Chapter 6 - Southward Ho
Hana awoke several hours later in a rough uncomfortable bed. Her back straightened up as she stretched with an audible groan she looked around the room. Across from her was Mari also in a bed with her left arm wrapped up seeming to be reading a scroll engrossed in its content. Hana tries to peek over her glasses to see into her eyes but just as she is about to, Mari looks up. "Ah Hana you're awake" she proclaimed with a beaming smile.
"Ye Mari, what happened … the last thing I remember was, THE BELLS! We won Mari we won. No D-ranks for us" Hana now seemingly gleefully yelped with enthusiasm for the first time really ever. (at least as far as Mari was aware.)
With this Kasai leaped from his sleeping spot from the leather chair, in the room's corner. A bit of drool staining the corner of his mouth. He looks around the room. Before any could begin speaking, the door slid open revealing Anko and a pink-haired girl, maybe 5 years the senior to Mari and Kasai. "Miss Sakura" Hana chirped. Mari gives a nonchalant wave to Sakura. Kasai looked around somewhat sheepishly and slinked back into his chair.
"Thanks for healing them Sakura" Anko happily proclaimed, puttering up arm around Sakura.
"Next time don't beat your genin into the dirt so hard Anko" Sakura retorted to the other Jonin.
"They passed the bell test and good for them I have our first mission and it is a doozy," Anko said, pulling a file out of seeming thin air. While Sakura does a list checkup on Mari's arm.
The three genin look tentatively at Anko with expressions of wanting her to continue. "So we have an especially assigned B- Rank mission in the land of Tea," Anko says with a grin growing across her face.
The Three genin and Sakura look shocked at the level of mission "what is it that we will be doing sensei?" Hana requests.
"Before I start what do you kids know about the Land of Tea?" Anko questions her genin.
"The Land of Tea lies south of The Land of Fire and Konohagakure and primarily uses freelance ninja or Leaf shinobi." Hana proclaims as if reading from a textbook.
"It's a Historically an ally of Konoha and has no Hidden village of its own. Because of this and few mercenaries being available, it has recently been prone to bandit and rogue ninja attacks." Kasai adds.
"Due to the instability the last Lord died and his two sons started a civil war over who should rule." Mari finishes the point.
"You guy practice finishing each other's ..." Anko starts
"Sandwiches" Kasai concluded as a moment of silence fills the room "It was sentences wasn't it? It always is damn it." He finishes.
"Well now that's over, ye you brats nailed it pretty well which makes things easier so thanks." Anko proclaims with hints of pride in her students. "Our mission is to set up a fake assassination attempt on the Younger brother Yoshinori Hido"
The Three genin look at each other and back at Anko "Wait what?!" They yelled in unison, as Sakura slinked out the hospital room.
"We shall be setting it up and attempting the fake hit on Yoshinori. Doing so should reveal the rouge shinobi elements that he is working with and will allow several Jonin myself Included to take out whoever is behind him." Anko explained to the attentive but shocked genin. "While I and other Jonin do that you all shall be assigned to help guard his brother Kazaki Hido. Hopefully doing all this will allow us to end the war that has been stalemating for over 4 months." With that all over Anko looks at her genin. "We set off in three days don't be late." And after that final word, she disappears in a poof of smoke leaving three shocked genin speechless.
"I was hoping that we would get our first mission directly from Lord Sixth" Hana whimpers slouches back in her hospital bed.
"This is our first mission, I am sure we will get to see Lord Kakashi when we leave," Kasai reassured his teammate.
Three days later at the gates of Konoha Hana and Kasai arrive at the gate around 5 minutes before they are going to set off. They look around to see five shinobi non of them probably older then 22, the first is a pale man with black straight hair that goes down in a fringe on the right side and center of his face almost to his nose. He has a large red scroll on his back and he seems to be somewhat arguing with a beautiful tall blonde woman with incredibly long hair in a purple attire that at first glance looks like a battle skirt. Just away from them is a rotund man with brown slightly spiked hair, marking on his face in a swirl pattern eating a family bag of popcorn. He seems to be having a far more pleasant discussion with a brunette girl with her hair in two buns. She is in a white battle dress that goes to just above her knees. She has two green scrolls on her back. Meanwhile, a man in a green bodysuit with black sheened hair and incredible large eyebrows does one finger push-ups.
