"Tzekel-Kan!" I cried.
"Speckled hen?" Olaf asked. "He doesn't look like a chicken to me."
I ignored him as I was too busy looking at my old nemesis. When he smiled at everyone – me and at all of my family and friends and my enemies – it was the same evil sadistic smile he had since we last saw him in El Dorado. That was how I knew he couldn't be anyone else besides Tzekel-Kan and he hadn't changed at all since then.
"Yes, Lord Tulio." He said my name with sarcasm and bowed to me with mockery. "It is I, your old priest, Tzekel-Kan."
"I thought Cortez would have had you killed," Miguel said.
"He tried to, but lucky for all of us, he did not," Tzekel-Kan said.
"Lucky for all of us?" Chel said.
"Lucky for me that I did not die and I escaped with my life. And lucky for you that you do not need to feel guilty."
"Us feel guilty? It was you who tried to kill me and Miguel and everyone at El Dorado!" I snapped back. "If you didn't lead Cortez and his army to attack your own city, we wouldn't have had to block the secret entrance and we wouldn't have lost all the gold." Thinking about that gold made me start to sob.
"Even though you three were nearly responsible for my death, I'm not angry with you all at," Tzekel-Kan said. "In fact, I'm actually grateful to you all. Sure, I nearly died, but once I escaped Cortez and his men, I realised that this was not the end for me; just the next stage of my life." Then he went on to explain that the next stage of his life was after he escaped the brig on Cortez's ship and escaped in a stolen rowboat, he landed on an island where he met the gods and their monster army. In order to save his own life, he had to sacrifice a few people to the gods, which he always loved to do anyway. After showing such loyalty, he became their new priest and had been for the last six years. "So, thanks to you three, my life has gotten better and I am helping my new lords to conquer all there is and to expand their empire with my friends here."
I didn't know about Miguel or Chel, but I started to feel guilty about letting Tzekel-Kan out of El Dorado. I still felt good about saving the city from him and Cortez and his army, but at the same time I felt bad about all the people Tzekel-Kan had killed. I didn't know how we could have done anything different because even if we let him into El Dorado, he and Cortez would not stop there. They would conquer and conquer for all the gold and the sacrifices in the world. Like Miguel, I thought Cortez would have taken care of Tzekel-Kan some way or the other and no one in the world would have to worry about him ever again.
"How can you give your friends orders?" Miguel asked. "You said you were a merely priest to your new gods, not a god yourself or even a warrior."
"As a faithful servant to the gods, they have awarded me some authority over my friends. This is how I control them." He showed a shiny golden ring with a shiny ruby on it.
"So you need a jewel on a ring to control the monsters?" one of Hans's soldiers called. He and his men laughed their heads off.
I looked at Tzekel-Kan and he just chuckled his evil chuckle at them. "So, you want a demonstration? Well, as you wish." Then he turned to the crocodile monster, the lobster monster and the turtle monster. "By the power authorised by our lords, I order you to rid of Emperor Hans's army and all of his empire. We shall rebuild it for our lords' rising empire. Now, go and do our lords' bidding and I swear you will each get your own castles and lands in their new empire as you rightfully deserve."
"Yes, Lord Tzekel-Kan," the monsters replied.
While the priest was speaking to his monster soldiers, Hans's fleet had already started to sail away as quickly as they could, but their quickest speed was no match for the speed of the monsters.
After we watched the ships get wrecked and heard the men crying in fear, I heard Tzekel-Kan laughing with sadistic glee. "Motivation is the key to everything," he said to us.
"Or, in your case, manipulation," Chel said unhappily.
"What do you want with us, Tzekel-Kan?" Miguel asked. "You want to sacrifice us to your latest gods? Because if you do, start with me."
Tzekel-Kan laughed again. "No, as much as I would like to, I cannot, Miguel."
"Why not?"
"Because the gods want you."
So our theory about these gods and their monsters all after Miguel were true.
"So these gods of yours sent you and all your friends to attack Motunui and use Hans and his armies to be your puppets to attack Arendelle just to lure me into your trap?"
"Well, now that we've finally found you, all of our time and efforts, including all the sacrifices we had to make, have all paid off," the cruel priest said.
"Why do they want me?" Miguel asked.
"Well, you'll have to come with me to find out, won't you?"
"What about my friends? Aren't they coming?"
"My gods have no need for them. Besides, their hard-working monsters here have earned a few snacks."
Miguel frowned at him the way he did after we cheated to win at that ball game in El Dorado. "If you don't let my friends go," he said, "I'll kill myself!"
