Chapter 7: Echowing
Echowing laid in the moss nest of the prisoner's den. He stared at the darkening sky as the defeated ThunderClan cats filed back into camp. Thunder cracked and Echowing jumped at the sudden noise. He groaned inwardly as Redpaw padded into the den. Redpaw was extremely annoying and rude to warriors and other apprentices. Although he seemed to be more quiet lately so maybe he was shaping up somewhat.
Echowing noticed that Redpaw's fur seemed ruffled and therescars all along his pelt.
"Battle didn't go too well?" Echowing asked. That just made Redpaw scowl.
"Sagestar wants to see you in his den." Redpaw growled. "I'm supposed to escort you there although I would have liked some backup."
"What do you think I'm going to do to my clanmates?" Echowing asked with a skeptical look on his face.
Redpaw just scowled more. Echowing shrugged and stood up. As he walked outside of the small den, lightning struck down not far from the camp exit. Echowing saw Redpaw flinch and he rolled his eyes. It's just a bit of lightning, we'll be fine. Echowing thought. Echowing followed Redpaw to Sagestar's den. Sagestar was sitting inside glaring at the cave wall. Echowing stepped inside and Redpaw waited outside.
"Sit." Sagestar meowed plainly. Echowing sat down on the bare rock.
"You wanted to speak to me about something?" Echowing asked. Sagestar's gaze drifted over to Echowing.
"You were right." Sagestar sighed. "I should have listened to you. So many cats are dead. Fawnshade, Foxstep and Ambermist all died. Ferneyes has severe injuries that are most likely going to get infected."
"So what do you want me to do?" Echowing asked.
"I want you to be my deputy." Sagestar meowed. "That's really the only way I'm going to listen to you."
Echowing just stared at Sagestar in shock. "Y-you want me to be your deputy? But what about Graymist?"
"He understood." Sagestar meowed. "I already spoke with him and he told me that he never wanted to be deputy in the first place. Do you accept?"
"I-I don't know what to say!" Echowing meowed.
"Just say yes or no." Sagestar told him.
"Sure!" Echowing meowed. "I'd love to be the deputy!"
"Good." Sagestar meowed and gave him a weak smile. "I'll go announce it to the clan."
Sorry that this took a while to get uploaded. I was working on some other things *cough cough* The book after The Outcasts written by Mintflight0245 and I *cough cough* Anyways, have a good day (or night) and stay safe!
