The Next Sannin: Chapter 17 - Sensei's Intense Training
Anko awakens in her chair and slowly looks at her Hanabi and her wounded students, a solemn expression crosses her face as she does so. Standing up she wonders over to Hana's bed and sits on its edge. "How are you doing kid," Anko asks the genin who still lies awake.
"Not great sensei," Hana quietly responds.
Anko places a hand on the girls head "I'm sorry, I didn't expect this, I didn't want this," Anko says as doubt fills her words.
"Sensei, this isn't your fault you couldn't have known" Hana quietly reassures Anko.
"It's still my job to protect you kids, and this time I failed," Anko says while looking away. As she says this a silence falls of the room and Anko looks away with anger towards her failure welling within her. The room's silence fills the gap between the two kunoichi, both of them a grim and saddened look sprawls across their faces.
After a few moments, Anko stands up and slaps her cheeks before walking forward to the door. Hana looks up with a puzzled expression at her sensei, she is about to speak but before words can leave her lips Anko loudly proclaims. "Listen up brats, Starting tomorrow we will begin our training," this announcement quickly startles both Kasai and Hanabi awake. "Hana and Kasai I have been told that you will both be back in fighting condition by then. Meet me 1 mile north of the town, noon sharp, if you're late there will be hell to pay" she continues before slamming the door.
Hanabi looks towards the other two and bursts out laughing "Good luck, I haven't ever seen her that serious" she lays while holding her ribs. "If I laugh anymore I think I will reopen my wounds" she continues as her bellicose laughter turns into a pained chuckle before she lays back down.
Hana and Kasai just look at each other with a mix of shock, fear, and excitement. "You ready," Kasai says with a fire behind his eyes.
Hana returning his gaze with a similar intensity as a crackle of electricity flashes in her eyes "I am always ready," she says with a devilish grin.
The next day at noon the two genin walk into a clearing in the woods exactly one mile north of the town that they were treated at. As they clear the final few trees they see Anko standing her back facing them on the large stream that runs through the clearing on the other side of the opening. An uncommonly warm breeze blows through the clearing given the late time of year but then again they are in an even warmer climate than what they used to.
As the breeze blows past them it flows toward Anko confirming their presence to the meditating shinobi. "Show me!" she demands in a thunderous tone. She turns around and walks off the stream and begins to walk towards her students.
"Show us what?" Kasai shouts in confusion. This response makes Anko's right eye twitch in anger. Hana however understands what her sensei wants and quickly draws her blade. Seeing this Kasai looks even more confused.
"Take a leaf from your teammate Kasai, and show me the fake power you have been given," Anko says in a stern tone. Hana in response rushes forward her base speed even without the Raijingan surpassing her previous speed even while using lightning jutsu. Anko however also rushes forward and easily dodges to the side kicking her aggressive student away.
After a couple of moments, Kasai shocked expression grows even larger as Anko appears in front of him kneeing him in the gut. "Really, I know the power you gained is fake but is this all that accomplished," Anko says almost spitefully while she lazily kicks Kasai into the treeline.
Hana stands back up gripping her tanto even tighter and runs lightning chakra through it. "I will show you how fake my power is sensei," she says a fury and fire within her eyes.
Anko seeing this looks stunned for a moment before smiling, "Oh, I can see the conviction in your eyes Hana, this might just be worth it."
At this Hana rushes toward Anko once more at an even higher speed, Anko in return also charges forward the two clashing and moving past one another and then charging again. After several cycles of this, the two lock blades as Anko block an attack from Hana's blade with a kunai. The two struggle for a moment before Anko begins to overpower her pupil.
Hana tries to kick Anko but she brings her knee up to intercept the strike, moments after Anko pushes forward with her weight causing Hana to fall backward and the lock to break. Anko lifts her right hand disarming Hana and then punches down with the left slamming the girl into the ground.
Anko steps away from the girl with a disappointed look on her face until from her side she hears the explosion of a fireball jutsu roaring towards her. Anko in response fires a snake from her arm and yells "Good Kasai, now you're getting into it."
The snake collides and then consumes the fireball before turning orange and flying toward Kasai who leaps away avoiding the explosion from its landing. Kasai rolls a few meters and stands up, "How much did you hold back in the bell test sensei." he says with a small tremble in his voice.
