I thought it must have been the sunshine rays from the open window near me that woke me up as I yawned. I saw I was right. It was the sun that woke me up and and I saw that it was once again going to be another beautiful day. I got up out of my wooden bed and left my lovely wife Chel to her beauty sleep. Sunshine or not, waking up next to Chel always brightened up my day. Seeing her and our beloved six year old son Benito in his own bed was always a blessing to me every day. I quietly got up and made sure I didn't wake up my family who was still asleep. I headed out of our small stone house and into the lovely warm air, taking a deep breath.

"Morning, Tulio."

I jumped and turned to see my best friend Miguel outside his own stone house. It was identical to mine because we built them together at the same time. They were the same heights, same widths, made out of the same stones and they were only ten metres apart from each other. The only difference was that I had a family living with me in it while he was living all alone. Between our two houses was the stable for our horse Altivo. It was quite small for a horse his size, but he could sleep in it and eat and drink, so he didn't complain. Well, at least, none of us could hear him huff or puff or anything of the sort.

Miguel was already on Altivo with our hunting and fishing bags. "Another beautiful day, eh?"

"Yes, it is, Miguel," I said. "But not beautiful enough to wake my family up!"

"I'm sorry. I thought that because you're up that Chel and Benito would also –"

"Well, obviously, you thought wrong," I said. Then my tummy rumbled. "Come on, I'm hungry. Let's go and hunt some breakfast."

I jumped on Altivo and we left our houses to start our hunting. Our houses were the only houses on the island we were living on. Miguel, Chel, Benito and I were the only human beings on it and Altivo was the only horse and it had always been like that since we discovered this island three years ago. It had been six years ago since we left Spain and had our adventures discovering and saving both El Dorado and Arendelle. Since then, we tried to head back to Spain, but we came to a place called Kumandra and lived there for three years. That was where Chel and I got married (with Miguel as my best man and Raya and Sisu, who were our best friends in Kumandra, as Chel's bridesmaids) and where Chel gave birth to our son Benito. He was named after my father.

We were happy living in Kumandra for three wonderful years. We had a good house, good food, good healthy water and were surrounded by nature. But it all came to an end when some monsters tried to attack the realm. We helped the warriors fight them off as we could, but when we tried to lure the monsters away to sea with our boat that we sailed from Arendelle we were sailed away from Kumandra too far that we couldn't find it ever again.

So we sailed to find a new home and luckily we found this tropical island that no was living on. The only thing we had to do was build our houses of rocks left around. There was plenty of animals like squirrels, rabbits and birds to hunt, there were plenty of trees and bushes growing fruit and we had a boat and some fishing nets to go fishing. I felt like we had all we needed. No other people to worry about or to rule over, no guards chasing us and we had all the freedom in the world. Living with my family and my best friend on an island all to ourselves, I felt that I had all I needed in my life and I felt I was a king or sometimes a god. I look back and think giving up all that gold in El Dorado to save it from Cortez, his army and Tzekel-Kan was one of the best things I ever did in my life because it helped me finally get over my gold obsession.

But just because we had a wonderful life on this island didn't mean it was perfect. There was always the odd problem. One example was when we didn't seem to have much luck hunting or harvesting like today. It was always sunny on this island, which we still didn't name. Even during winter, though we could usually tell whether it was getting a bit cooler or not. For the last three years, we lost track on whether it was autumn where everything stopped growing and the animals hibernated or spring where everything started to grow and the animals were starting to come out. Due to the warm weather, I thought it was too hot to be winter. But still we couldn't find anything as we rode on Altivo and searched the whole island.

By the time we came to the beach, we just gave up. Then Miguel had an idea. "We haven't tried fishing yet."

He was right. We hadn't tried that yet and it seemed to be the right time of the day to do it. "Good idea. Let's do it."

We were about to grab our fishing bag from Altivo, but he ran off and neighed loudly. We started to run after him.

"What's gotten into the horse?" I asked.

"I think he might have heard something," Miguel said. "And judging by his neighing, it must be very worrying."

When we caught up with Altivo, we found him hiding behind our boat. It had been the only one on this beach since we arrived on this island but today it wasn't. We saw more ships and they were enough to be a fleet. The sailors from them didn't look like warriors, though I always knew no one could be too careful. We had never seen anybody like them before or their ships. We didn't know who they were or where they came from.

"Excuse me," Miguel called as he started to walk to them.

I pulled him back and we hid back behind the ship. "What are you doing?"

"Just checking they mean no harm," Miguel replied.

"Oh, I'm sure their hidden spears or whatever weapons they might have don't mean harm either," I said.

"We don't have any weapons."

Miguel and I turned to see one of the women from the fleet close to us. We jumped, gasped and backed away.

The woman just smiled. "I'm sorry if I scared you. My people and I just need somewhere to live."

Miguel started to smile and approached her. "Well, you and your people are deeply welcome –"

"Hold on, Miguel." Then I turned to the lady. "First of all, my name is Tulio and this is Miguel. What's your name, my good lady?"

"I am Moana, Chief of Motunui," she replied. "We come in peace."

