Chapter 6 Talking to Alma.
"Before he died, he told me to find you. There was something he wanted us to know. He said you would explain everything to us." Jake said, looking at Savannah, who was now drinking her tea, looking a bit better. Alma looked at Jake and Savannah. They started walking into the backyard.
"That's absolutely true. But there are very few things I can't explain. We're what's known as peculiar. " Alma said before taking her watch outputting it in front of Fiona, who came running around the corner.
"51 seconds late, Fiona," Alma said. Fiona looked up at her.
"Sorry, Miss Peregrine, how many carrots do you need for supper?" Fiona said, looking at Miss Peregrine.
"Just one, Fiona," Alma said, watching Fiona run off but then turned her attention back to the siblings and saw a look of pure fascination on Savannah's face watching Fiona growing a carrot. Alma smiled.
"As I was saying, some people are peculiar. It's a gene carried down through families. But some can pass without a peculiar child being born." Alma said, looking at Jake.
"I'm a ymbryne, which means." Alma started before Jake interrupted.
"You turn into a bird," Jake said. Alma smiled.
"Yes, I do, but that's not very useful. A ymbrynes main skill is the manipulation of time. We choose a safe place, a safe place, and create a loop. A loop preserves the last 2 hours reset it daily. You can stay there forever." Alma said to Jake, then turned to Savannah to see her listening.
Bronwyn came around the corner.
"Right on time, Bronwyn," Alma said, watching Bronwyn carry the carrot inside.
"That's why we ymbrynes are charged with taking care of the young," Alma told the siblings.
"No one ever gets older," Jake said, looking at Savannah, who was taking the news well. Savannah had drunk her drink. Alma looked over to see Savannah put her cup on the table and taking Jake's cup out of his hand when he wasn't looking. Alma laughed, watching what Savannah was doing.
"It's best for everyone this way, I assure you. Every ymbryne commits herself to create and upkeep a place like this, a home for peculiar children." Alma said, putting her cup next to Savannah's. She went to get the cup from Savannah, but she showed her that she hadn't finished it.
