Chapter 8 - The Snake Pit

Three days earlier, 20 miles away from the border with the Land of Forests. "This is where we part ways, for now, good luck with your part Anko" Shikimaru proclaims with an uninterested tone.

The ten shinobi stood across from one another and said their goodbyes to one another. The shinobi then parted in opposite directions, Anko, Mari, Kasai, and Hana made their way west.

"Listen, kids, this is probably going to be an incredibly dangerous mission," Anko told the genin. "Do exactly what I say and when I say it if you don't I will send you back to Konoha, from this point we are on high alert." The genin in response gave a determined nod to their sensei.

"We won't fail you or Konoha sensei," Kasai said with a powerful tone in his voice.

"We have your back Anko-sensei" Hana added.

"I know we got this" Mari finished with her normal enthusiasm.

Team 12 continued for a couple of dozen miles with only minor small talk between them. As all of them were on high alert searching for danger, by late afternoon the team seemed on edge more than usual. The woodlands around them seemed eerily quiet. The near-silence came to an end when the team jumped into a small clearing with a stream running through it. "Here is a good place to set up camp, were about thirty miles out from the Land of Tea, and I am not sure we will get a better place than this to rest, so you three get the camp set up and I will go hunting" Anko ordered, and the kids nodded in agreement.

Anko quickly set off into the surrounding woodland. "I'm so tired I almost want to sleep more than I need food" Hana muttered.

"I get you physically you barely feel anything but being on edge for so long really takes it out of you up here," Kasai says gesturing to his head with his thumb.

"I dunno something still feels really off about all this" Mari questions the scenario the leaf shinobi find themselves in. "I don't know I feel like we are being watched" she continues.

"Ye, I know what you mean Mari at least for the last couple hours. I have been feeling that we are being stalked ya know." Hanna adds, reaffirming Mari's point.

"You two are being over sensitive things are more than okay we are still in the Land of Fire, what's the chance that we would get ambushed in our own country," Kasai says in an attempt to reassure his team.

Meanwhile, Anko quickly makes her away from the camp by several miles. She lands in a relatively open clearing, as she does so quickly spinning around and throwing out a kick that catches a figure in the head. The figure is sent a couple of feet away before flipping as they do so revealing the face of the stalker. "Sasame Fuma" Anko growled. "I heard that you had fled the Land of Sound and been seen at Ryuchi Cave."

"Curse you leaf shinobi for what you did to Lord Orochimaru and Otogakure" Sasame hissed back at Anko. "You where is student, and you betray him like this. I will enjoy tearing you apart bitch."

Anko and Sasame both rush forward and clashing in a flurry of kicks. Both shinobi kick each other and flip over. Sesame launches herself at Anko with fury in her eyes, breaking past Anko's guard she grabs her by the throat and slams her into a tree shattering it in the process.

Anko coughs blood as her neck is almost crushed. "Fuck you, Orochimaru betrayed Otogakure and let you all rot. One of the few things the bastard did right, in my opinion." Anko proclaims through gritted teeth.

Sasame grips tighter around Anko's throat, "I am going to enjoy this more than I should" she sadistically proclaims.

Anko grabs her wrist with both hands. Quickly placing her feet on the tree behind her Anko jumps off. Doing so causing Sasame's grip to break as her arm is jerked behind her head. Anko with a brutal efficiency pulls a kunai and slits the throat of the snake sage. Using the reversed grips leverage, Anko throws Sasame at a tree with enough force to snap it. Sasame falls to the ground, letting out a blood gurgled laugh Sasame says "I think this was a nice enough diversion, next time you die Anko." After doing so she disperses into a pile of snakes revealing herself as a clone.

Anko looked around for several moments before shock overcame her expression "The kids"

Meanwhile "The camp is set" Mari happily proclaimed. "Just need to wait for Anko-sensei to return."

"What kind of food do you two think she went hunting?" Kasai questioned.

"Probably snake," Mari joked to her teammates.

"You're half right." A sinister voice came from the woods to the east.

"Dodge!" Hana screams.

The three genin leap into the air, as three snakes burst from the earth where they stood. Almost like a flash, compared to what the genin had seen until this point a pale woman with scale skin rushes out of the woods. She appears in front of Mari and swings at her with such force several cracks can be heard even before Mari is sent into the treeline.

Seeing the heavy melee hitter taken out in a single blow Kasai looks to Hana "Let's not start a fistfight what ranged jutsu you got" he mutters.

"I have been working on a thing, just give me a second" Hana responded.

"Ok" Kasai quickly made several hand signs and got readied several shuriken. "Fire Release: Fire Clone Jutsu" Kasai yelled out. Four bursts of flame shot up next to him revealing four clones each with 6 shuriken in their grasp. "Fire Release: Flame Shuriken Barrage" All five Kasai roared. Each one launched the 6 shuriken and lit them aflame.

The shuriken covered a large area making it almost impossible to not get hit by at least three shuriken. The Pale Woman decided to stand still and take the attack. Two shuriken pierced into her hands as she snatched them out of the air. Her neck elongated allowing her to dodge a third that almost took out her eye.

The six Kasai smiled in unison, "Gotcha bitch." They each proclaimed as they all pulled back on ninja wire they lit a flame. This caused all the shuriken to once again be wreathed in flames and launched towards The Pale Woman. Pulled forward with a surprised look twenty-three more shurikens pierced into her as the six Kasai trapped her in the flaming wire. "Hana whenever you are ready I don't know how long I can hold this bitch down." The six Kasai yelled at the preparing genin.

"Ok I'm ready" she responded as a clone that snuck around placed the second kunai and finished the hand seals. The original Hana also finishes the hand seals as both Hanas place a hand on the kunai and point at the other one through The Pale Women. A spark of electricity starts from the kunai in the tree behind the woman and begins to flow into the clone, the same happens on the ground to Hana herself when the two-point their fingers at the other one Hana calls out "Lightning Release: Violet Stream" a beam of violet electricity stretches across from Hana to the clone through the chest of the Pale Women. In unison, the two Hanas split the bean and move it in opposite directions nearly bisecting the woman.

With this, the woman coughs a large amount of blood, with what force she seems to have left she breaks out of the ninja wire as she falls to one knee her body tries to knit itself back together. "Impressive" she mutters.

Just as she beings to stand back to her feet an explosion comes from the left and rocketing out of the woods is Mari her right arm ignited in flames as her left begins to turn purple and blood runs down her face. "Fire Release: Flaming Hammer Strike" She roars out with enough rage-filled force her voice seems to crack. Spinning around in the air she lands a blow right to the face of the woman dropping her to the ground. The force of the impact begins to cause the ground to shatter as the woman's body impacts it. Then flames began to quickly flow into the ground and the woman from Mari's arm. The resulting exposition incinerates part of the ground and enlarges a 50 ft crater. With smoke and steam rising from it.

Standing up with steam rising from the right side of her body Mari looked around at the devastation caused by the battle. Kasai and Hana stand atop the crater and look down. "You ok Mari?" they ask in unison.

"Yes I am fine," Mari says while looking at what seems to be the charred corpse of the woman. After a couple of moments, she kicks the blackened pile, several charred snakes topple off one another revealing that they had been fighting a clone. A shocked look fills the three genins faces as they look upon the pile of snakes. "Look out!" Mari screams.

As soon as the words pour out of Mari's mouth, the ground begins to quake bellow each genin and holes open up and swallow them whole. Sasame walks out from the woods to the left of the battle and looked around. "That really was impressive, No wonder the Archon wants those three."