"So, Chief Moana, may I ask what you and your people are doing away from your home?" Miguel asked.

Moana looked very sad.

"If you don't want to talk about it," Miguel said, "we won't make you."

"Like he said, we won't make you," I said, "but the more you tell us, the more we can help you."

Moana took a deep breath and bravely began her story. She had been chief of Motunui for five years since she and demigod Maui saved the world by returning the heart of the goddess Te Fiti. Her people had been living peacefully on their island and exploring other islands since she became chief. Then only a few weeks ago, there were some monsters that came from where no one knew and they attacked her village. While Maui arrived to fight the monsters, she took her people on their boats to evacuate to safety. She managed to save most of her people, but among those that she couldn't save was her parents. I could tell on her face she was still sad. She continued to say that she and her people travelled to the other islands, but they were invaded by monsters as well. So they had no choice but to sail to find an island.

"We couldn't find any other island before this one," Moana said. "So, please, I'm begging you, for my people's sake. Can we please build our next village on your island? We'll do anything. What we grow and fish, we'll share with you. We'll build our village where you tell us to build. We'll live by your laws. Please. Anything."

"Well…" I began as I tried to make my mind up. "For now, you and your people can rest from your journey."

"Thank you," Moana said, before she returned to her people.

"Come on, Miguel." We headed back to the ship, where we found Chel and Benito, fully dressed. Chel was wearing her beautiful red dress and golden sandals from Kumandra and Benito was wearing his green shirt, brown trousers and golden sandals from the same place.

"What's going on, Tulio?" Chel asked.

"We have some visitors, Chel," I told her. As I told them Moana's story, I tried to think what to do for the best, but I couldn't.

"I say we let them stay here," Miguel said. "You know they were forced to leave their islands and this is the closest they managed to find in a long, long, long, long, long, long…"

"Okay, Miguel, I get the point," I said. "What you seem to be forgetting is that it was monsters that drove them away. I'm not sure if I believe it or not – don't any of you tell Moana and her people that – but if they are real and they are following them, they could find them here and it might attack us and our home."

"They said they'd do anything to live here," Miguel said. "They're willing to live under our laws. Moana's own words."

"Well, you'd better not be playing gods again like you did in El Dorado," Chel warned us.

"No way, Chel." Like I wanted to anyway. Playing gods in El Dorado was dangerous and life-risking enough.

"I have to say I must take Uncle Miguel's side here, Dad," Benito said. "These people need a place to live just like we needed three years ago. And if these monsters come here, we'll could help them. After all, you've all been fighters your whole lives. Spain, El Dorado, Arendelle, Kumandra, everywhere you go."

I was always amazed at how bright my son was.

"And I think it's good to socialise with these people," Chel said. "Especially for Benito. He needs to learn how to make friends on his own."

"Okay," I said. "Just so we're crystal clear, this is a unanimous decision between us that they can stay, right?"

Chel, Benito, Miguel and Altivo nodded.

"Right. Before we go and tell them the good news, where can we allow them to build their village?"

We started to think again. Then Benito once again had an idea.

"The bare land, where we tried growing a lot of things, but we never had any success," he suggested. "Since it grows nothing there and it's hard ground, they could build their homes there."

Everything he said about the bare land was true and I thought his suggestion could work.

"Well, judging by the size of the people," Miguel said, looking at them, "the bare land could be big enough for them."

I tried to think of other options, but I couldn't. Letting them build their village on the bare land was another unanimous decision. Whether they liked the idea or not would be a different matter, but there was only one way to find out. We approached Moana and her people.

"Chief Moana, we have decided that you and your people are welcome to live on our island," I said.

Everyone cheered and thanked us.

"And we know the spot for building your new village. So, if you care to just follow us…"

As we led our new friends to the spot, I introduced Moana to my wife Chel and my son Benito.

It took Moana and her people only ten minutes to look around the bare land we took them to. Then she came back to us.

"This spot will do just fine for us," Moana said.

We were all relieved.

"Thank you all so much, Chief Tulio, Chief Miguel, Chief Chel and Master Benito," Moana said, bowing to us.

"You're welcome, Chief Moana," we all said, bowing back.

"Right, well, good luck with building your new village," I said.

We started to head back to our house. Chel and Bentio managed to find some blackberries, apples and bananas on their way to me and Miguel. Then I noticed that Miguel was still with Moana and her people. "You're coming with us, Miguel?"

"No, I'm good," he said. "I'll catch you guys up later."

"Okay." As my family and I continued to head back, I started to wonder about Miguel. I didn't think he had been the same since his adventures in Arendelle. He never admitted it, but I didn't think he had forgotten or stopped dreaming about Queen Elsa. I was glad he decided to re-join us, but I thought deep down inside of him he might regretted leaving her. While we were living in Kumandra, he had tried dating Raya and seemed to really be in love with her and he got very upset when he couldn't get back to her. For the last three years, he had been single and I thought he was trying to find another girlfriend. Then I thought what his next date would be Moana. If I was right, I couldn't imagine that relationship really working, but I wasn't going to stop him if he wanted to try. I just wanted my very best friend to be happy as I was with my family.
