This is a continuation of chapter 10 as you can probably tell with part 2 in the title and sorry again about the wait hope you enjoy.
The Shadow Hidden beneath part 2
Two explosions from each of the crystalline vats, stepping out is both of the men in the red and black armor. Now she is able to see it in more detail Mari can see a red Rinne Sharingan carved into the chest plate on both men. Griping the katana even tighter it ignites in a large flame as Mari waits for the oncoming attacks. The large man closes his eyes and seems to tense up clearly channeling chakra. Mari readies to dodge whatever attack is being prepared, however, it is the slender man who attacks first, his eyes glowing a hot blue and white with sparks of electricity running across his body. Attempting to swing at Mari with a wild attack but narrowly missing her as she sidesteps. Mari in response swings the flaming blade up to sever the man's arm at the elbow but in a blur, the man avoids the blow appearing halfway across the large room instantaneously.
Mari who let herself become preoccupied with the slender man is abruptly reminded of the larger man's presence, as he screams out in a crazed and pained voice "DIE!" Mari turns back just in time to see him open his eyes to reveal them burning like roaring furnaces. Almost as soon as she sees this an eruption of flame strikes at Mari, she quickly responds by slashing at the wave of fire. The flaming sword and Mari are engulfed by flame even further before the fire of both the blade and the attack is carried away by her strike sending it toward the slender man who dodges and once again goes on the offensive.
Appearing next to Mari he once again swings wildly at the young girl, the attacks even though moving far quicker than she can really keep up with due to the overly telegraphed strikes Mari is able to plan and block ahead of time. Mari, however, is unable to land a blow on the man as he is able to easily react to her own attacks. Using this knowledge and not wishing this to turn into a battle of attrition given she being outnumbered, Mari strikes at his head causing him to duck the strike, she quickly follows up by turning the blade and bringing it down making him move to the side, then she moves the katana diagonally up at the man forcing him to leap into the air and over the girl. Mari smirks having him in the position she wanted, quickly spinning around while he is still airborne she delivers a brutal kick to his sternum sending him through an adjacent wall with a sickening crack.
Turning to face the bigger man she finds that while she was once again preoccupied he has closed the distance and is swinging a haymaker at her. Mari tucks her head in and brings her left arm up to cover her side and head, the blow lands pushing Mari back a couple of feet. Turning to face the large man Mari quickly feels the pain of the blow hit her and falls to one knee coughing up blood. "What the hell?" she mutters while wiping the blood from her mouth then spitting the rest out. The large man quickly rushes forward but his speed is dramatically slower than Mari and the slender man, seeing the large strike coming Mari leaps and spins around the fist striking at the arm while doing so but finding the blade unable to cut through properly at least without putting chakra into it.
The large man screams out and goes for a barrage of punches causing Mari to go back on the defense, but this time she makes an effort not to be caught by surprise so she keeps checking the other man isn't jumping back into the fight. Dancing around a hammer strike from the big man she twists around and goes to slash at his heels. Making sure to channel chakra into the attack she slashes at the man's heels but is stopped before the attack can connect as the slender man blitzes back into the fight forcing Mari to slash at him instead. He ducks the blow and kicks Mari in the back, the attack is followed up by another dojutsu style attack from the big guy this time engulfing the stunned gennin in a tidal wave of flame.
Meanwhile, Hana and Kasai slowly make their way to the storage area hearing the sound of combat behind them exemplified by a giant explosion and less than a minute later the sound of a wall shattering. The two gennin getting their wherewithal back silently contemplate returning but just as they are about to they spot the storage room and more importantly the guard who also spots them. "You two," he says in a startled voice. He has a black combat vest on with a headband on his head displaying the face of an oni. Seeing the two half-naked gennin he throws a kunai at them, Hana who even still in her sluggish state is the quicker of the two tackles, Kasai, to the ground landing atop him, the two look at each other with Hana going red in the face before Kasai rolls over allowing them to avoid another kunai. Now really beginning to wake up Kasai grabs one of the kunai and charges the guard, the two go back and forth being relatively even in melee combat. Hana seeing this stands up and grabs the broken kunai that snapped as it hit the wall behind them. She waits for an opening in the melee as Kasai and the guard battle each other. Kasai goes to strike the man who sidesteps and Kasai's kunai brakes upon the wall, quickly turning around Kasai grabs the wrist of the guard who is trying to plunge a kunai into his chest. Kasai struggles with all the might he can currently muster but the blade gets ever closer to his chest. The point of the weapon begins to draw blood as it digs into his chest, Kasai clenches his teeth with almost enough force to crack them.
With a crackle of electricity, the side of the guard's neck ruptures loosening his grip on his weapon. The broken kunai from Hana shatters upon hitting the wall after slicing through the guards' neck. Kasai snatches the kunai from his hands and slashes into the neck wound tearing through the remaining muscles and bones severing it from his shoulders.
Slumping against the wall as blood pools on the floor around the body Kasai looks up at Hana. "You mind taking a look, imma rest here for a couple minutes," Kasai asks with puppy dog eyes. As Kasai politely asks Hana about the room a thunderous explosion rocks the building they are in causing fine dust-like debris to fall upon them. "Make that a few seconds lets get our stuff and rush back" Kasai tiredly proclaims to Hana getting an emphatic nod in response.
The smoke clears revealing Mari with her right shoulder blackened, bloodied, and slightly bubbling from the heat. Standing up the burns go up to her neck and down her side and onto her back. With a hate-filled grimace on her face, Mari picks up the slightly melted katana, closes her eyes, and flicks the blade wreathing it in flames once more. The slender man rushes forward but almost as quickly is forced back to avoid a wave of fire sent out from a slash of Mari's blade. The large man leaps in the way seeming being taken over by fire before it is sucked into his eyes allowing him to immediately fire off that flame dojutsu he uses. Mari rushes past the eruption of flame that appeared before her and charges at the large man swinging her blade up and taking out his left eye. A pain-filled scream echoes through the compound shortly before Mari kicks him in the side of the head sending him hurtling past the slender man, who charges back in putting Mari back on the defense at least for now. With several quick strikes he sends Mari through the destroyed wall he was sent through minuets ago.
Mari slams into another wall and slumps down breathing heavily and opening her eyes once more just to see the slender man appear in front of her and strike her with a knee to the face. Being sent up several feet Mari stops herself by standing on the wall. She spits blood at the slender man before calling out "Fire Release: Fireball Jutsu".
The huge ball of flame goes hurtling towards the slender man. He bearly manages to make it to the edge of the explosion, the fight clearly taken it out of him just as much as it has Mari. Mari crouches on the wall and readies the once more flaming blade, as the man now burnt stands up and pulls out a kunai that is quickly surrounded by electricity. Mari takes a depth breath and closes her eyes as she chakra begins to pulse and her body tenses. The two leap at each other time seemingly slowing down as they pass each other and strike.
Moments later they stand back to back as the flames on the katana and the lightning on the kunai sputter out and die. The katana after being put through an immense amount of pressure shatters as Mari falls to her knees blood pouring out of her already burnt shoulder and neck. The slender man also falls to his knees and holds his chest before fully collapsing to the ground lifeless.
Mari breaths heavily while trying to resist the overwhelming need to collapse. She knows in the back of her mind the large man isn't dead and she will be if she can't get up. Attempting to stand quickly results in her falling to the ground her body unwilling or unable to withstand the strain it has been put under.
Mari looks up as a shadow looms over her and a single blazing orange eye glares at her with unbridled fury. The large man lifts Mari up by the skull with a single hand as she weakly whimpers within his grasp, he squeezes and begins the attempt to crush her skull.