The blonde woman is the first to notice them "Two of Anko's genin are here we can discuss this later, Sai!" she says with definitive force halting the argument with the pale man. She walks over to the two genin "It's a pleasure I am Ino Yamanaka, one of the Jonin who will be working with you" she says in an incredibly sweet and kind manner completely different to the woman that they saw meer moments earlier.
"The pleasure is ours miss Ino" Hana responds while Kasai looks the beautiful woman up and down a couple more times.
"Ye, a, pleasure," he says almost lost in her pale blue eyes.
A few moments of silence set in Before the man in the green jumpsuit announces "100!" after doing so he pushes off the ground and lands next to Ino. "It is a pleasure to meet such genin that overflow with THE POWER OF YOUTH, my name is Rock Lee, and much like my friend Ino I shall be one of the jonin accompanying you on your journey." The loud Jonin actually snaps Kasai from his staring at Ino and now both of the genin stare at rock lee with a befuddled look.
"I am sorry about him" the brunette girl announces. "We forget most people don't know how to handle Lee at first." She continues putting an arm around the loud jonin "My name is Ten Ten, I look forward to seeing what you kids got ok"
This is followed up by the rotund man coming over and still with his mouth full of food he mumbles "I'm Choji Akamichi, pleasure to meet ya."
With this, the pale man skulks over next to Ino "The name is Sai as I'm sure you heard, look forward to working with you."
"I am Hana Oharu and this is Kasai Hasamura," Hana says plainly still in a bit of shock.
Kasai seeing she isn't going to add anything quickly interjects with "We look forward to working with you." He says mainly looking at Ino once more.
The small amount of awkwardness still lingering in the air as maybe the only person Kasai or Hana knew that could match the energy of this Rock Lee as "So I'm guessing you're the jonin we are working with" can be heard as leaping off a nearby building lands Mari. "Wait you guys the old team 10 and 13 right and your Sai you worked with Naruto and Sakura on Team 7," Mari announces getting a bit too hyped up almost bouncing between them grabbing their hands and shaking profusely. "I have heard soooo much about you guys and the old Konoha 11, I can't believe I get to work with you all." She gleefully proclaims.
"This is the true feeling of THE SPRINGTIME OF YOUTH," Rock Lee announces getting incredibly pumped up. "WHAT IS YOUR NAME YOUTHFUL GENIN?" Rock Lee thunderously asks.
"I AM MARI SENJU, PLEASURE TO MEET YOU" the two claps hands and begin to tense up.
"YOU ARE FAIRLY STRONG MARI, I AM IMPRESSED AT HOW MUCH YOUTHFUL PASSION YOU EXHIBIT MISS SENJU" Lee announces beginning to get even more ecstatic.
"Lee calm it or this will be even more of a drag" a voice comes from behind them.
"Brat you better curb that bull-headed excitement five seconds ago or else we gonna have some problems" The familiar voice of Anko-Sensei also calls out.
"You were right Anko they definitely have the drive if miss Senju is anything to go by," A calm voice announces. The three genin turn to find Anko walking with Lord Sixth and a man with spiked black hair.
Trying to stifle her excitement Hana lets out a small "Eeeek" as she sees Kakashi.
Kakashi looks at all of the shinobi before him. "This is a dangerous mission and you are going into an active war to find and go against forces we don't fully understand the extent of yet. But you are shinobi of Konohagakure, you are shinobi of The Land of Fire and within each of you, I see today that same fiery will that has brought us through every trial, every battle and war. When I Kakashi Hatake the sixth Hokage look at all of you I am filled with hope. Good luck I know you will succeed."
A hope-filled silence hangs for several seconds "Anko, Shikamaru will take it from here." Kakashi states before disappearing.
"We will go to a port near the Land of Forests, from there we will split up with Me, Choji, Ino, Lee, Tenten, and Sai will go to the Land of Forests and get a boat to the south of the Land of Tea." Shikamaru proclaims gesturing to Anko to continue.
"My team and I will enter the Land of Tea via the Land route, we will cause as much noise to get noticed but not enough to be targeted too much. Doing this means they will have time to move Yoshinori further south and he will be panicked enough they have to bring out some of the big players." Anko dictates to the shinobi present as they begin to walk towards the south.
"Then Anko and her team will do recon before Anko joins us and the genin go with a few chunin to guard Kazaki. Then we strike to take out the stronger opponents and assassinateYoshinori." Shikamaru finishes the last of the overall plan. Best to leave battle tactics till the battles take place. With that, the group of 10 shinobi set off for the Land of Tea.
