AUTHOR NOTES:
It seems that some are confused about the [Modern World AU] in the summary.
Let me quite simply it, no offense, of course.
The story will progress through Remilia's past, as there is no Gensokyo in this world, Remilia will encounter all the characters and mythological creatures over time as she grows from her past to the future. The title is 'Scarlet Ruler' and you could imagine what that means in the Modern World :)
When I was born into this life, I was quite surprised by the vast differences in nobility between the stories and when seeing it truly by my own eyes. I was quite unsure of how nobility was taught in a sense of education, were they, in modern terms, home-schooled or perhaps they attend an academy?
The heir and heiress of nobility do attend an academy, specialized in the arts of nobility. Upon graduation, they follow through certain things that their family made for those who were ready for the greater world outside. Usually, planned marriage began as soon as their heir or heiress reaches the age of twelve.
And you say, what about those that stick to their pride and look down on each other? The academy and their family must try to keep that down and improve their knowledge of the world, and once the greater world has come, it is up to them how they can control as the head of the family or perhaps other jobs.
Meaning that intelligence is prized, it should be warned that being too arrogant may lead to your fall — though I have no idea of how long this nobility era is going to last, as someday the nobility will fall into ruin from the ever-growing attacks of the common.
I smoothed down my uniform dress as the personalized car drove over the dirt road, it was to my surprise that automobile development in this era was already this quite advanced. It was still quite old, but It was still a start for humanity for making something like this in 1908.
"Looks like it's going to be hot today, milady." My servant, Miyo, said demurely while holding a bag that held papers atop papers and a fountain pen. I looked up at her, severely reminding myself of the past where I similarly had said that.
"Why couldn't they fix this blasted air conditioner? It's sweltering hot in here.." A past voice..
I paused in my words, "Yes, indeed. I am not a fan of the sweltering heat, however." and the words that went out of my mouth is quite polite. I did not want to accidentally spout off something unladylike to Miyo, which will report it to my family head.
"I am sure you can handle the heat, milady," said Miyo with a barely concealed smile, my eyes merely twitched and fought off the urge to pout at the patronizing words. "Perhaps," I spoke dully as the car stopped, and I realize that we've arrived at our destination.
As I exited our car, we've realized that a gaggle of heir and heiress seemed to complaining at the academy teacher of unknown predicament. I approached not to complain but to listen to what they have to say.
"I am sorry that you felt or needed them that way, Heir Zeiburg, but it is an instruction from our principal to be more independent and apart from their helper."
I merely raised my eyebrows in intrigue, independent from our helper meaning that we have to be separated from our servant. It is a manner that I can take care myself of, but I have no idea how Miyo would react.
"Miyo, how do you think of this?" I inquired about her real thought.
"It is acceptable, milady. I can await your arrival soon when all assignments to your studies have been finished." Miyo spoke demurely, and I merely waved her way dismissively to go back to her duties. She curtsied and left the premises of the gate.
Nonetheless, I am quite pleased with how the academy seemed to take action of the fact that most nobles depends on their servant and often well mistreats them. See it as some sort of a break for those servants.
As I walk along the road towards the academy, I've noticed that some of the noble's faces are angered. Hopefully, no real damage is accrued to the academy just for this lesson — but this academy stood tall for all these years.
"Heiress Remilia!" I looked up at and turned around to see a boy barely recognizable by his glasses, and so the previously tortured boy in the grasp of nobility words have arrived. "Heir Kessel, pleased to see you that you have gained the cure to your problems." I curtsied with a smile as he did with a bow.
"I know. Thank you for making me realize about it, my lady!" The boy bowed once more and ran away as I watched in amusement, the boy's behavior seemed to give me nostalgia from my previous life. It resembled me when I was late to class, and I did not want to be punished for tardiness.
After one hour of a lecture from our professor in the arts of social study, I took an option and went the relaxed route of the academy. Despite being a relaxation point, it was still used for those that prefer privacy over wide areas and surrounded by forests meaning they have quite the advantage in some private things.
Thinking back on the incident that happened with the Gilles Family, it has been one and a half months since then. The heir of Gilles was not executed as gentlemen in the court led to believe, but imprisoned in the dungeons for quite some time — hopefully by the hopes of the judge that he himself can swell down the thirst of rage and revenge.
In regards to having watched the trial, I was not invited and the opportunity did not present itself due to some noble family visiting our lands to set up deals and trading between each land. It was a lower-ranked family, fortunately, as that did not give us many problems in setting the rules of the deal.
What a tiresome week, having to assist my father with the calculation…
As I walked the roads of the Academy park, listening to the voices that went past my ears with their whispers along with the whistles of the trees against the winds. It was quite peaceful, but the existence of this park did not compare to the forest that I usually visit during my free time.
"Greetings, Heiress Remilia." A voice spoke with barely concealed arrogance and such a grating voice in my ears. Such a voice should be shattered into pieces! And here I was hoping for a quiet peace under the trees. "And who is this, Heir..?" I spoke softly as I turn around, revealing an upper classmate with piercing green eyes.
"Heir Eridium, milady. Now, may I ask a question?" bowed the man politely, and now what is this? A battle with wordplay and simple bullying that would not get to me at all, or perhaps is it something else that would threaten me more? I merely stared dully, "And what is it that you want, Heir Eridium?" Distaste could be heard if you listened closely to my voice.
