"Honey, it's time for you to find the meaning of Christmas'" Brett's mother said, making him frown slightly.
"What do you mean mum?" Brett asked curiously as he looked at his mother who gave him a loving smile.
"Honey if you are to take over to be the next Santa Claus, you would need to know what the meaning of Christmas is" Jenna explained as Brett frowned a little bit.
"I do know what the meaning of Christmas it's about giving and sharing with family and friends," Brett said with confidence as Jenna sighed and replied
"That's true but Brett the meaning of Christmas is different for everyone else" Jenna explained as Brett scrunched his face in confusion as Jenna continued "it will be a while till you become the next Santa Claus till your father retires but every Santa needs to learn the true meaning of Christmas on how they see the meaning of Christmas"
"Can I get a hint?" Brett asked as Jenna smiled and shook her head "why not?"
"Because the meaning of Christmas is different for everyone" Jenna kissed his forehead "You'll find it!" she said happily before continuing to make cookies. "Now go find your father and help him" Brett sighed and nodded before grabbing his jacket before heading out to the Reindeer Barn.
"Dad?" Brett called out as he saw his father, he had short blond hair and kind blue eyes. He wore a red lumberjack and blue jeans tucked into black winter boots. Now you may be wondering, why doesn't he look like the ones in the pictures or in movies. You know with white hair and a thick beard full of jolly, you see the magic was in the Santa suit, when a Claus puts on the suit, they magically change into the Santa Clause that everyone knows.
"Buddy your mother and I will be sending you off to learn the true meaning of Christmas" Chris explained as Brett frowned slightly. "Bud, you are 27 and you know our tradition.." Brett finished it for him.
"A Claus needs to know the true meaning of Christmas and should be married to the next Mrs. Claus before his 30th birthday" Brett recited it as if he has been told a million times and he has lost count of how many times, he has been told these words.
"Where are you sending me?" Brett asked curiously as Chris thought for a moment and replied
"New York" Brett sighed and nodded "I will have Finn following you and make sure you are safe" Brett sighed again before rolling his eyes.
"Dad I don't need to be looked after, I have lived away from home before" Brett commented as Chris glared at him causing him to bite his tongue again.
"Bud look you have lived away from home but your mother wanted someone she trusts to look out for you" Chris explained as Brett nodded again.
"I can't come home till I find the meaning of Christmas do I?" Brett asked as Chris nodded and grinned "how long did it take you to find it?" he questioned
"4 years" Brett's mouth gaped open in shock making Chris laugh "it took me a while to find it but it was worth it in the end" Chris continued as Brett frowned slightly.
"You can always call home bud but, this is a journey you need to do" Brett sighed and nodded
"Okay" Brett said softly.
Brett spent the last few days packing the stuff he needed before he just sighed and said goodbye to his family and traveled by magic portal which is a snow globe that you twist and it would teleport you anywhere you want to go.
New York where his long-time best friend, Finn Hudson was. The portal made him appear in front of Finn's front apartment door. Brett heard a gasp and saw a little girl no older than 8 gasping as Brett smiled before placing a finger on his lip and whispered
"Keep this a secret little one okay?" he said softly as the little girl nodded and giggled causing the door to open to reveal an older woman who looked like the little girl which Brett assumed was her mother. They both had blond hair and hazel-green eyes.
"Why you giggling out her Beth?" she asked as she locked the apartment door then her daughter pointed at Brett who waved
"Hello, I am Brett!" Brett said happily as the woman smiled and gave him a warm smile. "You must be Finn's neighbor nice to meet you!"
"Oh hello, I am Quinn and this is Beth nice to meet you too!" Quinn and Brett shook hands as he just smiled happily at her. "Are you staying with Finn?" she asked curiously as Brett nodded
"Yeah, I am staying with him for a while till I sort a few things out" Brett commented as he knocked on the door. It was only a couple of seconds when Finn came out. A tall person who had short black hair and a wide smile.
