Chapter seven
The new term had begun, and some first years were starting. There were Sybil Hallow, Clarice Crow, and Beatrice bunch. There was also a new teacher, called Miss Mould. Miss Cackle started her speech when they heard screaming. It was a new girl called Ivy Dixson, and she crashed into the tower.
They saw the tower crumble to the ground. All the teacher gasped. Miss Cackle, Miss Drill, and Mr. Algernon Rowan-Webb went to the tower and saw a red glowing light coming from the floor. Algernon picked it up and found out it was the founding stone for the school.
They put the founding stone in a room for everyone to see. That night Sybil stole the founding stone, hoping no one would notice, but that afternoon the teachers saw that it was gone. Sybil tried to take it back but saw the teachers talking, so she went to her room and made a plan.
But the plan didn't go to plan. She accidentally set her room on fire, Miss Hardbroom and Miss Cackle quickly put it out. That night Sybil told Mildred what she did, so Mildred grabbed it from Sybil's room and put it back without anyone noticing.
The teacher was excited to see it back and saw Mildred next to it. She made up the lie that she found in a cupboard and put it back where it belonged. After the students had their breakfast, they went to their first class.
Mildred had art with Ethel, Drusilla, Maud, Enid, and Felicity. Miss Mould got them to do their family tree when Mildred saw her mother on the tree, and she started to think about her.
She didn't know when she would wake up from her coma. Mildred didn't realize she was crying until she felt water droplets on her hand, so she grabbed her art stuff and ran out of the classroom.
Hecate found out from Maud that Mildred ran from her art class crying, so Hecate went looking for her. Hecate found Mildred sitting on a bench outside crying. She walked over to her, sat down, and held Mildred while she cried.
After Mildred had finished crying, she and Hecate walked back inside, holding hands. Mildred went to her other classes. Mildred and Hecate spent some of the night talking about how Mildred was feeling, then they both went to sleep in their rooms.
The next day when Mildred walked into the art room, she saw that Miss Cackle and the Great Wizard were on her tree. She smiled and thought of the bond they had with her. Ethel decided she would use the founding stone to give Esmerelda her powers back. She took the stone and hid it in a chest in her room.
She then put a barrier up so anyone who entered can get out except for Esmerelda. If she went in, she couldn't get out. Sybil walked into the room. She heard someone coming and climbed out of the window and onto the roof.
Esmerelda walked into the room, opened the chest, saw the founding stone, left the stone, and was going to walk out but heard Sybil calling for help. She took the stone out and took the magic from the stone so she could save Sybil.
Ethel and Mildred walked into the room, looked down at the founding stone, and saw that it was black. Miss Drill was outside walking when she looked up and saw the towers covered in ice. Miss Drill ran inside and told everyone about the towers. Miss Cackle told the students and teachers to leave the academy.
Mildred went to her family tree after all the Hallow ancestors left and didn't give her and Ethel the answers they needed. Mildred found out she came from a witching family when Mirabelle Hubble told her what she had done.
\Mirabelle ignited the founding stone with her magic but also the magic of twelve of her descendants. Ethel, Mildred, Esmerelda, and Sybil started to walk back to the castle but was stopped by Miss Mould, who said: "I tried to charge it, but I must give it too much." At the same time, showing pieces of clay that she painted to look like the founding stone.
She told the girls about a coven where they would be welcomed, but they would have to go now, so they started to walk away from the castle, but a voice stopped them.
Hecate and Ada were with Maud, Enid, and Felicity when Felicity got covered in ice. Maud and Enid ran to her and yelled, "Felicity." Miss Cackle said, "She's not hurt, merely suspended." Maud found a bit of magic in a jar, and they used that to send Miss Hardbroom to Mildred.
After they did that, Miss Hardbroom left, and Maud and Enid were frozen. Miss Hardbroom saw Mildred, Miss Mould, Esmerelda, Ethel, and Sybil about to leave, so she yelled out, "Stop, we can't leave there are witches inside the academy," Mildred looked at Hecate and ran to her, hugged her to help her warm-up.
Miss Hardbroom found out that Miss Mould lied about who she was, looked at the cloth, pulled out a piece of rock, and said, "clay, what have you done with the stone Miss Mould?" Miss Mould smirked and replied, "You're never going to find it." Ethel realized she wouldn't have had enough time to hide it and then meet them outside.
Hecate got Mildred to let her go then walked towards Miss Mould, looking furious at her, so Miss Mould grabbed Mildred and transferred them into the castle with Hecate yelling "MILDRED." Hecate, Esmerelda, Ethel, and Sybil ran towards the castle, and the three young girls looked for the stone while Hecate looked for Mildred.
Mildred was talking to Miss Mould after she found out she was in Agatha's coven. After they had their conversation, Mildred started to tell Miss Mould all the good things she had taught her, but before she could continue, Mildred got frozen while Miss Mould took the picture and left.
Miss Mould was thinking about what Mildred had said to her before she froze, started to feel guilty about it, and had second thoughts on what side she should choose. Hecate felt a cold shiver going through her and knew it was Mildred she ran quickly to find her.
Hecate found Mildred in Miss Cackles' office frozen, so she walked up to it and put her hands on the block of ice as well as her forehead. She put all her love into what she was feeling for Mildred and transferred it to the ice. It worked. It freed Mildred. When Mildred saw Hecate, she grabbed onto her, hugging, then they shared a long kiss.
Meanwhile, Ethel, Esmerelda, and Sybil had found the stone, but they had all got frozen when they got into the room. Hecate and Mildred made their way into the tower to see the three girls frozen. When Mildred looked over at Hecate when she heard crackling and saw Hecate had been frozen.
Mildred started to recite a spell to give her magic away to restore the stone, so everyone would start to unfreeze. Still, Miss Mould stopped her just when she finally realized what side she wanted to be on so she, transferred herself into the tower and stopped Mildred from giving up her powers. Hecate came back to normal and hugged Mildred right away.
Ada arrived with Felicity, Maud, and Enid and was excited in seeing that the founding stone was glowing red again. Maud and Enid ran over to Mildred, pulled her out of Hecate's arm, and hugged her. After they hugged her, they gave her back to Hecate, who put Mildred in front of her.
She then put her arm around her waist, letting Mildred lean on her. Mildred was feeling a bit weak from almost giving up her magic to save everyone and the castle. Hecate took Mildred to her bedroom and got her to rest until she felt better.
Miss Cackle and Miss Hardbroom stood outside with Miss Mould, waiting for the Great Wizard to collect Miss Mould. Hecate noticed Mildred was out of bed but just waved her over. Mildred walked over to Hecate and stood beside her, and rested her head on her shoulder. The Great Wizard came and got Miss Mould but was sad that he couldn't speak to Mildred since he had to leave quickly.
The end of term came along, and the students and teachers were celebrating Halloween. Mildred stood in the back, watching everyone while looking at Hecate in her dress and robes. Hecate caught Mildred's eyes and smiled, Miss Cackle said her speech, and everyone started dancing. Hecate made her way over to Mildred and asked if it was true that she came from a witching family, and Mildred nodded her head.
Mildred grabbed Hecate's hand, and they started dancing. The next day after the party, all the students were going home, all but Mildred Hubble. She was staying at school. Her mother was still in the hospital. The students left, and Mildred just stayed close to Hecate, waving to her friends as they left the school.