Shaking her head Anko says "You did great in the bell test, you passed its true meaning of teamwork and you surpassed the level of power I expected you to handle. You can't ask questions like that It will just get you down but you two have been given power If I am to challenge you to get stronger I must now know your limits." just after she says this she charges forward almost taking the boy's head off with a jump kick if he hadn't dodged.
Kasai once more rolling along the ground pushes up just to avoid a snake crashing into the dirt below him. Kasai makes the hand signs and his right hand begins to glow a white and orange color. Falling back to the ground he decapitates the snake bellow him with a chop before charging Anko.
He swipes at Anko but she has a clear speed advantage and dodges his powerful strikes. After dodging a strike to her shoulder Anko kicks Kasai away and leaps back. Kasai smirks and brings his hands together causing both of them to glow. Anko's smile grows even larger seeing this and then hearing the crackle of electricity grows from behind her. Glancing back she sees Hana's eyes glowing purple with electricity emitting from them. Hana catches Anko in the back and sends her flying toward Kasai who punches straight into and through his sensei's shoulder.
As this happens Anko drops to one knee and Kasai's hands stop glowing. His eyes widen as he looks at what he has done. Anko's hair covers her face as Kasai looks down, his face displaying a look of shock. Hana runs over and looks at her sensei with an equally shocked look. The two share glances as their shock grows into worry and horror.
"How, could we, kill out sensei," Kasai yells.
After a few more moments as that statement fills the air a small chuckle can be heard. Hana is the first to notice as she looks down Anko melts away into a mound of snakes. Kasai seeing this leaps into the air screaming "SHE TURNED INTO SNAKES!"
The snakes slither over to the water where Anko emerges unharmed, a smile on her face. The snakes rejoin her and merge into her body. "Impressive you two, you beat that clone with almost no problems when you got serious," she says a smirk plastered on her face.
"I did say I would show you my power," Hana retorts.
Anko laughs hard at this remark. "You definitely did kid and you easily out preformed Kasai over there" this remark shocks Kasai and makes Hana smile.
"Well I am the better shinobi but my new eyes are what really gives me the edge," Hana says confidence beaming from her.
This remark makes Anko shake her head and look at her pupils with a stern look "Your fake power is stronger than I thought, but the thing that sets you apart is your conviction. Whether you realize it or not you have a Nindō, Kasai doesn't."
"Whats a Nindo Anko-sensei?" Kasai asks with a puzzled look.
"I think my dad mentioned it a couple of times but I don't know what it is either," Hana says contemplating Anko's words.
"Your Nindō is your ninja way, it's your personal belief, dream, and philosophy. Some people say that when powerful shinobi battle they converse with chakra. To simply put my message shinobi battles are fought on three pillars, Tactics, Strength, and Nindō. Only when you have all three can you truly be a great shinobi" Anko lectures to the two genin.
"But how is Nindō a pillar of shinobi battling, it's not a weapon," Hana asks, sitting down.
"When shinobi battle they test each other's philosophy and conviction, some like Naruto Uzumaki takes this a step further, and actively tries to change people's opinions and alter their Nindō." Anko continues her lecture. "Anyway back to training, you both rested enough," Anko finishes cracking her neck.
The three battle for almost an hour, Kasai and Hana near exhausting themselves by the end. Hana was just faster than Anko and Kasai's scorch style was had more destructive power. This however was not enough as Anko dodges, blocked, and parried all of the attacks sent her way. Anko ended the battle by tanking a Brilliant palm strike from Kasai by going into sage mode. With this, she called an end to the fight and praised her student's strength.
"Good work you two, now let's go back to the town, dinner is on me," Anko says a smile beaming across her face as she picks up both her battered students off the destroyed ground.
Less than an hour later the three are sitting at a table in a small restaurant each one eating to fill the appetite they worked up in that day's training. "Thanks for the food Anko-sensei, and for the training," Hana says a smile on her face.
"Ye, the foods great and I am sure that after the pain wears off tomorrow I will feel a tonne stronger," Kasai says in a joking tone.
Anko laughs at these remarks almost choking on her food while doing so. After a minute of coughing and spluttering, she cracks a smile and looks at her student. "I am glad, tomorrow will be a bit lighter for you, now I know what you need to work on" this gets the attention of both her students.
"So what will we be working on sensei," Hana asks politely.
"Hana, we need to work on you getting complete control of your eyes and speed, Kasai we will work a little bit on taijutsu and then on some long-range offense and a bit more chakra improvement," Anko answers before diving right back into her meal. The three continue to eat there meal in peace and enjoying their time together.
