Chapter 5
Mildred and Hecate stayed in contact over the holidays, with daily mirror calls. Mildred also contacted her friends, even meeting up at the park and hanging out together. Mildred was now 15 years old. She was excited because over the holiday, Hecate asked for Julie's permission to start seeing Mildred, and she had said, "Yes, that it was okay." They started dating and loved spending time together. Hecate had taken Mildred on a few dates.
Mildred was currently getting ready for a date that Hecate had organized. She decided to wear a black over-all dress with a white t-shirt and white leggings with black ankle boots. She put her hair up in a high ponytail and was ready to go. Hecate had wanted to take Mildred to the carnival that was in town.
They went on all the rides and even shared some fairy floss and some other carnival foods. They had so much fun going on the rides and doing some games they didn't realize that it was getting dark. Mildred took Hecate on a night walk along the beach, Mildred had taken off her leggings and shoes, and Hecate took her shoes off too.
They walked along the beach, holding hands; they eventually came to Mildred's apartment building with her mother. When they came to the door, Mildred and Hecate both leaned in and had their first kiss. They both said, "Good night." To each other and Mildred walked inside while Hecate transferred back to Cackles.
When Mildred walked inside, she saw her mother sitting at the table, eating a snack. She looked up and saw Mildred touching her lips with a smile on her face. Mildred looked at her mother and said, "Good night, mum." She kissed her mother on the cheek and went to bed.
The next morning Mildred was still thinking of the kiss that she and Hecate had and smiled again. She then realized that the next term was coming, so she went into her room to study, but when she did get stuck, she mirrors called Hecate, and she helped her when she got stuck.
The next term for school was coming tomorrow, so Mildred packed her stuff that she was taking to school with her. She made sure she had her potions, chanting, and spell science work she had to do. Mildred then went to bed early so that when she arrived early, she could spend her time with Hecate before the other students arrived.
The next morning Mildred got up, had her breakfast, and told her mother, "Goodbye, see you when the term ends." Kissed her mother on the cheek, grabbed all her things and her broomstick and her cat Tabby and flew to Cackle's Academy.
When Mildred got there, she saw Hecate waiting for her, as soon as she landed she ran towards Hecate and hugged her, and they both kissed each other. When they looked up, they saw the teachers and Ada smiling. They pulled away, blushing. They walked over to the teachers holding hands.
Ada let Hecate and Mildred spend some time together before the rest of the students come. Mildred and Hecate spent time talking in Hecate's quarters on her couch, leaning against each other, and having small kisses with each other.
The rest of the students came, so Mildred and Hecate left the room so that Mildred could see her friends, she ran to them, and they all hugged. Mildred spent some time with her other friends. The students all went inside to unpack their stuff. Mildred walked to her room and started unpacking. After a while, it was time to have their dinner, so they all walked down to the hall and had their tea.
After they had their dinner, they all went back to their rooms to go to bed. Mildred got into her pajamas when she felt someone hugging her she turned around and saw that it was Hecate. They hugged and shared a kiss, then they both said, "goodnight, love." To each other and Hecate left to go to her room so she could sleep.
That morning, Ada went to see Agatha, but when she went there, notice that Agatha wasn't there, so she went back to Cackle's to warn the teachers as well as the great wizard. The great wizard was going to arrive tomorrow to help them get rid of Agatha. That night Agatha came to Esmerelda's window, pretending to be Ada, and made Esmerelda give up her powers to her, not realizing it was Agatha.
Hecate was worried about Mildred. When she heard that Agatha had left the cottage, she rushed to Mildred's room, grabbed her, and held onto her before she rushed to pack all her stuff. Mildred looked at Hecate, frowning when she saw her packing her stuff. She asked: "What are you doing? Why are you packing my stuff, love?" Hecate looked at Mildred and replied, "Agatha has escaped. We need to get you out of the castle. You have already beat her once. I don't want to lose you, so you're going back home until we can find a way to get rid of her." Mildred nodded her head and helped Hecate pack her stuff.