"Hey bud" Finn waved as Brett hugged him tightly "hi Quinn, Beth seems like you meet Brett!" he commented as Quinn giggled softly
"Yeah we need to go to school, I'll see you later" the mother and daughter left.
"Did Beth see you teleport here?" Finn asks as Brett nodded as they entered the apartment. Finn Hudson was a long time friend of Brett. He knew about Brett's heritage and he freaked out but he promised to never reveal their secret. He has kept that secret ever since. As long as he gets to visit the North Pole every few months.
"Yeah but you know when kids say stuff like I saw this man teleport, parents will just say it's the kid's imagination" Brett commented as Finn laughed and agreed.
"So you know you can't teleport everywhere right?" Finn told Brett who nodded "you need to live a New Yorker again!" he patted him on the back as Brett rolled his eyes.
"Come on let's get you unpacked and we can go for something to eat" Brett agreed as Finn showed him to his room. After an hour of unpacking, Brett put on his navy hoodie and followed Finn. Since he was from the North Pole, he was used to the cold and the New York winter weather was nothing compared to the North Pole weather. When they got downstairs, there was a small bakery across the road named "Snix Bakery" Brett saw through the window the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in his life. It was a petite woman who had luscious black hair that was pulled into a ponytail and dimples appearing when she was serving customers.
"Come on let's go to the bakery, they make amazing sweets!" Finn said as they crossed the road. Finn knew that Brett had a really bad sweet tooth which he guessed was because his family was constantly making sweet food but he was jealous at how he didn't gain any weight no matter how much you eat. When they entered the bakery, the woman that he saw walked up to them with a large smile showing her dimples and her beautiful dark brown eyes.
"Hi Finn!" she said "who's your friend?!" she asked curiously as she looked at him up and down.
"Oh this is Brett Claus-" Brett quickly hit him causing him to stop and say "Brett Pierce, my friend, he is staying with me for a while," Finn said as Santana raised an eyebrow at him before saying
"Welcome Brett, my name is Santana, what would you like?" she asked as Brett thought for a moment as he looked at the sweet things around him.
"Oh, can I get the black forest cake please?" Brett asked as Santana nodded then turned to Finn
"Can I get the triple chocolate cake please!" Finn said happily as she got the baked goods and handed it to them on paper plates. They paid and went to sit near one of the windows. When Brett took a bite and smiled it was really good something that could just be as good as his own mother's.
Brett looked around the decor and saw it was not decorated for Christmas which was in a few weeks. "Santana hates Christmas" Finn commented as he knew what Brett was thinking when he was looking around.
"Why?" Brett was baffled at what he said
"Because it's just for people to make money on stupid things like Santa Claus, Decorations, and annoying Christmas songs, it's a joke" Santana appeared behind them serving them some hot drinks.
"But Christmas is a great time for Family, Friends, and everyone to get together" Brett defended as Santana glared at him.
Santana growled "Christmas is just the period of where people spend so much money on gifts that will end up in the trash, do not get me started on that stupid Santa thing, everyone knows he is made up!" she said casually as Finn didn't know what to say while Brett was still trying to defend his family.
"Why do you hate Christmas?" Brett asked curiously as Santana's eyes squinted evilly at him while Finn was tugging on his hoodie getting his attention to get him to stop talking.
"When I was a kid, my father and mother told me Santa who is this magic gift-giver will give me a present so long as I was a good kid" Brett listened carefully "I asked the fat man if he can keep my parents together and he said he will, you know what they divorced on the same year so hate to burst your bubble blondie but Christmas is a joke" Brett didn't know what to say
"I'm sorry I didn't know-" Santana slammed the coffee pot on the table causing Brett and Finn to jump.
"I don't want your sorry" with that she walked away as Brett looked at Finn who sighed and replied
"Don't worry Christmas is a touchy subject for her" Finn explained as Brett sighed before finishing the cake. After an hour, the store doorbell rang as it opened revealing Quinn who wore the same outfit as Santana before she went behind the counter whilst tying an apron.
