Chapter 3: Echowing
Echowing padded back from the gathering next to Silverpaw. His sad gaze drifted from tree to tree. Leopardflower had been the only cat who was nice to him after his mother had died. Now she was dead, just like everyone he had ever been close to.
The group of ThunderClan cats reached the camp and padded inside. Echowing watched cats emerge from their dens to ask the returning cats what had happened at the gathering. Echowing stopped just outside the Warriors' den and heavily yawned. Echowing padded inside of the Warriors' den, curled up on his nest, and fell asleep.
Echowing woke to the sound of birds chirping. Bright sunlight shone in through the entrance to the den and he yawned. Rainstorm was still fast asleep in her nest. Echowing shot a sad glance at her sleeping form. He had never told Rainstorm, but he liked her. A lot. But everytime Echowing got close to someone, bad things seemed to happen. Echowing sighed and stood up. He stretched and then padded out of the den. He blinked as the sunlight hit his face.
"Echowing!" A voice called. Echowing turned his head and saw Prickleclaw walking toward him.
"Yes Prickleclaw?" Echowing asked.
"You're on a hunting patrol with Fishpetal, Hollypaw, and I." Prickleclaw informed him. Echowing dipped his head and followed Prickleclaw out of camp. Echowing followed Prickleclaw over to the Great Oak where Fishpetal and Hollypaw were waiting.
"Finally!" Hollypaw exclaimed. "Let's go hunt!"
"Hollypaw and Echowing can go hunt together." Fishpetal meowed. Echowing nodded and followed Hollypaw over to the RiverClan border. Echowing saw Hollypaw instantly crouch down on the ground. He followed her gaze and saw a fat rabbit nibbling on some grass. Echowing had the sense to be quiet as not to alarm the rabbit.
Echowing slowly and silently padded over to a different part of the forest near the RiverClan border. What I really need is some time alone to think. Echowing thought with a sigh. Then he heard some rustling leaves. He turned around and saw a bush move slightly. Echowing just shrugged. It was probably just a rabbit. Echowing thought. Yeah, it was definitely a rabbit.
Since Leopardflower's murder, he was more on edge when he was out alone in the forest. Then he heard breathing. Echowing felt a cat breathing just over his shoulder. He whipped around, expecting to see someone there. But there was just air.
It's just your imagination. Echowing thought. Snap out of it. A twip snapped and Echowing whirled around. He saw something in the bushes, although he couldn't recognize what it was because it was quite far away. Echowing slowly crept toward it. As he got closer he knew exactly what it- or they- were. Orange eyes.
Echowing ran away from the bush as fast as possible. He heard a cat- or something- pursuing him and looked behind his shoulder. But there wasn't anything there. Echowing ran faster, determined not to let whatever was chasing him catch up. He passed Hollypaw, who had the fat rabbit at her feet.
"RUN!" Echowing yowled. A look of panic spread across Hollypaw's face. But as Echowing passed her he saw it replaced with anger.
"Silverpaw!" Hollypaw growled. "You weren't supposed to chase him this way!"
"Sorry Hollypaw." A voice meowed. Echowing skidded to a halt. He looked behind him and saw the brown eyes of Silverpaw. Then he heard the sound of a cat shaking out its pelt. Echowing saw patches of silver fur under something thick and green.
"H-how did you….why did you…" Echowing stammered.
"We found this green stuff near the Thunderpath and when Silverpaw rolled in it, it covered his fur!" Hollypaw explained. "We thought it would be a good prank to play after Leopardflower's death.
"Well you thought wrong." Echowing growled. "Your parents and mentor will hear about this."
Echowing turned around and stomped all the way back to camp. Death isn't funny. Echowing thought furiously. It isn't something to play around with.
If you want to submit a medicine cat or deputy you have to pm me. If you don't pm me about it and get permission I will not make that OC a deputy/medicine cat. They will just be a warrior or an elder depending on what their age is. Do not submit family for the main PoV please. You cannot submit family for the OCs that other people submit/ that are already there. Do not submit leaders please. Make sure to look at this message everytime I post a new chapter, just to make sure you don't miss anything if I update it.