Mildred and Hecate flew to Mildred's home, where they shared a few kisses before Hecate left. When they were away, Agatha took over the school and put Ada in a painting, and the rest of the teachers had a detector spell put on them. Hecate had one put on her when she returned to the school and made up the story that Mildred had gotten expelled, only Miss Bat, Mr. Algernon Rowan-Webb, and Miss Drill knew that she wasn't but pretended that she was. Ethel heard Maud and Enid talking about Hecate sending Mildred home because she was worried about her being her soulmate and all. Ethel told Agatha because Agatha promised her the head girl position.
Mildred spent time with her mother and worried about her friends and teachers and Hecate. She was worried about what Agatha would do to her, the students and teachers had to get used to Agatha's idea of being the new headmistress, but none liked it. Ethel and Esmerelda came up with a plan to get some outside help, but Miss Gullet turned Esmerelda into a trophy before they could do anything.
The next day the Great Wizard came and went into Ada's office where Agatha made Hecate do the spell with her and Miss Gullet. When the Great Wizard looked at Hecate and asked, "Why are you doing this?" Hecate looked at him with sorrow in her eyes and replied, "Agatha knows Mildred is my soulmate, said if I didn't do this, she was going to hurt Mildred. I have no choice. I'm so sorry." The Great Wizard understood what Hecate was feeling. He had felt a bond happening between him and Mildred like a father-daughter bond and knew if he were in Hecate's position, he would do the same thing to protect Mildred. So the three witches turned him into a balloon. Hecate left to her room, she felt awful for doing it to him, but she had to protect Mildred.
Ethel sent Tabby with a letter and a small amount of invisibility potion for Mildred. When she got to school, she drank the potion and made her way inside. Ethel led Mildred into Miss Cackle's office when she got to the door, where Maud and Enid were waiting with the painting. It wasn't long after that Miss Gullet arrived and quickly turned Ethel, Maud, and Enid into cakes.
Mildred started to turn visible and quickly ran to hide behind Miss Cackle's desk, thinking of how she would escape onto the balcony, when she heard the door open, thinking she had been caught but sighed in relief when she saw that it was Hecate. Hecate said, "Mildred? Mildred, why are you here?" Mildred replied with a smile, "I have come to help." They both went to the painting, and Mildred tried to do a spell to release Ada.
Mildred took the picture from where it was leaning against the wall and took it over the desk. Hecate opened the spellbook while Mildred got into a position near the picture to recite the spell. Mildred raised her hands in the air while reading the spell from the book Hecate was holding.
As Mildred was reading the spell, little sparks were forming from her hands as she finished reading the spell, they stood back and waited, but nothing happened. Mildred sighed and said, " It didn't work. I'll try again." Hecate gave Mildred a worried glance and said, " Please be careful." Mildred gave her arms a shake and cleared her mind.
She raised her arms in the air once again while reading the spell. The same thing happens, but this time the sparks were a little bigger. Mildred began to sway as she finished the spell and started to stagger. " MILDRED!" Hecate shouted with clear worry as she caught Mildred before she could hit the ground.
"That spell is powerful, and it has taken a lot out of you, Mildred. You need to rest for a few minutes." Said Hecate as she leads Mildred over to Miss Cackle's chair. "I'm sorry I couldn't do it. I don't think I'm strong enough." Said Mildred with defeat.
She had hoped that she could get Ada out of the painting. " Nonsense," Said Hecate, "That is a powerful spell to do, even for some hierarchy witches. For you to get sparks like that at your age is very impressive. You will be a mighty witch one day." Mildred smiled a thank you to Hecate as she was still a little tired but was okay to go home, so Hecate helped Mildred outside with her broomstick. Hecate and Mildred hugged and kissed each other. When they broke the embrace, Hecate told Mildred to return home safely.
