It's short, it's not the best, I'm sure there are plenty of mistakes, but it was flowing around in my head and I just wanted to get it down. As usual, leave a comment, good or bad. Thank you for reading.

"Yeah, no, I'll be home soon. Yeah, I love you too." Sam said smiling into the phone. "Bye." She said hanging up the phone. She turned the corner, pausing as she saw him walking out of the shop. "Drew?"

Drew paused, staring at her, a small smile gracing his face, "Sam. Hey, how are you?" he asked walking towards her, giving her a hug.

Sam returned the hug, a small chuckle escaping her, "I'm great! God, I haven't seen you in—at least—what? A year or two now?"

"Yeah, two years and four months." He said teasingly with a bright smile as they both chuckled.

"What brings you back to Port Charles?" she asked wrapping her arms around her waist.

"Visiting family." He said with a nod and bright smile, "I figured I'd bring the kids by to see their grandmother." He said softly. "How about you? How are things with uh, Jason and Danny?" he asked as they walked towards a bench, sitting down next to one another.

"Oh, gosh, Danny is having the time of his life with soccer, he's officially made captain." Sam said proudly.

"That's awesome, I remember how much he loved it!" Drew said with a smile and nod of his head. "And how is your mom doing?" he asked softly. "How has she been with rehab?"

Sam frowned slightly, sighing, "She's…she's better. She still has her ups and downs, but she is a lot better. She's no longer living in that house, Julian moved away and now she is living with me and Jason and Danny." She said tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Really? That sounds very exciting." He said with a teasing smirk.

Sam smiled and shook her head, "Oh yeah, we're having loads of fun." She said with a snicker.

"Seems kinda…cramped in the penthouse though." Drew said taking a raised eyebrow.

Sam chuckled and shrugged a shoulder, "We're not in penthouse anymore. We're in a bigger home. Figured we'd need the space since we're expanding the family." She said shyly.

Drew's eyebrows went up and smiled, "Expanding the family? Are you—?"

"No, no." Sam said quickly shaking her head. "But we are thinking of adopting." She said with a smile and sigh. "Wanted to give a child a chance to be happy and have a real family." She said proudly.

Drew's smile wavered as he nodded his head, "And how's that process going?" he asked.

Sam winced and sighed, "Uh…it could be better. Of course, with our past it's kind of hard to show potential parents and social workers that we'd be great parents." She said with a shrug.

Drew nodded his head and chuckled lightly, "Yeah, I guess so." He said softly.

Sam studied him, a soft smile on her face, "So…how are things with you?" she asked with raised eyebrows, "How are things with private security?"

Drew perked up proudly and smiled, "It's going really well. We're actually in the process of opening up another site in the next town over."

"That's great Drew!" Sam said proudly.

"Yeah, we're helping out other vets in the process too. It keeps 'em busy, keeps us busy." He said with happy nod.

Sam bit her bottom lip and smiled, "And…how is Amelia? And—uh, Scout?" she asked cautiously.

Drew stared at her for a moment, a small smile on his face, "They're both great. Amelia is due in the next month and Scout can't wait to be a big sister." He said proudly.

Sam's smile wavered as studied him. This was the elephant in the room for them. Things went so badly when they broke up, then there was the custody battle and it got worst. Sam held so much resentment towards him that she almost asked Jason to do the unthinkable, but surprisingly, he was the one to talk her down. In the end, the motto held truth; time healed all wounds.

"That's really great Drew. I know…I know things weren't great between us some time ago, but—" she paused sighing softly, "I'm really glad you're happy and-and that Scout is happy and healthy. I know—I know we went through a lot with almost losing Scout—"

"You mean the bullet she took that was meant for Jason?" Drew asked with an unreadable expression. Sam remained quiet, staring at him then down to her hands. "Sam, yes, I blamed you for her almost dying. Yes, I still get upset about it, but then I get to see her smile and I get to hear how her day went at school or with her momma and—" he paused sighing, shaking his head and smiling, "And it's what keeps me going. It's because she's alive and still going, so I get to keep going too." He said, nodding his head, "When I sued you for custody of her, it wasn't to punish you." He said sincerely.

Sam nodded her head and sighed, "I know that now." She said staring back up at him. "I know now that you just—acted like a parent. You wanted her safe and wanted her away from any harm." She said nodding her head again, "You put her first and—and if we're being honest, that's what we've always wanted for our kids." She said with unshed tears in her eyes.

Drew stared at her, placing his hand on top of hers, giving it a squeeze, "She still knows about you. You are still her mother." He said firmly, giving her a soft smile. "That will never change." He said reassuringly.

Sam smiled at him, a lone tear rolling down her cheek, "Thank you." She said happily.

Drew smiled and reached up, wiping the tear away, "Always. Whether we like it or not, Scout is from both of us and…we have to be on the same page for her."

Sam nodded her head, smiling slightly, "Sounds like you and Amelia have it covered."

Drew gave her a soft smile and sighed, "Yeah, we do."

Sam nodded her head and swallowed, "That's what I want to hear." She said staring up at him.

Drew smiled at her, squeezing her hand again, "You're happy and I'm glad." He said sincerely.

"Happiness looks good on you too Drew." She said reaching up and caressing his cheek.

They continued to sit quietly, smiling at one another, enjoying the peace and reflecting on the times they shared, both good and bad. Sure, it didn't end the way they wanted it to, but in the end, they both got their wish: to wish each other well.
