After the apprehension of Ryuunosuke, Susato had no choice but to spend the rest of the night with Holmes and John Ryuunosuke, as her cabin was now a crime scene.

"Grandfather," John Ryuunosuke addressed Holmes. "It is obvious to me as a defense attorney that my father must be innocent. We must do whatever we can to make sure that detective does not get away with his lies and false accusations."

"Yeah," said Holmes. "He cannot get away with attempting to arrest my family. Moreover, he cannot get away with stealing my title as the Great Detective! He will pay for all of this! But uuuuaaaagh I'm so tired, maybe we'll do it tomorrow."

Holmes had moved to turn the light of the lamp off, but before he could, the lamp had fallen on the floor because, as Holmes had somehow not realized, Susato was going crazy and flipping all the furniture around because she was sad that Haori had died.

"Susato you must calm down or we will never find the truth! Seriously it all hinges on whether or not you're calm right now," said Holmes.

Susato breathed heavily then she stopped crying.

"Okay. I will not cry. Instead I will investigate this case alongside you and John Ryuunosuke so we can personally punish the culprit behind this case," said Susato. "But first we will sleep."

"Yes, good idea," said John Ryuunosuke. The three of them all nodded in agreement.

Before Susato could join the other two in the land of sleep, she knelt down and stood the lamp up. She had forced the plug out in her rampage so it wouldn't turn on, but she decided to fix that in the morning. And, so the bustling activity in cabin 2 faded for the time being...

Contrary to what she had decided on the night before, the first thing Susato did after waking up was running out the cabin to search the crime scene. She went to cabin 1, where she and Haori had been staying, and was immediately overwhelmed by the smell of a massive pool of blood in the middle of the room. Apparently this culprit really wanted Haori dead.

"Hello, hello," said Ooishi. "Guess what, I've found tons of evidence against your buddy Naruhodou!"

"I'll be the judge of that," said Susato.

Susato looked at the crime scene. There was body tape right where she saw Haori. Or was it?

"Is this really where Haori was? I was sure she was facing the other direction..." said Susato.

"No, no. Please, disregard your foggy memories, that's how she was lying," said Ooishi.

On the floor near the closet, there was a knife with blood on it.

"That knife has Naruhodou's fingerprints on it. No escape from that, eh?" said Ooishi.

"Fingerprints aren't accepted as evidence yet," Susato pointed out.

"Na ha ha, true!" Ooishi pulled a stupid grin at his own foolishness.

Susato looked around some more but there was no more evidence to find.

"So what's your case against Naruhodou?" she asked the detective. With luck they rarely had, he had nothing but fingerprints he couldn't use.

Ooishi pulled out a cigar and stuck it in his mouth without lighting it.

"It's awfully stuffy in 'ere, how 'bout we take this to my cabin? It's got AC!"

So Ooishi took Susato outside and they went to the second class hallway. Ooishi's cabin was the one closest to the door to the first class hallway. The room was smaller than the one Susato was currently staying it, but it was still much roomier than the ones she'd stayed in on prior journeys. And it was air-conditioned. Ooishi apparently liked that in particular.

Ooishi pulled out a stack of paper labelled "Witness Testimonies."

"Okay so I've interrogated everybody on the ship using my efficiency as the great detective and that Mitrov Stroganov fella said somethin' interesting. Something like..."

Ooishi cleared his throat, and when he spoke again, he did so with a much gruffer and exaggerated tone.

"Mitrov stand guard outside First Class Area. Mitrov do this all night. Nobody did go in or out that place the whole time, except policeman. Killer must be someone in First Class, dah?"

Susato tilted her head. His impression of the man was pretty solid, but something seemed very off about what he just said.

"Then why suspect Naruhodou specifically?" she asked.

"Oh please, by all means, if you did it, say so," said Ooishi.

Susato said nothing, as the man suspected she would.

"Also, you missed this," said Ooishi. He took out a photograph of the knife and it had the name "RYUUNOSUKE" engraved on it.

"WHERE DID THIS COME FROM?" screamed Susato.

"Na ha ha ha ha ha ha ha," laughed Ooishi. "So as you can see, the murder weapon belongs to someone named "Ryuunosuke." Hope yer ready to talk about the murder weapon non-stop this coming trial, eh?"

Ooishi stood up and gestured at Susato to leave.

"Now that's enougha that. If you'll excuse me, I got more evidence to dig up. Have a good year."

They left the room and Ooishi walked away with a bounce in the step of his stubby legs.

"(There's no way that knife actually belongs to either of the Ryuunosukes,)" Susato said to herself. "(But then how to I explain this damning evidence away?)"

As she returned to the first class area, Susato stopped by the window at the end of the hallway. She pulled it open and wondered if the culprit could have entered and left through that. It was too small to fit someone like Ooishi, but even someone like Holmes could probably fit through it. If someone did that, she could get around the sailor's testimony, at least.

But the window was far too high above the surface of the water for anyone to reach it from there. And also why would anyone be swimming out here in the middle of the ocean anyway?

"(This is why I don't don the Ryuutarou guise any more,)" she thought.

Susato returned to Holmes' cabin and saw the place was still a mess from last night. John Ryuunosuke was sitting at the table eating breakfast that had been left by Stroganov, while Holmes had just woken up and was getting out of bed.

"My, Miss Mikotoba, where did you get off to?" asked Holmes.

Susato explained everything that had happened up until then.

"I see, I see," said Holmes. "I can explain all of this... in no way at all. This is quite the predicament."

Holmes shook his head in resignation. For once, the Great Detective was at a loss. Perhaps, he decided, Ooishi really was more worthy of the title after all. He lay back down in bed, opened his book, and turned the lamp on to resume his pleasant read.

"OBJECTION!" shouted John Ryuunosuke. "Grandfather, Aunt Mikotoba... did either of you plug the lamp back in last night?"

Susato stared in shock at John Ryuunosuke, then at the lamp. She had forgotten to clean up after her mess from last night, so if she was to infer that John Ryuunosuke didn't do it for her, and if Holmes had just woken up, then why on earth was the lamp plugged back in?

To be continued!
