Earthland is a place where magic and dragons exist. Wizards train to do their job and protect themselves but sometimes it's not enough to fight against dragons.

Dragons are vicious creatures. They destroy lands, massacre the humans, and prey on them. The human becomes the food of the dragons.

But not all of them are like that.

Some dragons allies themselves with the humans and fight alongside them to defeat the evil dragons that destroying the land. And most of them are living in the land of Dragonof. A land where dragon and human co-exist.

Many attempts to become the knights of Dragonof but the bravest are the only ones chosen.

And one of them is Natsu Dragneel.

Natsu lives in a village with his parents and older brother when a dragon attacks their village and killed their parents. He almost died in the attack but surprisingly he survived.

From then on.

Natsu decides to. become a knight to protect humans from the dragons that kills his parents while his brother decides to be a scholar in Academy. Zeref doesn't want to be separated from his brother but understands his desire to be strong and be a knight to protect those people around him.

And somehow, that dream starts to become come true. He is now officially a knight. And today is the day he will be starting his new job.

" Excited. Are we?" A teasing voice startling Natsu making him yelp and turn around seeing the red hair woman laugh at him.

" Irene. You startle me." Natsu sigh but grins at Irene who hugs him from behind and grins at him.

"You so easy to tease..." She teased her friend as he smiles at her. "Can you believe it? We're officially a knight!"

" I know! After years of training. Now, here we are." Natsu grin at Irene who giggles at him.

Natsu and Irene meet in the Dragonof land. Both of them is a knight in a trainee. The two first become rivals until it turns into friends as they always have each other back.

" Are you ready?" Natsu asks.

" I'm ready... As long as I'm with you" She grabs his hand and drag him to the knights gathering.

" Listen, Knights! There's a news that Dragons are attacking the north side of Dragonof. We must prepare to protect our city and kills those dragons! Are you all ready?!"

" Ready!" The knights shouted as the general lead them to the battlefield.

Years after Natsu become a knight. He's been fighting dragon ever since and trying to protect the humans. But what bothering him is they always lose against the dragons unless their allied dragons are fighting it.

" Ahhh!" Natsu shouts in frustration.

" You look troubled. Anything on your mind?" Irene asks sitting beside Natsu as they watch the sunset.

" Just a lot in mind. Only a dragon can fight another dragon. If we humans fight against the dragon, we will die instantly."

" You are right. I also notice those things. Our swords can only do that much but it cannot do much in slaying dragons"

" I wonder if there such thing that can slay dragons" Natsu wonder.

" What kind of magic can do that?"

" You know. The magic that can hurt the dragon. Even the regular mages cannot hurt the dragons"

" Hhmm" Irene hummed as she thought of Natsu's idea then it suddenly came to her.

" Why don't we ask Belserion and Igneel? I'm sure they can help us!" Irene said in excitement.

" You think they will help us?"

" Of course. They become our friends. I'm sure that we can do something to slay the dragons that targeting humans. What do you think?" Irene offered her hand. Natsu smiles and grabs her hand.

" As long as I'm with you"

" You want to what?" A booming voice sounds incredulous as he stared at the humans in front of him.

" We said. We want to learn your magic!" Natsu shouts so that they can hear him.

" It's impossible to teach our magic to humans. " Belserion explained.

" Nothing is impossible with determination to learn something. What we doing is not enough against the dragons." Natsu explains with a grin on his face.

" We plan to make dragon-slaying magic that can slay a dragon. We can't just let you fight for our battles. Will you help us?" Irene ask

Belserion and Igneel look at each other. Teaching dragon magic is unheard of. And they don't know what effect it will do on humans if they learn to use the dragon's magic.

" We can try. But we can't guarantee the success or the side effect of learning the dragon's magic."

" We understand."

Throughout the years. Natsu and Irene bring glory to the kingdom of Dragonof. They slay dragons that won't stop destroying their homes. Some start learning the dragon-slaying magic that Natsu and Irene created.

And soon, a lot of admirers notice the two knights that defend the kingdom of Dragonof. Others try to get their hands on marriage especially to Irene.

" What do you say, Lady Irene? I am sure this proposal will be beneficial for our country" General Rung offered to Irene.

" A great proposal but I'm not interested in your marriage proposal. And I don't see any benefits from it aside from spreading your influence in the Kingdom of Dragonof."

" I don't see how is that a bad thing. I'm the general of the Dragonof and you are the champion of the Dragonof."

" I'm one of the champions. I and Natsu are together in protecting the Dragonof. I am sure you do this because you heard the King's wish for me to be the next Queen and everyone knows that I will always choose Natsu at my sides."

" There is nothing to worry about at all. I am sure Natsu is contented to become the champion of Dragonof."

" He is but, you see General Rung. If I become a Queen, I will surely want Natsu to be always at my side. That means he is the only one I can think of to be my King. " Irene smirk. General Rung frowns and clenches the paper.

" Your soon gonna regret your decision, Lady Irene." General Rung said as he stormed out of the room.

Irene sigh as she went to the garden where Belserion is resting.

" Something troubling you? child" Belserion ask

" Just another marriage proposal from General Rung." Belserion scoff making Irene smile.

" That man only saw power. I don't know how he became a general."

" Connection from higher-ups" Irene answered Belserion.

" Natsu is better than the General. When are you two gonna be a mate?" Belserion asks making Irene blush.

" M-Mate?"

" Mate. Married. It's the same thing. You cannot separate from each other."

" It is still undecided. I don't even know how he feels about me." Irene sighs thinking of her salmon haired friend.

" He is clearly in love with you. I can see it in his eyes" Belserion said with a scoff from the obvious way the two-act to each other. "Speaking of which. Here he comes" Irene turn around in time Natsu came in with his scarf wrap around his neck.

" Irene. Just as I thought, I'll find you here" Natsu said with a relief smile as he hugs his best friend. Irene embraces Natsu and rests her head comfortably in his chest while Natsu rubs her back making her sigh in content.

" How did it go?" Irene ask her best friend

" It's great. Igneel and I talk, he told me that he wants to travel around the world and relax after the wars happened." Natsu then turned to Belserion. "Hello Belserion"

" Hello, Natsu. How are you?"

" I'm great." Natsu's answer then turns towards Irene. " The King is calling for our presence. Let's go?" Natsu offered his hand.

" Let's go... As long as I'm with you" Irene grin making Natsu grin wider. Belserion who saw this interaction roll his eyes at them and mutter to himself.

" Oblivious humans"

There's not much Natsu/Irene pairing so I made one.

This story is my take of What If Natsu didn't die young. I think he and Irene would be of the same age and I'm sure he will want to work to become a knight where dragons and humans co-exist.

And I am sure he will not let others treat Irene that way.Continue?