"Quinn works here too," Finn told Brett who smiled and waved at Quinn who grinned and waved back. Brett drank his hot drink and continued catching up with Finn. Finn was working as a Mechanic and Brett had finished a degree in illustration at the same time as Finn. Hey just because he was the next Santa doesn't mean he can slack. His mother finished as a Nurse and his father an Architect before he took over as Santa. Brett loves to draw and help design the next wrapping paper they use or the design of toys.
It had been a couple of hours and the bakery was becoming quiet and the girls were just cleaning up. "Come on San please!" Quinn pleaded
"No, Quinn!" Santana said angrily
"Please every other shop has set up for Christmas Decoration, it's only this shop that has no ounce of Christmas Spirit!" Quinn commented "Come on please!" Quinn pleaded as Santana pinched her nose in annoyance.
"Fine! But you will get to clean it up!" Santana gave up as Quinn cheered and hugged her tightly.
"Thank you, San! I have so many ideas like putting up banners and stickers on the windows, the whole shebang!" Quinn stated then Santana smirked
"But you will be paying for the decoration" Quinn face dropped
"I don't have enough for the decoration," she said sadly as Santana shrugged
"Sorry Quinn if no money for decoration no decoration" she giggled as she walked away as Quinn pouted sadly while cleaning the tables. Finn looked at Brett who deep in thought, he already knew what he was thinking
"Brett don't!" Finn whispered as Brett just smiled and replied
"What I'm not doing anything" Finn looked at him with a raised brow
"Yet" Finn muttered as the two of them left.
That night, Brett picked up the portal transporter and watched the item in the snow globe change from Finn's apartment door to Snix Bakery. He smirked and twisted it. Brett smirked when the alarm didn't go off "Thank you Claus Magic" he muttered as he got a red sack and started digging into and retrieving lots of different Christmas materials and got to work.
Brett spent all night setting up the shop to give it the Christmas spirit. It was around 6 he had finally finished, he quickly teleported back to Finn's flat and laid on the bed excited.
That morning, Santana and Quinn opened the bakery and when the lights were switched on, they both gasped. There were beautiful Christmas decorations everywhere, it made it look like a winter wonderland. "Quinn?" Santana looked at her best friend who shook her head
"It's not me, I promise you," she said quickly as Santana rushed to the register and the safe checked that all the money was there. They were still there. "So someone came in and decorated?" Quinn asked nobody in particular.
"I bet you it's that Brett guy!" Santana said furiously as Quinn raised an eyebrow at her. "He was going on about the lack of Christmas decors that we had, I know let's check the security camera!" Santana and Quinn huddled to the back and tried to watch yesterday's footage but when they watched it, it was just black screen from 8pm-7am and everything was decorated.
"Strange the cameras are only a year old, can't be faulty already," Quinn said then kept looking at the decoration with awe and beauty. "Whoever did this is magic!" she squealed happily as they noticed a queue of people outside trying to stare and take pictures of the decorations. Santana looked around and admitted it looked beautiful, it made her remember when she was a kid helping her mother decorate their house for Christmas. Santana felt happy for a few seconds before remembering all of the shitty Christmas she had before frowning again.
"Come on San let's open!" Quinn said excitedly as the two got to work. There were so many people that came in to buy and take pictures of the decorations. It was around 5pm when Brett and Finn walked through the door wanting something to eat.
"Hey, Brett! Finn!" Quinn walked over to them "what can I get you?" she asked as Finn and Brett were looking around at the decorations. "Beautiful isn't it!" Quinn said happily
"It looks awesome!" Brett said "Looks like the North Pole here!" he said then Finn and Brett looked at each other eyes wide open in shock but Quinn just giggled and replied
"It looks great, San and I don't even know how it happened, we just came in this morning and poof!" she said waving her arms around before turning back to them "What would you like?" she asked
"Can I get strawberry cheesecake please?" Brett asked as Quinn nodded
"I'll have chocolate cake please!" Finn said as Quinn wrote their orders down and told them to take a seat. When they sat down Finn smacked Brett on the arm
"OW!" Brett whined as Finn glared at him
"What are you doing? Using your powers!" he hissed as Brett rolled his eyes.
