Chapter: 1

Updated: 1/19/21

Connor Winston is 16 years old. He lives in Dallas, Texas which is located in the United States. He is a junior in high school. He and his dad live together. His mom and little brother died in a car accident when he was 7. Connor has short blonde hair and blue eyes with pale skin. He is skinny and unathletic. It is Wednesday night and at the moment Connor is walking home from work. He works at a skating rink near his house. He has a backpack which he puts a change of clothes in. He is wearing a light brown jacket with a white shirt and blue jeans with Timberlands. He reaches an apartment complex and walks up a flight of stairs. He reaches his family's apartment. He unlocks the door with his key and walks in to find his dad sitting on the couch watching TV.

"Hey sport how was work?" his dad asked

Connor went into the kitchen to grab a soda "Pretty boring other than the fact that I got a pay raise." he said nonchalantly

"Nice! How much?" his dad asked

"60 cent raise," Connor replied as he sat down next to his dad

"Not too bad," he said

"When do you get off work tomorrow?" Connor asked

"I work from 1-6 why?" he answered

"Wanna go out to eat somewhere? My treat." Connor offered as he finishes his soda

"Alright then Mr. Money bags I'll take you up on that," he laughed

"Yea yea I'll see you in the morning," Connor told him as he went to his room

Once there he drops his bag and soda on the ground and lays on his bed within seconds he is asleep. Once he wakes up he notices that it's brighter than usual outside. He looks over at his alarm clock and sees that it's 11 am.

"OH CRAP!" he yells as he sprung out of bed

He grabs his school bag and runs through the apartment. He wonders why his alarm didn't wake him up or why his dad wasn't there because his dad doesn't start work until 1 pm. He swung open the door to find a completely new environment. Confused by this he walks over to the railing in front of him and sees a parking lot below him and a beach just down the street.

"What?!" he screamed

"Hey shut up!" some man yelled from the parking lot below

Connor looked down at the man and saw the man had four eyes and four arms. He panicked and ran back inside. His mind was racing. He turned on the TV and the news came on. He could understand them but the headlines were written in Japanese but the words instantly converted to English. He rubbed his eyes repeatedly. He then grabbed his phone and turned it on and saw that his phone wouldn't work. He was very confused. He looked around and saw his laptop on the table in front of the couch. Before he went to grab it he heard an envelope slid under his door. He walked over and picked it up. 'Connor' was all that was written on the envelope. After he picked it up he opened the envelope and said a letter, it began. 'Hello, Connor you are probably trying to understand what is going on at the moment. Well in this letter I will try my best to explain the situation to you. I will not tell you my name or hint at my identity. This reason is that if the authorities found this letter and the many that will follow I won't be found out. Now to get down to business you are in Musutafu, Japan. Your apartment is located right next to Dagobah Beach Park. Now here's where things may become a bit overwhelming. You are in an alternate universe. 80% of the people living in this world have quirks, which are essentially natural superpowers. Everyone you knew is gone, no one is here from your world and I am the only one who knows of your world and who has the key to getting you home but the only way I will take you home is if you do one thing for me. Become the number one hero. Heros are a new profession that came with the rise of quirks and essentially the more popular you are the more money you make and the only way to get popular is to take every opportunity to get yourself out there by fighting crime. The only way to be number 1 is to be the most popular and the strongest hero out there. To achieve this goal I have given you a quirk: Lightning control. This quirk allows you to manipulate electricity whether it's from electronics, storms, or even the electricity in people, and bend it to your will. You even can generate electricity from your body. You will use this quirk to become the number one hero and the only way to get there is if you go to UA. It's a high school for gifted quirk users and has the best hero courses in the world. By going to UA you will be recognized by top-tier heroes which will take you on as sidekicks and from there you will become a hero and reach the top. Now that you know where you are and what your goal is let me tell you the best way to get there. The UA entrance exam is in three months and you must pass and the best way for you to do that is for you to train your quirk. Think of your quirk as a muscle. The best way to get stronger is to exercise that quirk. On the back of this letter is a workout regimen for this week. I will send you a harder one every week until your entrance exam. I look forward to seeing you in action. Also don't worry about rent or supplies I'll have things delivered to your apartment and I've already taken care of this years rent. P.S. For some added motivation if you don't succeed I will kill your father. From your new master.' Connor felt so overwhelmed he sat down on the couch. Staring at the letter. I guess I should get to training. He thought to himself.

It's been three months since he arrived here and he has been training nonstop. He has a very impressive athletic build now. All his shirts look skin tight on him. He is on his way to UA. he is wearing a white shirt and black shorts. He has created many abilities with his quirk. His most useful quirk is Flash step, well that's what he calls it anyway. He pretty much shoots a bolt of lightning and gets pulled by it but to someone watching him, it looks like he turns into a lightning bolt and shoots to his destination. Another ability he has is where he summons lightning to certain body parts and uses them as a weapon like for example lightning surrounding his fist i.e. a lightning punch etc. he has been training his quirk in a forest not too far from the city. He has lots of abilities he's eager to try out. He arrives at UA and begins to walk inside but before he walks up the steps he sees a smaller male teen with messy green hair floating in the air while a smaller female teen with brown hair uses her quirk to make him float. "Levitation huh...That can be dangerous depending on the user," he thought to himself as he entered the auditorium and took his seat. A few moments later the lights came on and on the stage, there was a man with long blonde hair wearing sunglasses wearing a black leather jacket.

