a look was substituted for holding hands,
they simply couldn't afford the alternative:
a kiss was too costly, holding hands was too dangerous,
two hands couldn't reach for weapons simultaneously,

was substituted for one following the other,
watching each other's backs,
instead of clinging to them
it was a risk to love her,

so, they covered it up,
and live life cautiously,
choosing safety and security
over romance,
an easy enough price to pay.