"Just spreading Christmas Spirit that's all!" Brett replied as Finn shook his head.
"Idiot!" he muttered as Santana came over with their orders.
"Who is an idiot?" Santana said as she placed the plates in front of them. Santana glared at Brett "I know it was you that turned this place into this stupid winter wonderland, I don't know how you did it but once I get proof you, I will report you for breaking and entering!" Santana said before leaving while Brett just scratched his head and looked at Finn with the 'I told you' look.
When they were about to leave, Quinn chased after them "Finn can I ask a favour?!" Quinn asked
"Sure?" Finn said unsurely
"Can you babysit Beth tomorrow, Puck is working so he can't look after her, please" she begged as Finn nodded "Thank you!" the blond hugged the tall boy then she looked at Brett. "Oh, Beth keeps asking if you could show her a few magic tricks! She has been calling you magic man!" Finn and Brett looked at each other laughing weakly
"Really?" Brett tugged on his shirt collar slightly before saying "Magic was a hobby of mine" Brett commented to try and make it more realistic while Santana rolled her eyes and replied
"Could you be any more of a nerd?" Brett pouted slightly a little hurt with that comment. "First he breaks and enters to decorate my bakery and now he thinks he is the next Dynamo" She walks away shaking her head laughing while Quinn frowned slightly.
"Don't mind her Brett, she is just a grinch" Quinn giggled as Brett and Finn smiled.
Brett and Finn were walking around New York. "Oh look Santa's Grotto," Finn teased as he pointed out Santa's grotto where they had lots of kids lining up to see a man playing Santa and taking money off parents so their child can tell him what they want for Christmas and a picture.
Brett smirked as he did it a few Christmas ago. He set up a Santa's Grotto in Central Park but he never took any money. He used the magic Santa hat that transforms him into the Iconic Santa Claus. His parents said it would be good practice to understand what children wanted and how to make them happy. The line was the longest anyone has ever seen because everyone loved the decoration and the kids loved Santa. Brett loves bringing happiness to people, he guessed it was due to his genes but he loves seeing people smile and making them smile.
Seeing Santana smile made Brett want to do everything he can to make her smile. When she smiles it felt like the room was warmer and felt like home. But then Brett remembered her words to him and sighed.
When they got back, Brett quickly teleported back to the North Pole to check something. He walked into his father's office and looked at letters that they keep. They keep every letter that was written to them. As long as the letter addressed Santa and the North Pole, it found its way to the North Pole. Brett started rifling through the letters to look for something.
"Honey?" Jenna came in looking curiously "What are you doing?" she asked as she watched her son look through millions and millions of letters. It took them forever to organize them alphabetically but they didn't have the heart to throw them away.
"I'm looking for Santana Lopez's letters as a kid" Brett commented as Jenna raised an eyebrow at him and chuckled softly.
"Oh? Any reason why?" Jenna asked curiously as she watched his son look through the letters.
"I want to get to know her better and try and get her to like Christmas, I mean who doesn't like Christmas?!" Brett commented as Jenna shook her head.
"Honey Santana Lopez has been on the Naughty List since she has turned 8 which was a shame she was a sweet girl," Jenna said as Brett stopped and looked at his mother.
"How do you know her?" Brett asked as Jenna smiled
"History is repeating itself isn't it," she said softly before saying "It's a secret, I'll tell you one day" she winked as she nudged her head towards the Naughty and Nice book. This was a large red leather book that was thick and never-ending.
Brett got the book and opened it then started searching for Santana Lopez. Brett read everything she had done as a child, she was sweet until 8 and she was always on the naughty list even till this day she was still on the naughty list!