"What's up UA candidates! Thanks for tuning' into me, your school DJ. Come on and let me hear ya!" the man said loudly

He was met with silence.

"Keeping it mellow, huh? That's fine I'll skip to the main show. Let's talk about how this practical exam is gonna go down, okay? Are you ready! Yeah!" he yelled

He was met with silence once again. Connor was unamused by this but what made him annoyed was the kid with messy green hair kept muttering. The DJ continued.

"Like your application said, today you rocking' boys and girls will be out there conducting ten-minute mock battles in super-hip urban settings. After I drop the mic here, you'll head to your specified battle center, sound good?" he explained

Connor picked up his paper and noticed that he was a Battle Center B

"Okay, okay, let's check out your targets. There are three types of faux villains in every battle center. You'll earn points based on their level of difficulty, so better choose wisely. Your goal in this trial is to use your Quirk to raise your score by shredding these faux villains like a mid-song guitar solo. But, check it! Make sure you're keep'n things heroic. Attacking other examinees is a UA no-no, ya dig?" he finished

"Excuse me, sir, but I have a question." a teen with a suit and glasses said

"Hit me!" he responded

"On the printout, you've listed four types of villains. Not three. With all respect, if this is an error on official UA materials, it is shameful. We are exemplary students. We expect the best from Japan's most notable school. Additionally, you with the unkempt hair. You have been muttering this entire time. Stop that. If you can't bother to take this seriously then leave. You're distracting the rest of us." the raven-haired boy said

Most of the students snickered at the comment about the boy and the boy's reaction as he lowered his head.

"All right, all right. Examinee number 7-1-1-1. Thanks for calling in with your request. The fourth villain type is worth zero points. That guy is just an obstacle we'll be throwing in your way. There's one in every battle center. Think of it as a hurdle you should try to avoid. It's not that it can't be beaten, but there's...Kinda no point. I recommend my listeners try to ignore it and focus on the ones toppin' the charts." he explained

"Thank you very much please continue." the boy said while bowing

Students started to whisper to each other. "Man could we just hurry this up." Connor thought to himself

"That's all I got for you today. I'll sign off with a little present. A sample of our school motto! As General Napoleon Bonaparte once laid down. A true hero is one who overcomes life's misfortunes. Mm-Hm. Now that's a tasty soundbite. Are you ready to go beyond? Let's hear a Plus Ultra! Good luck! Hope you practiced hitting more than just books." he finished

Students began to stand up and headed out. "Ugh finally," he muttered to himself

"Got somewhere to be?" a girl asked him

He looked over at her and saw that she was wearing a simple white button-up shirt with a short black skirt. She had long orange hair put in a side ponytail. She had green eyes and a fair complexion. Connor simply shrugged at her question and walked away. He took a glance back and saw her with an angry look on her face. He smirked at her. At that moment he could've sworn steam blew out of her ears. They all made it to their respective Battle Centers and were waiting for it to start. They were all waiting behind a huge door. Some people were stretching others were psyching themselves up and others were just standing around and talking. Connor noticed out of the corner of his eye the raven-haired boy from earlier talking to the boy with the messy green hair. "What a bunch of losers," he thought to himself

"Right, Let's start!" the DJ from earlier exclaimed

Everyone looked at him confused except Connor. He looked at the door and noticed that it had opened. He walked over to it. Once there the DJ continued.

"Get Moving! There are no countdowns in real battles. Run, run, run, listeners! You're wasting airtime here." he exclaimed

Just as everyone started to run Connor took half a step forward and used his Flash step technique and was then almost instantly over 100 yards in front of the group already taking down robots. He figured he'd only use flash step to take down the enemies. Not only would it deny the potential rivals the chance of gauging his power but he also figured he shouldn't go all out against bots. 8 minutes had passed and Connor had gotten 110 points so he sat on a ledge of a rooftop satisfied with where he was with his points. After watching students fighting the robots he makes eye contact with two students who impress him. One of them was a spiky blonde hair teen and the other one was a teen with white and red hair. They both looked like decent rivals. As he was about to head back to the entrance he felt the whole city start to shake and looks over his shoulder and sees the 0 pointer but it was as tall as at least two skyscrapers. Connor grinned as this could prove useful to him, he could demonstrate just how much out of their league he was and could show his master how far he had come in just three months but just before he decided to act the teen with the messy green hair from earlier looked like he was about to do something as he was the only person running towards the robot instead of away from it. Connor decided to sit back down on the ledge and enjoy the show. The teen's legs glowed red and had green electricity from his legs and within half a second he was already eye to eye with the bot. Connor grinned at the sight of his speed. The teen then punches the bot in the face which destroyed it with one blow. Connor was excited by this he wanted to fight him, to see who would win, how he matched against a real opponent. His smile and excitement quickly faded as soon as he saw the teen's arm and legs completely broken. "One-shot," he grumbled with disappointment. Just before he hit the ground the brown-haired girl slapped him just before he hit the ground which caused him to float. He then heard the alarm go off to let everyone know that the exam was over. He then saw an old lady kiss the green-haired teen which caused his bones to heal instantly. Connor decided to head home.

A day passed and he got a letter from UA telling him that he passed the entrance exam and that he had the highest score. He wasn't surprised by this, in fact, he already knew it but what did surprise him was the letter he got from his master. 'Connor I saw the entrance exam and I must say that I am mildly impressed with the mastery of your new quirk. Don't let this win get to your head though the training only gets harder from here on out. Flip to the back to see your new training regiment.' Connor sighed and placed the paper on his desk and made his way to bed.
