Chapter 5: Echowing
Echowing padded over to Sagestar who was talking to Rainstorm. There was a scowl on his face as he approached them. Sagestar stopped talking to Rainstorm mid-conversation and turned to Echowing.
"We are attacking RiverClan today." Sagestar told Echowing.
"Why?" Echowing asked. RiverClan didn't do anything and we don't have enough proof that Shadowsong killed Leopardflower. Echowing thought.
"You know why." Rainstorm growled. "We're leaving now. The rest of the clan already knows."
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join beneath the high ledge for a clan meeting!" Sagestar yowled. Echowing padded over to his friends Foxstep and Fawnshade and sat down. They both look extremely worried. Echowing knew how they felt. If only Leopardflower were still here. She'd be able to change Sagestar's mind. Echowing thought sadly. But then he realized something. Leopardflower would still be alive and this wouldn't be happening if Shadowsong hadn't killed her!
"Echowing, Fawnshade, Foxstep, me, Rainstorm, Prickleclaw, Ferneyes, and Ambermist will come on the battle patrol." Sagestar announced. "Fishpetal, Jaggedthorn, Redtuft, Silverpaw, Hollypaw, and the rest of the warriors will stay and guard camp with the medicine cats, queens, and elders."
Echowing nodded along with the rest of the clan. He felt a burning fire of rage inside him. They would attack RiverClan, and hopefully kill whoever murdered their beloved medicine cat.
"ThunderClan, let's move out!" Sagestar yowled and the clan cheered. Echowing stood up and was herded out of camp by the large marched over to the RiverClan border. A RiverClan cat saw them coming and ran away when they were near the border. Despite his eagerness to kill the murderer, Echowing felt deep down inside that what they were doing was not right. He felt that there was a better way to solve this, and that blood would be shed for no right reason.
"Wait!" Echowing yowled and the patrol stopped. They all turned around and looked at him. Echowing shuffled his paws uneasiliy. He felt uncomfortable with all the expectant eyes staring at him.
"I just think…" Echowing started. "that maybe we should think about this more. I mean, we don't have any proof that Shadowsong killed Leopardflower."
"Traitor!" Rainstorm yowled. "He's on the RiverClan side!"
Sagestar studied Echowing for a moment. "I think Rainstorm is right." Sagestar meowed. "Maybe you are a traitor. Fawnshade, Rainstorm, take him back to camp, throw him in the prisoners' den, and guard the entrance of it. I will give your further instructions when I get back."
Fawnshade and Rainstorm nodded and escorted Echowing back to camp.
