Chapter 8
Over the holidays, Mildred had her 17th birthday (she was 16 when Miss Pentangle came to the school, and the founding stone was restored.) Hecate gave Mildred a turquoise necklace and ring set, Ada gave Mildred a purple robe, the Great Wizard gave her a turquoise robe, and the teachers each gave her a book except Miss Drill, who gave her a purple and turquoise broomstick.
Mildred also visited her mother, who was still in a coma. She told her mother all about the term she had and was hoping she would hear her. One afternoon Hecate, Ada, and the Great Wizard even went with Mildred when she visited her mother.
Mildred was walking outside around the academy when she started to feel several eyes looking at her, and she started to get scared, she didn't know who was watching her. Hecate could feel that Mildred was scared, so she transferred herself to Mildred.
She saw Mildred looking around, so she went up to her and said, "Mildred love, what's wrong?" Mildred looked at her and replied, "I can feel several eyes on me." Hecate stood protectively in front of Mildred, looking around. When she couldn't see anyone, she turned around and hugged Mildred, then transferred them inside.
Ada and the Great Wizard talked to the teachers when they saw Hecate transferring into the room, hugging Mildred to her. Hecate and Mildred looked at everyone and saw how tensed Hecate was looking. Hecate said, "Ada, we need to teach Mildred some protection spells.
She told me she felt several eyes on her when she was outside walking." Ada looked at Mildred and saw how scared she looked. Everyone walked up to Mildred and hugged her. Ada, the Great Wizard, and teachers all agreed and started tomorrow in the morning.
That night Mildred didn't want to sleep alone, so she sneaked into Hecate's room and climbed into bed next to her. Hecate felt her get in, and she wrapped her arms protectively around Mildred. Mildred felt safe that she fell asleep straight away. When Hecate woke up that morning, she saw Mildred in her arms, smiled, and woke Mildred up with a kiss.
Mildred got up and went to her room to get dressed. Hecate was waiting outside Mildred'd room, grabbed her hand, and walked together down to the dining hall. Ada, the Great Wizard, and teachers showed Mildred some protective spells that she tried and got right her first go. Hecate even taught Mildred to transfer so that she didn't feel safe. She could transfer away from danger.
That afternoon Mildred wanted to see her mother, so everyone agreed since she knew how to transfer away. When she got to the hospital, she walked into her mother's room and started talking to her. When all of a sudden, her mother stopped breathing. The doctors and nurses all rushed into the room and pushed Mildred out of the room.
Mildred watched as they tried to bring her mother back with tears in her eyes. Hecate was with the teachers, Ada, and the Great Wizard when she felt this rush of sadness go through and knew it was Mildred. Everyone watched as Hecate transferred away when Hecate got to the hospital and went to Julie's room. When she got there, she saw Mildred outside.
Hecate ran up to Mildred when she saw tears going down her face. When she got to Mildred, she hugged her and looked inside Julie's room to see the doctors and nurses trying to bring Julie back. One of the nurses came out and said: "I'm sorry, but we tried hard. We couldn't bring her back. I'm sorry for your loss." Mildred broke down, sobbing and screaming.
Hecate just held onto Mildred. After a while, Hecate transferred Mildred back to Cackle's but took her to her bedroom, where she laid down, holding onto Mildred while she slept.
Hecate got up after Mildred had fallen asleep and went to find everyone they needed to know about Julie, she found them in the staff room when she entered everyone looked at her and she said: "Ada Julie passed away today." Ada and everyone gasped, and Ada replied, "How is Mildred?" Hecate said, "She was sobbing and screaming before but then fell asleep after I held her, so I'm going to go back to her." Hecate saw everyone with tears going down their cheeks.
She even let some slip. Hecate then left the room and went back to Mildred. Mildred was still sleeping when she walked in, so she got changed and climbed into bed next to Mildred, holding onto her, and she fell asleep.
Ada got into contact with Mildred's friends and told them about Julie's death. They all came to the academy to support Mildred. A few days later, they had a funeral for Julie, and everyone was crying. When they got back to the academy, Mildred didn't know how she did it, but she conjured up a phoenix from her hands.
