued through the room like that at a slow pace. Dean picking up his gun and throwing it constantly until he made it to the next black panel.
"Open the fucking door!" Dean yelled.
The black panel slid up but the door behind it remained closed. Dean's palm was sweaty as he slowly moved it towards the door knob.
"Careful," Roman said.
"I know!" Dean growled. "Shut up for a second so I can think."
Dean didn't need to think. He just wanted some quiet. He was scared. He closed his hand around the door knob, screamed and fell backwards. He would have landed on the floor and been penetrated by arrows if it hadn't been for Roman somehow managing to step forward and catch him while placing a foot of his own on Dean's circle. Roman stood with a foot in each circle and helped Dean back up.
"What happened?" Seth asked.
"Electricity," Dean answered. "I wasn't prepared."
"How do we get out then?" Seth asked.
"I can do it. I will fucking do it," Dean answered.
"Hurry," Roman pleaded. "My feet are starting to slip. I'm not used to almost doing a split like this."
Dean quickly looked at Roman and saw how far apart his legs were. Roman had gone all out to save Dean. Dean now needed to save his two friends in return. Dean gritted his teeth, grabbed the door knob and turned it despite feeling electricity run through him.
The door opened and Dean jumped into the next room without looking around. He grabbed Roman's hand and dragged him to the next circle so that Roman could make the final jump on his own. Seth followed two seconds after.
"Fuck, that hurt," Dean said.
Roman shone his flashlight on Dean's hand. It was red from the electricity.
"Thank you," Roman said.
"You owe me a beer once we get out of here," Dean said.
"You'll drink free all night," Roman chuckled.
They looked around and found themselves in a small room with nothing in it. Not even a carpet. Everything was bare and in an ugly off white color. There were several black panels down. They could quickly cut out the two on one wall that were covering windows. There were three other panels covering doors.
"The maze turned into a labyrinth," Seth said.
"I never understood the difference," Dean said.
"A maze only has one direction. A labyrinth has many, and you have to find the right way through," Seth said.
"So which one if the right one?" Roman asked.
"Choose your path," Leatrice said.
All three men jumped in surprise by the sound of her voice. She hadn't spoken during the last two rooms and they had kinda forgotten about her.
"We'd like to see the rooms first," Seth said.
"Only the one you choose will open," Leatrice said.
"What happens if we choose one each?" Roman asked.
Roman quickly walked over to a panel. Seth and Dean followed and went to stand by the other two panels.
"Open them," Dean said.
Nothing happened. She didn't even speak. The three men waited in silence for ten long seconds.
"It won't work," Seth said. "We're playing by her rules."
"Damn it!" Dean muttered. "Which one is the right one then?"
"These two will probably lead further into the house," Roman said. "So I suggest we keep moving straight. The wall to our right has windows which means we're at the outer wall. Hopefully we'll reach a door out soon."
