Chapter Two

Viridian Forest. Officer Jenny sighed, of course, they would run into there. It was just her luck, she shuddered as much as she loved pokémon she detested bug-types. They just... creeped her out.

Her green hair whipped wildly in the wind, her eyes scanned the trees around her for any sign at all, as to where those damned Team Rocket grunts had gone. The thieves had stolen a Pokémon egg from the nearby daycare, they had only taken one because she had arrived before they could steal anymore and they ran. Into the creepy bug-type infested forest outside of Viridian City.

Just as she was about to drop her pursuit her partner, Growlithe, perked up and started to sniff the air, drawing her attention to the loyal pokémon. She tilted her head in the direction the puppy pokémon was facing squinting at the dirt road that leads from the forest to the City. It was hard to see with the sun fading so quickly. But as far as she could tell there want anything, frowning Officer Jenny turned back to her partner.

"What is it Growlithe? Is it Team Rocket?" She asked her pokémon, who shook his head at her before taking off in that same direction, leaving her no choice but to follow. She knew better than to call for him, more often than not he was doing the crime-busting while she was left in his dust. Not that she minded, he saved a lot of people and pokémon too with his dedication to his job. She trusted him.

That was when she heard the ear-piercing scream of a child. Worried Officer Jenny sped up her pace, wishing she hadn't left her bike behind when she went in pursuit of the grunts. When she reached her pokémon side she once again scanned her surroundings hoping to spot where the scream originated when out of the long grass appeared a child with loose hanging clothes and black hair collapsed right at the edge of the road just feet from her.

Growlithe looked to his human and back to the small child that had fainted, before trotting over and nudging the little girl with his nose. The child didn't respond and the puppy pokémon urged his human to help him.

Officer Jenny understood what he was getting at and gently picked the frail-looking girl up holding her against her chest. Growlithe had a concerned look on his dog-like face before he replaced it with an excited one which had thrown Officer Jenny off a bit, even more so when her pokémon nudged her pouch. Where she kept the firestone her mother had given to her in case of an emergency. She blinked at her friend.

"Are you sure Growlithe? You do know it's permanent right? You won't be able to turn back." She told him.

He just huffed and pawed the dirt, giving her a look that said, 'I know that genius, I wouldn't ask otherwise.'

Officer Jenny rolled her eyes good-naturedly "Fine smart Alek. I suppose this is rather important. Well if your ready old pal, here goes nothing!" She said adjusting the child in her arms so she could access the pouch on her hip.

Unzipping it and tossing the stone to Growlithe who caught it in his mouth, both waited in anticipation for the transformation to begin.

Growlithe felt his body heat up and shut his eyes tightly as he underwent the evolution, his body was enveloped in a blinding white light. He could feel his limbs stretch and grow and his bones harden, his fur lengthen as it went on for what felt like, to him, hours when it hadn't been ten seconds. When the transformation was complete he let out a mighty howl and listened with his heightened senses as the nearby Pidgy and Spearow flew out of the trees in panic.

"Oh wow! Growl—err... Arcanine! You look amazing! And to be honest, I was a little intimidated by that howl and I'm surprised it didn't wake up the kid... The Kid! Quick Arcanine we gotta get her outta here!" Mariana Jenny, pokémon Officer said to her partner as she clambered onto his back. The sun had nearly disappeared behind the trees as the trio begun to leave the road headed for the City.

The grunts could wait until morning, true they may be gone by then, but this child was their main priority at the present. Officer Jenny tried her best to keep both of them on Arcanine's back as he ran but it was proving to be very difficult.

Harriet blinked her eyes open only to close them immediately after opening them. The white of the, what she assumed to be a, hospital room was a bit too bright for her liking. She groaned as she processed her thoughts. Not even a day in and she was already in a hospital bed. Bloody fantastic! She thought sarcastically.

When her eyes finally adjusted to the light, she felt someone staring at her. Or well something like that, in her world she felt like she was being watched all the time so it wasn't a new feeling. Her green eyes searched the sterile room for anything that could have been watching her, they landed on a strange orange fitted lion-tiger-dog... thing. Sitting at the foot of her bed. Staring. How she had missed it when she woke up she didn't know.

And she reacted the way her brain wanted to and... screamed. Not surprising but, can you blame her? It was staring at her, most likely the whole time she had been asleep, and she didn't know what the Hell it was. If this world was run by a bunch of these strange creatures she wasn't so sure she wanted to continue with her journey. She was still screaming even when people appeared in the room.

Officer Mariana Jenny and her loyal pokémon partner Growlithe were in pursuit of two Team Rocket goons when her partner caught the scent of a distressed human child. Rushing to Harriet's aid, the crime stopping duo decide it was time Growlithe became Arcanine... that probably wasn't the best description but I tried. Harriet finds herself once again in a hospital bed.