Hecate then decided to try the spell when she heard the alarm going off. She forgot about the detector's spell and was about to get Ada out of the painting. When Agatha and Miss Gullet came into the room, they did the same spell to put Hecate into Ada's painting. Mildred felt a weird rush of sadness go through her body.
She was confused by this feeling and didn't know where it came from, but quickly realized it was not her feeling. It was Hecate's. Mildred decided she was going to find Hecate. She entered the Academy, walking the halls trying to find Hecate. She stopped by the dining hall when she noticed the students sitting down, eating lunch.
When she looked around the room for Hecate, she noticed that everyone had the same thing to eat, but three girls had cakes. Mildred realized she had forgotten about her friends being turned into cakes, and Felicity, Drusilla, and Nova Nitwhistler were about to eat her friends and Ethel. She quickly ran in and stopped the girls by yelling 'STOP.' The three girls, startled looked around while dropping their cakes, so Mildred grabbed them while the girls were distracted and ran to the other side of the hall.
She used the reversal spell to change them back to normal. When Agatha and Miss Gullet came into the hall after putting Hecate into the painting, they saw Mildred standing with Maud, Enid, and Ethel. Agatha yelled, " Mildred Hubble" Mildred looked over at Agatha with fear in her eyes and started to take slow steps backward.
Enid protectively stood in front of Mildred and yelled at Agatha, " Leave this school. We don't want you here." Agatha just laughed at Enid and said, " What are you going to do about it, little girl?" Enid didn't back down and yelled back, " If you don't leave, we will." Agatha just stared at Enid, then looked at Mildred and all the other students, " How do you think you will make me leave when I have the school on my side." Agatha replied smugly but soon lost the smirk off her face when several students walk over to Enid to back her up.
It was now Enid's turn to smirk at Agatha and said: " The whole school, huh?" More students began to step forward until there was no longer a student on Agatha's side. Miss Gullet noticed that Mildred was in the back of all the students and didn't like how they were defending her, so thought she might break Mildred down and taunt her, " I wonder if Hecate is having a nice time with Ada?" Mildred froze when she heard Hecate's name, she then realized what Miss Gullet had said, and she felt angry because that feeling of sadness was the two witches putting her soulmate into the picture.
That's when she straightened her shoulders and stood right beside Enid, and glared at the two older witches. When Agatha realized her and Miss Gullet were outnumbered, she performed an annihilation spell, the building began to crack and shake before it started to crumble.
Ethel ran into her room and got Esmerelda from the table while the rest of the students ran outside. When Mildred got there, she, Maud, and Enid started chanting, "We aren't many. We are one." They said it repeatedly, and then more students joined in on the chant in a circle. They then said, "Agatha's spell shall be undone." The girls said the same thing until the building started to fix itself while Miss Gullet and Agatha were floating in the air.
Esmerelda turned back into herself and hugged Ethel. Ada and Hecate came from the painting and landed outside. As soon as they touched the ground, Mildred ran to Hecate and didn't care who saw but kissed Hecate. The Great Wizard turned back into himself and went outside.
When he saw Hecate, he went to her and said: "If I were in your position, I would have done the same thing." He then looked at Mildred and smiled, knowing she was safe. Ada said, "Thank you, Mildred." Mildred smiled and watched as Ada and Hecate wrapped a magic rope around Agatha and Miss Gullet and brought them back down to the ground, and the Great Wizard put them into a photo frame where they will be imprisoned.
The Great Wizard took Mildred aside with Ada and Hecate and told Mildred about the father and daughter bond he had with her, and Mildred just smiled and said, "I feel the same bond with you too." The Great Wizard smiled and hugged Mildred, and then he left. They went back to where the students and teachers were and made sure the teachers were alright.
Ada also told Mildred about the bond she had with her, but it was a mother and daughter bond, but Mildred didn't mind that she has two mother figures and a father figure in her life. She was just glad that everyone that she loved was safe. Mildred looked at Hecate and said, "I love you, Hecate." Hecate smiled and replied, "I love you too, Mildred. And they kissed while the teachers all smiled at them.