"Oh, nothing more than a question. Is it true that you've accepted a commoner to your family, my lady?" The voice seemed mocking, but I have to gain strength through this conversation and gain an advantage to mock him back. "I am sure that as the heiress, I will have heard of a commoner being accepted to our ranks and yet I hear none."
"Is that so? I've not realized that you have reached quite a high-ranked position in your own family, milady." And I could get the meaning of those words, basically demeaning me of how I expected information from my own family despite not being old enough. "Of course, after all, knowledge is power and knowledge can be found everywhere if you have the eyes or ears to back them up."
A barely-heard snort was heard from behind, but I merely ignored them in favor of listening to this man's blunder of irritating me. His eyes seemed to twitch in irritation, "Is that so? Then, let me be more specific. A commoner by the name of Kessel Diventine, a failed noble in the hands of this academy.. Have you heard of him?"
And the man's latest blunder was to earn the irritation of both family heir and heiress, the ignorance of this noble knows no bound of how influential the Diventine and Scarlet were. My eyes narrowed in a freezing cold glare that pierced his very soul, "I am afraid that you are mistaken, Heir Eridium. I have not heard of a commoner with a name like that, perhaps you mistook someone from the Book of Nobility?"
I could hear the man's teeth grinding against each other with the implied reference of his memory being quite faulty, despite the fact that it was not that high-leveled of an insult. I am sure my own family could generate a better one than that, and yet this one was irritated.
"That may be the case, then. Pleased to meet you, Heiress Remilia." The man left with defeat in his heart from the implied battle of words, the knife of those words stabbing into the hearts of himself. "Such ignorance and arrogance.." I sighed in disappointment at him.
"Papyrus, known as an ancient writing material to every known man, both commoners and nobles have used parchment and today we use papers—" There was nothing new, other than different dates when they were invented. They were invented with the same people, but at different times.
It would explain the late banishment and revolution of nobility that has not come yet, meaning the year of the incident in the future will move forward for a few years. To truly know when I have to calculate the chance of it of how many years have passed and differences between two timelines.
But at this point, it occurred to me that I do not have any powers specialized in vampires. I am simply human, a normal human being born in the day of nobility but with a name similar to that of a youkai being. But if I remembered correctly, it was explained that the original Remilia Scarlet was stuck in the physical body of a ten-year-old.
In that sense, it would happen two or one years from now on. For all this timeline difference, it could be that it would reach at least 3 years to reach that point and making this body at least eleven or twelve years old eternally. "—The earliest usage of papyrus was found in Egypt, an archaeological archive seemed to have found the earliest use by commoners in large usage."
I sighed as I wrote down notes to appear busy enough despite having read about this topic beforehand. The sun outside descending upon the horizons as the class grew closer to its end.
The road to the car was rather uneventful, but upon reaching the nearby town that we have to pass to go to the mansion of the Scarlet Family. I felt that the commoners strolling around and working hard In the town seemed tense, their eyes concealed by something greater than a simple desire or awe towards nobility.
It seemed that the revolution has begun.
The nobility would assume that they are preparing a festival or perhaps something else quite celebratory with the exception of myself, though, despite all my knowledge from the future. I have no way of knowing what their plan will be, combat strategy has never been my forte in this life or the past life.
I remarked, "It seems that they are preparing for something, does it not look like that, Miyo?" I have to be more careful with my words and phrasing, as the nobility could deflect the revolution away and change the timeline entirely. Strange, is it not?
What do I mean by that, you say? I mean that only one person could change the entire fate of the world and nobility by saying the incorrect words. Perhaps I do have the power to manipulate fate as did the original Remilia Scarlet but with a more limited range.
As I avert my eyes from the tense commoners outside the window of the car, I noticed that my servant is quite tense either and that entails of how all servants and commoners is involved in this little revolution of theirs.
How interesting…
"Indeed, my lady. Perhaps they are planning for a festival of some sort?" I looked at her strangely for quite a moment and mentally palmed my face with exasperation. Miyo was never quite a good liar, and with her rapid blinking and tense body language, it clearly says a lot about her.
Though, it was quite amusing watching her being like this. "…Indeed," I spoke the words out more slowly to possibly irritate her, and it seemed Miyo has caught of the fact that the heiress caught her lie. "Please, as long as it is beneficial for the Diventine family and for the commoner's sake, continue." I gracefully saved her from any suspicion, and it seemed she seemed to exhale a few held breath from inside her lungs from the short rising tension from earlier.
That was quite amusing, I'd say.
"Thank you, my lady." She bowed her head in a respectful manner and I averted my eyes back to the window to see that we have passed by the town and is now approaching our mansion at front. On the second thought, I've realized that I had just relieved myself of the boredom by picking on select individual and earned amusement. "Good grief…" I sighed mentally.
How long until I've caved into boredom and tried to cause an incident now..?
It's rather boring in a world without electronics but surrounded by books.
Though, if Miyo is involved in the upcoming revolution. That means I have to watch out for anything she serves, for all the possibilities, she could have poisoned my food or drink with something rather lethal or unfit for consumption.
And thus, I've realized something that I cannot avoid despite all my intelligence and knowledge. Death in which the inevitable will come not for me but the others, what about the Heir of Diventine family, Kessel Diventine, or perhaps my mother/father?
In my mind, including the soon-to-be deceased nobility in my mind will decrease the efficiency of my plans. Of course, it's possible that they will try to escape and some may escape successfully..
The thought is still quite painful, thinking of their deaths.
