Chapter 16 - A Little Bit of Hospitality
As Rai grabs Hanabi by the throat and forces her onto her knees a euphoric feeling begins to wash over him. He thinks to himself 'This was tougher than it should have been but it was fun.' As this goes through his mind his guard drops and a smile etches across his face.
Out of nowhere, Rai is kicked in the face by an attack almost as strong as the one delivered by his three opponents working together, and exhausting themselves mere moments ago.
As Rai wearily shakes off this attack and shakily gets back to his feet, he looks at his attacker to see Anko Mitarashi in snake sage mode. "You!?" He says with a shocked expression.
"I am going to kill you for hurting my students," Anko says with a cold fury. "I already killed one sage on the way to this war, what's another one now" she continues.
"You killed Sasame," Rai says before pausing. After a moment or two, he bursts out laughing "That bitch escaped you and went back to that serpent den, Ryƫchi Cave" He cackles at Anko "But I must thank you for kicking her ass, if you didn't I wouldn't have got the chance to fight this lot" Rai finishes with a wicked grin.
Anko rushes forward at Rai who barely blocks the attack and pushes Anko away. "You, I won't let escape" Anko hisses at Rai.
"I already have," Rai proclaims with a dark smile. At this Anko charges once more but Rai reverse summons himself and disappears in a poof of smoke that Anko bursts apart as she kicks at where he just was.
Anko lands slamming her foot into the ground, to stop her forward motion. The ground underneath her almost instantly shatters from the force of her impacting the earth bellow her. As this happens she spins round and deactivates sage mode, her skin regains color and the purple markings around her eyes disappear.
Quickly Anko rushes towards the injured shinobi. Taking them one by one she places them on her back. Doing this gets a mumbled groan from the young shinobi as they are piled on her back. Anko crouches and leaps off running back to the forward camp using body flicker.
Sometime later Kasai wakes up, his head thumping and his vision blurry. A cool breeze wafts through his scruffy white hair, as he slowly begins to sit up and take in the world around him. He sees a wooden lodge-like room, the humming of monitoring equipment buzz in the air creating an almost stagnant atmosphere. This however is overshadowed by the purring and then snoring of Anko who is sat asleep in an old brown leather chair a tray of eaten food resting on a small round table next to her. As his vision scans the room he sees Hanabi who is still unconscious and Hana who seems to be starting to stir awake.
Hana opens her eyes and shoots up glancing around the room with her navy-blue eyes scanning for threats before quickly realizing she was in some kind of hospital room as her, Kasai, and Hanabi all seem to be in hospital gowns. She settles her gaze on Kasai as the two eyesight locks with one another. "Do you know what happened?" Hana asks weakly.
"The last thing I remember was Hanabi activating Rotation," Kasai responded rubbing the back of his head. "But given the fact we are alive means we won right, right?" he continues shrugging his shoulders.
Hana points over to their sensei "I have a feeling she won not us."
"You are probably right," Kasai says falling back onto his pillow.
"That was so scary" Hana mutters.
"Ye, I haven't been that scared since the Akatsuki attacked the Konoha" Kasai adds.
"You were there when Pain attacked?" Hana questions.
"Ye I have lived in the village my whole life" Kasai responses in an almost offended tone. "My family and I were one of the first to be evacuated, as the attack started far from my house."
"My family wasn't so lucky" Hana proclaims. "Both my parents died in the attack and were brought back after." she continues starting to well up with tears.
Looking up at her once more Kasai gently says "You don't have to continue if you don't want."
Hana sniffs and wipes her eyes "Thanks, I'm just gonna go back to sleep, talk later okay" she says just before laying down and attempting to go back to sleep. Kasai with a solemn look also lays back and begins to sleep once more.
Meanwhile, a man with short brown hair and a large white coat on walks down a white hallway as a sterile air fills his nostrils, he puts a mask over his mouth and nose.
He continues to walk a few meters before turning down another hallway to his left. Looking down this hallway he sees four other people three women and one man in similar garb to himself standing or sitting outside a wooden door with a faint green glow coming from the room beyond.
"What's happened here for four of my best doctors to send for my help," the man says in an agitated tone.
"We are all almost out of chakra and the patient's condition has barely improved sir," a short woman with a light brown ponytail speaks up.
"How is that possible" the man exclaims while raising his voice.
"She has more chakra than anyone I have ever seen, if I didn't read the result and see it first hand I wouldn't believe it, sir, I am not sure I even do now," the woman says sliding down the wall exhausted.
"Is the consultant form the leaf in there?" The man asks the group of doctors.
"Yes sir, she is in there" a young man with shaggy blonde hair answers in an exhausted tone.
The man opens the door and looks toward the bed where he sees a girl that has dark blue and black hair with horrific burns and scars down her entire body lying unconscious. A woman stands over her in black and white robes with a mesh under layer, she has her hands on the girl's stomach, while a white and blue slug lay on the girl's chest and both the slug and the woman's hands glow a soothing green light.
"Miss Shizune, Is everything alright," The man asks in a gentler tone.
"I - I can't hold it anymore," Shizune says before falling to her knees the large man rushes forward stopping her fall. "Thank you, Doctor Shimura," Shizune says weakly.
Doctor Shimura places Shizune on a chair in the corner of the room and looks over the patient charts "These injuries should have killed her" he mumbles before looking at her chakra network. A look of shock and awe crosses his face "What the hell is she?" he asks like it's an impossible question.
"This girl has two distinct sources of chakra within her body," a soft voice responds to the doctor's question although he doesn't recognize it.
"Who said that?" the man asks while glancing around the room.
"I did" the slug on the girl's chest responds.
"A summon, I haven't seen one like you before." the man says examining the slug.
"I am Lady Katsuyu, we have more pressing matters than me, namely the state of this girl," the slug says in an annoyed tone. "I happen to know quite a lot about her as I have known her for some time." the slug continues.
"Ok, so you know why her condition has barely improved?" Shimura asks hopefully.
"I do," Katsuyu responds. "Simply put she has too much chakra, If you include both sources of chakra which are both hers, then she has similar levels of chakra to a tailed beast like the Gobi," Katsuyu finishes.
"That's insane so she much be a Jinchuriki to have this amount of chakra," Shimura says in a panicked tone.
"No, no both sources of chakra are completely hers the thing is until recently the one in her chest was sealed away, This as well as the amount she has used and is subconsciously still using to keep herself alive means we can't heal her at least as we are now, I would need to manifest far more of myself to heal her and the only two people that can are a week away at earliest." Katsuyu proclaims with an ever saddening tone.
"Maybe if both me, Shizune, and the doctors outside here give you our chakra when we ourselves have it back maybe you could heal her at least improve her out of a critical condition?" Shimura asks hopefully.
"That could work it might at least get her recovering on her own" Katsuyu says confidently.
"So that's the plan," Shimura says with a smile before placing a hand on Katsuyu "I will give you half my chakra now to at least help with keeping her alive until we can help you further." with that Katsuyu glows slightly larger as she continues to heal Mari.
