Chapter 21: 7 Months
THEY WERE BACK IN KONOHA. Their home. But for what? Sakura doesn't know, she just knew that it worked in her favor because she coudn't miss today of all days. All Sasuke mentioned was that Naruto and Kakashi needed to speak with him urgently, in person, and here they were, about to step through her -their- home's gates. She didn't question him or ask for details because she knew it was related to his mission. If the information was crucial to her safety he'd tell her like he's done once or twice before.
Because she was nearing the end of her pregnancy -being seven and a half months- Sasuke had to transport them there rather than them travel so far from Suna. They had been a guest in Suna for about three weeks because Sakura's mental hospital had finished building and since it was new Sakura had been helping along with the opening process.
It was going great so far, everything that Sakura had imagined and more and it was also perfect timing in her favor also that they were coming home because the mental hospital there was soon to open as well. Naruto had informed Sasuke to tell her in his last message that the hospital had just finished building. Out of all the villages, theirs was the biggest so it was mandatory (to Sakura) that she be here to help run it when it was time for it to open.
The grand opening of the mental/traumatic institute wasn't the only good reason as to why she was excited to be back. She was back in the environment she was familiar with and have missed. Don't get her wrong, journeying with Sasuke is a joy to her; Everything was an eye opener to her when she was with him because she was experiencing these places along side him, every moment was precious and they left their mark and seeing new places was refreshing, but home to her will always be Konoha.
She'll get to see her parents and friends that she hasn't seen in nearly 8 months and visit the home she hasn't been in, her cat bouyo who was being taken care of by her parents, her hospital, her patients, Tsunade and many more.
As they approached the gates and neared the entrance, two Chunin ninjas stood guard at either side of the open doors. They immediately recognized the two and bowed, Sakura nearly stumbled while Sasuke raised a brow and caught hold of her arm so she wouldn't fall. That was a greeting they never encountered before and wasn't expecting so you could imagine their surprise.
The ninjas stood back up and grinned at them, namely Sakura. "Sakura-san, Sasuke-sama, welcome back."
"Thanks. It's nice to see you guys again and be back," Sakura smiles.
"How long will you be staying for? Permanently?" One asks.
"I..um..don't know. Honestly..." she looked towards Sasuke. Were they staying? Could this personal meeting be the one where Kakashi says Sasuke's mission is complete? And if not..will his mission ever be complete? Sakura's wondered about that last question for a while.
Sasuke didn't say a word, he placed a hand on Sakura's back before before teleporting them directly inside the Hokage office without so much of a knock.
Kakashi, whose head had been in his perverted books, looked up with his one eye. It was clear their coming in like this wasn't a surprise to him. "I knew you'd do that. Teleport here instead of walking or jumping like any ordinary ninja."
"Sasuke-kun! You ignored their question that was rude." Sakura's hands went on her hips.
"Our future whereabouts are none of their concern," he answered her curtly before she sighed and the heel of her palm met her forehead as he turned to Kakashi.
The white haired man stood, "If you two are done with your love scabbles- oof!" he was abruptly cut off by Sakura's hug which deprived him of his oxygen supply.
"Kakashi-sensei!"
"S-sa...ku..r-"
"Oh! Right. Ahaha..." the pinkete let go of him. "Sorry I just missed you is all." She grins. "I see that you're doing..." her eyes scanned the mountains of paperwork and books littered on his desk. And his head had been in his pervy books? "Relatively well."
"A Hokage's job is never done." He lovingly placed a hand on her head. "I see you and Sasuke are quite well too. Very well." His eyes rested on her stomach that was being hidden behind her large cloak. At first she wondered how he possibly could have known until she realized he must have felt her hard and large belly when she hugged him.
She blushed and was quite speechless on what to say to that. Thankfully she didn't really have to as Kakashi then said "Congratulations, both of you,"
Now that was something easy to respond to, "Thank you!"
"Thanks."
Sasuke's eyes lingered a bit more on Sakura and her belly before turning to Kakashi, "Regarding what you called me here for-"
"I'll take my leave." Sakura takes off her cloak and hands it to Sasuke, letting her belly shine in its roundness in her red maternity dress. There was no point in keeping her pregnancy hidden in her own home. Outside they did so for safety purposes.
Sasuke stared at her. Sakura sighs,"S asuke, I am safe in my own village. I have many things to do and lots of people to see. Besides, I don't want to intrude when I'm not needed here."
Sasuke closed his eyes, relenting, and giving her the tiniest nod. She had almost kissed him on the cheek until she remembered he didn't like much of public affection so she gave him a smile instead. "I'll be okay. Come find me when you're done."
"A-ah."
"Kakashi!" She looked at her sensei who raised a brow, "I'll talk to you later." And she left. Practically skipping down the halls to the place she knew she had to visit first.
Magnificent, beautiful, jaw-dropping; those were the three words of many that floated through Sakura's mind as she stared at the newly made and finished mental institute infront of her. Tears welled her eyes at seeing the building she had invisioned and drawed out standing high and proud before her.
A moderately large crowed stood behind the red ribbon that prevented them from going any further. Just beyond that ribbon stood everyone she had expected to be there; Ino, Hinata, Lady Tsuande, Shizune, and many of the nurses she's trained for this facility that were to work here.
She discreetly made her way around the crowed and to where her peers were standing with their backs to her. Seeing as she hadn't bothered to mask her chakra and every ninja in this village practically had hers memorized by heart, it only took a second for all of them to turn around.
Glee and then shock crossed their faces upon seeing her and then the large belly she was supporting. What surprised her too, was that Ino had a belly of her own only perhaps a few months smaller. Sakura sent them a sheepish smile and as they got over their reactions, they all came to run over and hug her, Ino being the first.
"SAKURA!!" The blonde held her tightly as their belly's touched. The littlest Uchiha kicked in response to the small disturbance. "I didn't think you'd be here today! I didn't think you'd be in the village at all for..for who knows how long!" She pulled back, happy tears pooling down both their faces.
"Horomones." They both laughed as they looked at the other and dried their tears.
"I couldn't miss today of all days. One way or another I was coming, it just so happened to be a convenience that my Anata had to come to the village too." She placed her hand on Ino's stomach, "You're pregnant!"
"You're pregnant too!"
"I know!"
"How far along?"
"7 and 1/2 months. You?"
"Nearing 5 soon."
"And I'm nearing birth any day now," that came from a very pregnant Hinata who looked almost ready to pop. Sakura gasps, she was positively glowing, and then it dawned on her that she most certainly will be giving birth quite soon.
"Well I'm glad I'm here then. He or she could be coming soon and I did say I would be there when you went into labor...has there been any progress?"
"The contractions have been far apart since last night and I'm only two centimeters dialated. It's slow, but it's something. Naruto-kuns more anxious than I am." Hinata giggles and the girls join suit. "And congratulations on your pregnancy too Sakura-san it suits you," she says sincerely.
"Yeah," agrees Ino with a smile. "I can only wonder how Sasuke's reaction was." She ponders.
"Ladies, as much as this little reunion touches my heart, we'll have to save it until after the opening ceremony."
All the girls snapped to attention, "Right!" They chorus.
As Tsunade stepped in to say a few words, she introduced Sakura who the crowed cheered loudly for, the pregnant pink-haired Uchiha smiled widely as they continued their clap. She'd have to wait until they were done to speak but she couldn't help but feel the swell of pride in her heart as she introduced a legacy that will live on forever with her to the world and village she loves to call home.