"Miguel, NO!" I wasn't the only one who yelled that. I could swear that Elsa, Moana and Honeymaren joined in with me.
Tzekel-Kan just chuckled. "And just how are you going to do that? Especially while you're chained up."
Then we saw Miguel rolling away to the edge of the ship. Tzekel-Kan just chuckled and ordered the Kakamora pirates to stop him from going over. They stopped him from going over, but they backed away when Miguel used his bare feet to hold a knife at them.
"Come any closer and I will slit my throat," he warned.
"No, Miguel!" I called. "Don't it do!"
The rest of my families and friends all joined me in pleading him not to slit his throat. To my amazement, even Tzekel-Kan agreed with us as he was the one who took the knife from him. I could see now how serious he was about how much he needed Miguel alive.
"You've had your fun, Miguel," Tzekel-Kan said to him. "Now, let us waste no more time."
"I will come with you," Miguel said, "only if you and your army promises to leave my friends alone and you will do no more sacrifices."
My family, friends and I all wondered what he was trying to achieve.
"Are you trying to prolong the inevitable?" Tzekel-Kan demanded.
"If that means giving my friends a chance to fight for their lives, then yes," Miguel said. "And if you don't have time to argue, then I suggest you accept the deal. Because I will just keep arguing or trying to kill myself until you do."
"No, Miguel!" We all cried again.
Tzekel-Kan paused for a moment and then smiled. "Very well. Because you are willing to surrender and we cannot avoid wasting any more time, I shall spare your friends." He turned to the Kakamora pirates and nodded to them. They helped our chained-up friends up to their feet. Then I heard a splash! I looked down and gasped when I saw Benito in the sea, followed by Rika and Kasper. I looked up and I saw the pirates pushing Chel and Anna into the sea. All of them were still chained up and started to drown.
"Tzekel-Kan!" Miguel roared. "You swore you would spare them!"
"And I did," Tzekel-Kan protested. "I spared them from this boat. I didn't swear I would spare them from my friends." Laughing evilly, he turned to his friends. "They're all yours, but remember to share between each other." Then he turned to the pirates. "Now we have what we came for, let us sail back to our lords."
I watched in horror as I saw the monsters charging for Anna, Chel and the kids in the sea. "Come on!" I yelled. "Let's get to them before the monsters do!"
Moana took the helm and sailed to rescue our families drowning in the sea as quickly as she could. I saw that Chel and Anna were holding onto the chains of the children as they tried to swim to our ship, though it was a hard struggle. The monsters were closing in on them as well. Elsa threw all the ice she could at the monsters and the warriors threw and fired all the weapons they had at them, but the eagle monster was very good at dodging hits.
I saw how close we were getting to everyone in the sea and I also noticed Tzekel-Kan's ship was sailing away, with the Kakamora pirates shoving my best friend Miguel down below deck. As I watched him sail away, I felt sad that I couldn't help him. Then I remembered my family and friends being in the sea and I tried to work out how I could help them. I saw the metal ladder and by the aft side of the ship and it gave me an idea When I thought the ship was close enough to our families in the sea, I lowered the ladder down and climbed down it. I saw Chel approaching me first, stilling holding onto Benito.
"Tulio, take the children first!" Chel yelled.
With all her might, she passed Benito to me and I picked him up. I looked and saw Kristoff, Olaf and Sven at the top of the ladder.
Kristoff reached out. "Pass Benito to us!" he told me.
So I climbed a few steps and managed to give Benito to Kristoff and Olaf. Then I went back down and I took Kasper off Anna. I climbed up the steps and passed him to Kristoff and Olaf. Then I went down to pick up Rika. As I reached for her, a big wave took over me. Not only could I not feel that I held her, but I felt that the ladder I was holding onto was falling. After I felt a jerk, I woke up to see that I was indeed holding Rika in my free hand and I looked up to see Kristoff and Sven pulling the broken ladder with me and Rika back up.
"What about Mama and Auntie Chel?" Rika asked.
As we were pulled back up, I looked down and was relieved to see Chel and Anna, still in chains, were holding onto the ship with their hands as it continued to sail. Then I saw the lobster monster emerging from the sea and closely to the ship. He tried to use his claws to capture Chel and Anna, but they managed to use their hands to climb on the ship and avoid the claws. Then he blocked their way with one claw and used the other to grab them. They tried to hold onto the ship, but they got pulled down.
"MAMA!" Rika cried.
"CHEL!" I yelled.
I didn't know what to do as we were pulled up back onto the ship.
