Chapter 10, Packing.
Savannah's father didn't look happy with Jake, but she left it, Jake would tell her later. Savannah walked out the door and headed back to the house. Claire opened the door and smiled when she saw that it was Savannah. She grabbed her hand and pulled her upstairs gently. Alma was walking from the parlor and smiled when she saw Claire walking up the stairs with Savannah. Alma walked into the kitchen, taking care of Miss Avocet.
After playing with the children, Savannah walked back downstairs and went into the parlor, where she had a nap. Jake came back to the house and confronted Alma about how he found the night that Jake and Savannah stayed for dinner. Alma was not happy.
"That was a private letter, Jake," Alma said before she walked out of the kitchen. Enoch showed Jake Victor. Jake ran out of the room and down the stairs. The children were waiting for him; it was time to go for a walk to the beach. Alma stayed to make sure Savannah was fine, but also she had Miss Avocet to look after.
Emma showed Jake the secret place she liked to go, and it was a ship that had been sunk. Emma got out photos of people when Jake told her that he saw someone with white eyes that day his grandfather died. They went back to the house, Jake not believing he was peculiar. Emma floated above a hedge and told Jake to climb up.
Jake climbed up the hedge and saw Miss Peregrine standing there with a crossbow. Emma told him about what happened the day Victor died. Jake saw the hollow and was about to shout out. When a hand went over his mouth, he turned to his left and saw Savannah next to him and was about to shout about her being up there while pregnant when he looked down and saw Bronwyn lifting her. Both Savannah and Jake could see the hollows.
Jake, Savannah, and Emma walked back into the house where Emma told Miss Peregrine about Jake and Savannah seeing the hollows. She got Emma to get her book. Alma looked at the sibling.
"I knew you both were peculiars the day you were each born, but your grandfather forbid me from saying anything," Alma said. Emma came back with the book and told them the history of Mr. Barron and his friends. Olive came into the room.
"Miss Peregrine, come quickly. Miss Avocet is awake," Olive said. Alma rushed out of the room with Emma, Savannah, and Jake behind her. Alma hugged Miss Avocet.
"We are not safe. They set their machine up in my loop. They want to try the experiment again, but they are using more ymbrynes." Miss Avocet said. Jake told Miss Peregrine about sheep being killed on the island. Alma panicked and told the children to pack. Savannah grabbed Claire's hand, and they went upstairs.
Savannah helped Claire pack. Savannah went to help the other younger ones pack when Jake grabbed her, and they left. Alma saw Jake taking Savannah with him while Savannah was trying to stay to help. Alma went to grab Savannah, but they were too far away. Alma was upset that Jake wouldn't let Savannah help.
