Chapter 1: Echowing

Echowing padded out of camp. The sun shone bright in the morning sky. He padded alongside the rest of the dawn patrol. Echowing had been quarantined in the medicine den for days on end because he had mysteriously caught greencough.

"Let's split up." A warrior on the patrol named Rainstorm meowed. "I'll go with Silverpaw. Fishpetal and Prickleclaw can go together. Echowing can go by himself. Make sure to look out for Leopardflower. Flowerspots hasn't seen her since yesterday night."

Echowing dipped his head respectfully. I hope we find Leopardflower. Echowing thought. I just hope she's not dead. The two other groups padded off in different directions.

I might as well head toward the ShadowClan border to mark it. Echowing thought. Since no one else is.

Echowing set off by himself towards the ShadowClan border. Echowing looked up at the sky. Everything seemed so peaceful, so calm. But it was a place where someone could go missing, and no one would know. Echowing passed a falled log with a scorch mark near the bottom. He faintly remembered the day that tree had fallen. He was newly apprenticed to Prickleclaw and there had been a huge storm that day. Echowing had been out for a walk with his mother, Silversong. The fallen tree had crushed her.

There was a lot of memories for Echowing with that tree. But without his mother's death, he wouldn't be the warrior he was today. After she had died, he had always spent time alone, not making any relationships with other cats. He had always and only focused on being the best warrior ever. When he had caught greencough, he had thought all of that training had been a waste. And that his mother had died in vain. He thought he was going to die.

But he didn't and that's all that mattered now. Echowing suddenly stopped in his tracks and saw the figure on the ground in front of him. Blood pooled around its throat. There was dried blood on the grass, the fresh blood covering it.

His breath caught in his throat. "Leopardflower?" He asked. The figure slowly nodded.

"The cat…" Leopardflower. "With orange eyes...did this."

"Who's that?" Echowing thought. Leopardflower closed her eyes and exhaled one final breath. "Rainstorm! Silverpaw! Prickleclaw! Fishpetal! Come quick!"

Within moments, the four cats appeared through the bushes and stared at the limp body in front of them.

"Leopardflower…." Rainstorm whispered. "No. Who did this?"

"Well…" Echowing stuttered. "She..she said it was a cat with orange eyes. There's RiverClan scent all over her, so I'm assuming it was a RiverClan cat. There's only one cat I know of with orange eyes."

"But it can't be!" Rainstorm meowed. "It can't be her! Surely Shadowsong wouldn't kill anyone!"

"I don't think we can trust anyone now." Fishpetal meowed sadly. "Let's take her back to camp."