Everyone looked at her while Mildred looked at her hands in shock. Suddenly the doors opened, and in came three people. And the first person introduced themselves, and they said, "I'm Coral Simmons, and I am the protector of witches and wizards." The next one said, "I'm Ember Aberra. I'm the goddess of magic." The last one stepped forward and said, "I'm Cassia Willow, and I'm the goddess of all the elements."
Coral was wearing a dark purple dress with a black corset on top she was also wearing a black cloak, around her waist she had a magical sword on her back was a magical bow and arrow, Ember was wearing a dark blue sleeveless dress and Cassia was wearing a purple and black dress with sleeves flowing down in the front and back of her arms. Everyone was surprised, but it turned to gasps when they saw them circling Mildred. Hecate stepped forward to protect Mildred when Coral put her sword to her throat.
Mildred looked over and saw Coral with her sword to Hecate's throat, she felt anger, and her magic reacted and changed her clothing into a turquoise dress covering her chest and leaving her stomach bare. The sleeves flowed down to the floor but had a split in it so she could move her arms. Around her waist was a magical belt for her sword that she had in her hand. When everyone opened their eyes, they saw that Mildred looked different.
Coral faced Mildred and started fighting. Mildred won against Coral, which surprised everyone, including Ember and Cassia. Coral got off the floor and saw Mildred standing in front of Hecate protectively. Mildred then pushes all three down with her magic. Coral, Ember, and Cassia all got up and did something to surprise everyone.
They went down on one knee and bowed down to Mildred. When Mildred knew there was no danger, her clothes turned back to normal, but her magic was pulsing. Hecate, Ada, and the Great Wizard walked beside Mildred, put their arms around her, and kissed the side of her face. When they did that, Mildred's magic stopped pulsing.
Cassia looked up when she felt the magic stop pulsing and realized that Mildred and Hecate were soulmates and that Hecate, Ada, and the Great Wizard were the only ones able to calm Mildred down. Coral, Ember, and Cassia stood up and said, "Forgive us, but we had to test Mildred." Hecate said, "Why did you do that for?" Cassia said, "One day Mildred is going to be very powerful and needed to know if she would be replacing one of us, but we learned by how protective she got as well as her magic fighting us off she will be replacing all of us." Mildred looked at the shock, as did everyone else.
Cassia, Ember, and Coral all offered to train Mildred until she was ready to become the goddess of magic and all the witches and wizards' elements and protector. Hecate, Ada, and the Great Wizard kept watching while they trained Mildred.
It was getting close to the school term, and they left but promised to finish training Mildred when it was the next holiday. Students started arriving at the academy, and all went to their rooms and unpacked. Maud, Enid, and Felicity all ran to Mildred and hugged her. Esmerelda ended up graduating and didn't go to Cackle's anymore but stayed friends with Mildred.
Mildred's last year at Cackle's Academy, and Mildred wasn't going to go to college. She was going to stay at the academy, Hecate tried to get Mildred to go to college, but Mildred just refused. One afternoon Mildred was walking around. She had a free period and found herself at a lake.
Unknown to Mildred, an older witch with white hair and black clothing walked up to her. As soon as Mildred turned around, the witch tried to take her powers. Mildred put up a protective barrier around herself. Mildred knew she needed help and sent a projection of herself to Hecate.
Hecate was with the Great Wizard and Ada when she felt Mildred starting to weaken. She was about to leave when she saw a clear version of Mildred, Hecate, the Great Wizard, and Ada walked up to her. Mildred said, "Hecate, help me please a witch is trying to take my magic." Hecate was about to reply when Mildred sent a clear picture of where she was.
The Great Wizard grabbed Hecate's and Ada's hand and said, "It would be faster if I transferred us there. Just think of the place she is Hecate." Hecate thought of the lake where Mildred was. They arrived at the lake, seeing Mildred in a protective barrier. They all used their magic and threw her across the water.
When Mildred knew it was safe, she let her barrier down and fell to her knees. Hecate ran over to her and helped her up, letting Mildred lean on her. They went back to Cackle's, where Mildred laid down and fell asleep. Hecate was worried about Mildred, so she laid down next to her wrapping her arms around Mildred falling asleep next to the person she loved most in the world.
