This story focuses on Leon and Sonia after the events of the 45 episode of Pokémon journeys. I really like the character of both Leon and Sonia, so that is why I wrote this story about them. I want to portray the life of the characters in the series outside of what we see on screen and deepen out some of the characters/interactions. So for understanding this story you need to watch the pokémon journeys episodes.
Hope you like it!
Disclaimer: I don't own the Pokémon franchise or characters.
Spoilers! about the 45 episode of Pokémon journeys!
The light shining through his curtains wakes him up. It is almost eleven o clock, normally at this time he is training with his pokemon but today his body won't let him. The fight of yesterday really exhausted him. With a groan, he tries to get up. The bruises on his arm are turning deep blue and purple and he is pretty certain a few ribs are bruised, but it was worth it. He had to protect the two younger boys. He drags himself out of his bed and stumbles, in his t-shirt and shorts, to the brown couch in the living room where he lays down again. Sonia's house has a nice vibe. The broken white walls contrast nicely with the other colors in the room. A Bordeaux red carpet lays on the floor and some wooden closets are standing against the wall. They are some pictures of Sonia and her grandma and one of him and her together when they were young. He smiles, they really have known each other for a long time.
"What are you doing out of bed?" a voice asks surprised.
Leon looks up and sees Sonia standing in the opening of the front door. He has not heard her come in. "Have you been out?" He ignores her question.
"Yes, I was at my grandmother's lab, and look at what she gave me!" Full of proud Sonia shows her white professor cote.
"Wow, that is amazing! You really deserve it, Sonia." Leon smiles.
"Thank you." She blushes a little bit. "It took me a while, but finally I'm a professor." She sits down on the couch next to him and looks at his bruises. "You really should see a doctor, Leon."
"No, no, I'm fine."
"Ugh, you are so stubborn sometimes."
He tries to sit down and with one hand on his ribs he gets up. "What are you doing?"
"I'm going to eat something, I'm starving." Leon tries to stands and slowly starts walking towards the kitchen.
"Hey just let me prepare something, you really need to rest." Sonia follows him to the kitchen.
"I have no time to rest, I need to train."
"Charizard is still at the Pokémon center remember."
"I know, I will pick him up after I've eaten something." He actually wanted to stay at the side of his best buddy, but Sonia demanded that he would get some sleep and she dragged him down to her house. The car ride was almost more terrifying than the battle with Eteranatus and the events of the Darkest Day. Sometimes he wonders how she even got her driver's license...
"I just walked by and he is still recovering from his wounds. He also needs to rest," Sonia says.
"We can better be together, you know that." He feels guilty that he isn't with Charizard right now. He cannot even remember when the last time was he was separated from his buddy.
"I know and that is why I took him with me," Sonia winks. Leon blinks with his eyes and a smile breaks through on his face. "You did? Where is he?"
"Here," Sonia gives the pokéball to Leon. "When I checked on him they said he had recovered enough to go home. So I thought I would bring him to you because I knew the moment you wake up you would want to go to him."
"Yeah, definitely. Do you mind if Charizard is in the house?"
"Wait let me make some space. Sonia runs back to the living room and pushes some chairs and couches to the side.
Leon stumbles back to the couch with a sandwich in his hand and sits down. He then throws the Pokeball of Charizard in the air and his dragon-type pokemon comes out with a sad growl. His blue-grey eyes glare at his trainer for a second and then he bows his head.
"Charizard it is not your fault, you battled great, but Eternatus was just too strong." Charizard lays his head on the knees of his trainer and Leon pets him while giving him the other half of the sandwich. He knows how his pokemon feel, he feels exactly the same. His winning streak of ten years has come to an end. Although it was not an official battle, it was the most important battle he ever fought, and he lost. If Ash and Go weren't there, nobody would have been able to stop Eternatus. He was not able to protect Galar, he was not strong enough. He clenches his teeth and makes a fist. He must admit he was shocked by the strength of Ash pokemon. He wouldn't have thought the boy would defeat chairman Rose that easily. And then that Lucario... It sure looked strong. Rose always was and is a highly skilled trainer. Would Ash be able to defeat him? He shakes his head, no definitely not. He is going to train more, even more than he already does. And he has to start today. Leon gets on his feet again. "Sonia where are my clothes?"
"I put them in the laundry, they are not dry yet. Why?" she asks suspiciously.
"We need to train, but that is okay. I can train in my pajamas too. Come Charizard." Leon starts walking towards the front door. Charizard looks up but does not follow his trainer.
"Leon, what are you thinking. Your body is bluer than the shorts you are wearing. And Charizard is not recovered yet," Sonia yells.
"We should not waste any more time, my opponents are not resting."
"You mean Ash."
"What?" He turns around surprised.
"I know that you think he might be the one who is going to beat you. Since you battled him the first time you know he is a worthy opponent, although is not strong enough, yet."
He clenches his teeth. She is right, he felt the power of the boy while fighting against him. A power he has too. A power that can make you a champion.
"I don't understand where he came from," he says in frustration. I don't know anything about that kid, but he is really strong. It... It frightens me..."
"Why does it? At one point you are going to lose."
"I just lost remember, but that won't happen again."
"You need to be realistic, everybody is going to lose sometime. And it is not as bad as you think."
Leon shrugs his shoulders. "Well, I don't like it."
Sonia rolls her eyes and crosses her arms. "Nobody likes it, but you do learn from it. I can tell from my experience."
Leon sights. "Maybe you are right." He slowly walks back to the cough. His body does hurt pretty badly and the look on Charizard's face tells him he is not ready to battle yet. "Maybe I should rest for one more day and then..." he yawns.
Sonia smiles softly. "Just relax for now. We can watch a movie?"
"Don't you need to go to your new job?"
"No, I took the day off. I wanted to be sure you would not do stupid things."
Leon laughs. "Thanks. So what movie do you want to see?"
Sonia turns on the TV. They are broadcasting the news. Leon sees himself on the top of the roof of the Hammerlocke building. At that moment he was still able to battle. Then the broadcasting suddenly turns black, probably because the big energy fall-out of Eternatus must have scared off the news helicopter. An interviewer comes into the picture and they talk about the events. "I will go to the movies," Sonia says and at the moment she clicks away the woman on the TV starts talking about something Leon does want to hear. "Wait. What is she saying?"
Sonia returns to the news broadcast fastly. "Chairman Rose and his secretary are still not found, where are they?" Because of all the events that happened Leon totally forgot that the Rose is still walking around somewhere. "I need to find him! He cannot get away with this." He jumps on his feet but immediately falls on his butt on the couch again. His ribs are protesting too much. "Go look for him tomorrow," Sonia sights.
"Yeah, yeah." It frustrates him that he is not able to do anything. But Sonia is right, he probably feels better tomorrow, and if he doesn't then he is going to search for chairman Rose anyway.
"Don't you want to do something about this mess, Sonia?"
"Of course I do, but at this moment we can't do anything. I don't want to leave my friend alone and Leon, seriously... Have you looked in the mirror today?"
"I'm fine, okay. A few bruises won't kill me."
Sonia shrugs her shoulders. "Just don't take it too hard on yourself."
"I won't..." He sighs. One day on a couch, he can survive that. And Charizard really needs to rest. "So what movie do you want to see?"
"I was thinking about a funny movie, something light."
Leon hums. "Sure." He looks at the screen but his mind is not with the movie at all. All he can think about is where chairman Rose is hiding, where he can find him and confront him with what he has done...
So this was the first chapter of a story concentrated on Leon in the Pokémon series. I'm thinking of writing more of them but that also depends on what the episodes will bring us. Let me know what you think of it! :)
