Chapter 10: Shadowsong

Shadowsong jumped as she heard a loud buzzing sound. Her fur bristled and her nose twitched. Then, she heard a crashing noise and a cloud of something- smoke, dust, whatever, just something- rose up from ThunderClan territory. I wonder what that is… Shadowsong thought. But it can't be anything good...

Shadowsong padded over to Birchstar, who was conversing with Ferretleg.

"Birchstar." Shadowsong meowed. Birchstar whipped around and smiled at Shadowsong.

"Yes?" He asked.

"Look at the cloud over ThunderClan territory!" Shadowsong meowed. "Shouldn't we send a patrol to see if everything is alright?"

Birchstar rolled his eyes and Shadowsong frowned at him. Does he not care that we could lose one of our clans?

"ThunderClan has been terrible to us," Birchstar started. "They do not deserve our help. And I'm sure one of the other clans will try and help them."

"But what if it affected the other clans?" Shadowsong asked, her worry growing each passing moment.

She saw Ferretleg roll his eyes. "You're being completely irrational."

Shadowsong glared at the RiverClan deputy. "That's easy for you to say. You've hated ThunderClan all of your life!"

"Shadowsong." Birchstar meowed harshly. Shadowsong looked at him.

"What?" She asked coldly.

"We are not helping ThunderClan." He meowed strictly. "That is final."

Shadowsong let out a huff of annoyance and stalked off toward the fresh-kill pile.

If Birchstar won't do anything, then I will.

Shadowsong blinked open her orange eyes, her jaws opening wide in a gaping yawn. She glanced around the den and saw that everyone was still sleeping. Shadowsong popped her head out and saw the stars glittering in the night sky. Good, it's still nighttime.

Shadowsong padded out of the den, glancing around to make sure no one had seen her. She padded toward the exit of the camp when she remembered that Leafswipe was guarding the entrance to the tunnel. She just sighed and padded over to him.

"Hello Leafswipe." Shadowsong meowed cheerfully.

"What are you doing out here?" Leafswipe meowed.

"I'm just going for a walk." Shadowsong meowed. Leafswipe grunted grumpily. He must really not like guarding the camp. She thought and padded past the tom.

She padded out of camp. A while later, she arrived at the ThunderClan border. Shadowsong stared at the border and took a deep breath. This is dangerous. She thought. But I'll do it anyways.

Shadowsong padded across the border and made her way to the ThunderClan camp. She gasped when she saw what had happened to it. Multiple large trees had fallen on the camp and destroyed everything that wasn't made of rock. And the cats that usually filled it, were deserted.

But Shadowsong froze when she heard a wail coming from the ThunderClan camp. She felt her eyes widen and she ran into the camp, making her way carefully through the trees and branches.

"Sagestar?" Shadowsong asked when she saw the ThunderClan leader crying in the middle of the camp.

"Wha-?" Sagestar asked and then lifted her head. "Oh, it's you. I suppose you've come to kill me."

"What do you mean?" Shadowsong asked but then remembered the false accusations. "Oh. I never killed Leopardleaf. I'm not a killer."

"Then why are you here?" Sagestar asked suspiciously.

"I wanted to see if ThunderClan was alright." Shadowsong meowed, surveying the camp. "Although I can see that it's not. Where is everybody?"

"They're gone." Sagestar meowed sadly, her head drooping. "The twolegs took them. All because I'm a terrible leader."

"Hmm." Shadowsong meowed. She padded out of the camp and almost leapt with joy when she smelled a fresh ThunderClan scent. It was only about a day old, and had been there since the night before. The ThunderClan scent was also mixed with the scent of twolegs. If I could just follow that trail….

Shadowsong leapt with joy again, holding her tail high. She ran back into the ThunderClan camp to tell Sagestar the good news. Only to find the ThunderClan leader dead, claw marks scoring her throat. Shadowsong sighed. The hidden killer strikes again.

So the buzzing noise was twolegs cutting trees. The flash of orange light was just the sun. Hope you enjoyed the chapter, make sure to review, and OC submit is CLOSED. Have a good day (or night) and stay safe!
