Chapter 6: Shadowsong
Shadowsong ran. She didn't look behind her, she didn't stop at all. She just, ran. She had seen the battle patrol coming to the RiverClan camp. She had seen Echowing try to protest, and the two ThunderClan warriors taking him away. Shadowsong tried to run as fast as her legs could carry her. The sun shone high in the sky and the heat beat down on her black fur. She splashed across a small stream and kept running. She reached the camp and skidded to a halt. Fernfall ran over to her, a worried expression on her face.
"What's wrong?" Fernfall asked Shadowsong.
"ThunderClan is coming to attack!" Shadowsong screeched. Fernfall's eyes grew wide with fear.
"We have to warn the camp!" Fernfall meowed. "You go tell Birchstar, I'll warn the rest of the clan!"
Shadowsong nodded and Fernfall ran toward the Warriors' den. Shadowsong drifted her gaze over to her leader's den. She heaved a sigh and ran to it. Birchstar was sleeping on his nest inside with his paws tucked under his head.
"Birchstar!" Shadowsong meowed, loud enough to wake him. His head bolted upright and he stood up. I guess he's a light sleeper. Shadowsong thought.
"What is it?" Birchstar asked hurriedly.
"ThunderClan is coming to attack!" Shadowsong meowed. "I saw them coming!"
Birchstar's, like Fernfall's, eyes widened at the news.
"Fernfall has gone to warn the camp." Shadowsong reported. Birchstar nodded.
"Let's go." Birchstar meowed and nodded toward the exit of the den. Shadowsong nodded and bolted out. The warriors and apprentices were gathered in the middle of the camp. The deputy, Ferretleg, was pacing in front of the group.
"Shadefin and sagethorn are to be guarding the nursery." Ferretleg shouted the instructions. One by one, cats ran to their places. "Shadowsong and Sootstrike will guard the medicine den. The rest of you will fight in the middle of the camp."
Shadowsong didn't stop to glower about her partner choice and ran over to the medicine den. Shadesight was sitting inside grooming himself like nothing was happening. Willowdawn was sitting in the entrance with marigold and cobwebs in her jaws to treat injuries. Willowdawn cast Sootstrike and Shadowsong a quick nod and Shadowsong dipped her head. She took her position by the entrance off to the side and stood there. Her fur felt like there were ants crawling through it. Her paws shifted from side to side. Everything seemed so, quiet. So peaceful. But then a twig snapped, and the peace was no more.
Time seemed to shift in slow motion as ThunderClan cats streamed into the Riverclan camp. Shadowsong heard shrieks of terror and pain echo throughout the camp. A spiky black cat ran toward Shadowsong and Sootstrike, a silver cat following him.
Shadowsong shot her paw out at the black cat and raked her claws down his face. He let out a screech of fury and swiped back at her. Shadowsong ducked but hissed when she felt claws shred her right ear. She leapt up and jumped onto his back. She started raking her claws down it and hear him yowl in fury and pain. He flipped over and Shadowsong was crushed by his weight. She managed to look to her right and saw Sootstike had fought off the silver cat.
"Sootstrike…" Shadowsong whispered. "Help me…."
Sootstrike just smirked and sat down. Shadowsong drew in a pain filled breath. The black cat pushed down harder on her. She saw him raise a paw, and then she knew it was over. Time seemed to move in slow motion once again. Shadowsong closed her eyes, but then she heard a voice cry out.
"No!" A cat yowled. Shadowsong opened her eyes and saw Fernfall jump in front of Shadowsong as the black cat's paw came crashing down on what should have been Shadowsong's neck.
"Retreat!" A voice yowled and the black cat ran away. Shadowsong shakily stood to her paws. She looked at the limp bundle of fur in front of her and let out a cry of sadness. There, laying in front of her, was Fernfall's dead body. The neck twisted at an odd angle. Shadowsong's only friend was dead.
Well I usually don't write chapters this long so it's kind of nice to. Anyways, Mintflight, I hope you don't mind that I killed Fernfall. I just needed some juicy story ideas and Fernfall came to my mind. Anyways, cats are going to start disappearing so don't get attached to your OCs. And please only submit cats that are low on or don't have any OCs in that section (apprentice, queen, etc.) Have a good day (or night) and stay safe!