"Hmm interesting," Brett said as he continued to read about Santana. After a few hours, Brett teleported back to Finn's apartment into his room. He could hear Beth giggling in the living room making him smile. Brett unlocked his bedroom door and opened it before heading to the living room seeing Quinn dropping Beth off.
"Beth be good to Uncle Finn and Brett okay?" Quinn told her daughter who nodded then ran over to Brett.
"Can you show me Magic?!" she asked excitedly as Brett laughed softly before kneeling down to be eye-level with her. He had his hands behind his back and used his magic to conjure up a magician hat and wand before placing them on top of Beth's head and the wand in her hand.
"Come on let's teach you some magic" Brett winked as grabbed the hat from her head and reached in before pulling out a few magic items like cards, balloons, and flowers. Quinn raised an eyebrow at Brett but couldn't help to smile at how much fun Beth was having.
Brett was playing and teaching simple magic tricks to Beth who was enjoying it so much. Finn just watched the two interact before he joined in. Brett has played with almost any toy imagined when he was a kid, perks of being Santa's son so he was quite good at remembering how to do magic tricks, playing board games, card games, and building toys as well.
"You are so cool Mr. Brett! You are magic like Santa Claus!" Beth said happily as Brett and Finn laughed dryly. "Did you see the decoration that Auntie Sanny has in her shop?" Brett nodded "it's awesome! I wish me and Mommy can have decorations like that" she pouted as Brett looked at her.
"Why not Beth?" he asked curiously
"Mommy says we haven't got money to pay for many decorations this time" she explained as Brett nodded in understanding.
"You know sometimes Christmas Decoration doesn't have to cost much" Brett explained "I mean when I was a kid, my parents and I would make lots of decorations from paper-like paper snowflakes, making paper baubles" Brett continued as Beth gasped
"Can you teach me?!" she yelled as Brett laughed and nodded
"Hang on I should have some paper and pens we can use" Brett walked to his room and used his magic to make lots of colored paper and pens to appear. He came back and plopped it down in front of Beth who was sitting on the edge of her knees waiting for Brett's instructions.
"What do you want to make first?" He asked
"Snowflakes! Snow is my favorite thing!" she said "my birthday is tomorrow but Mommy said there will not be snow this year" Beth pouted but then shook her head "how do make snowflakes?" she asked curiously.
Brett, Finn, and Beth spent the rest of the day making Christmas decorations. A few hours later, Quinn came back with Santana in tow. "Where is my cute little darling Beth?!" Quinn said as Beth ran up to her mother and gave her a tight hug. "What did you do all day?" she asked curiously
"Brett showed me how to do magic tricks and we make Christmas decorations!" she dragged her mother and Santana to the living room where they saw lots of cute homemade Christmas decorations, they could instantly tell the cute childish ones were made by Beth. However there were beautiful ones that looked like a professional did it, the two looked between Brett and Finn. They saw the one that Finn was working on, it was clumsy which meant that Brett made the beautiful paper decorations.
"It was you that broke in my shop and decorated it!" Santana growled as Brett stood up and took a step back
"Woah Hang on!" Brett raised his hands in surrender and replied "I was here in the flat with Finn and I was still jet-lagged!" Brett commented as Santana's and Quinn's eyes narrowed
"Where are you from?" Quinn asked curiously
"Up North," Brett said then heard Finn muttered
"Up North as possible" Brett kicked him in the shin causing him to stop talking but thankfully the others didn't notice.
"I know it was you!" Santana said, "how did you do it?!" Santana accused Brett who took a step back.
"Woah! It wasn't me! The reason I know how to do this stuff" he gestured to the paper decorations "is my family had to make our own decorations that's all, I promise you on my life" Brett had one hand in his pocket and crossed his fingers "that it wasn't me" Santana stared into his sapphire eyes before sighing
"Fine!" Santana walked away and slammed the door behind her.
"I'm sorry about her, she is the Grinch!" Quinn said as Brett smiled at the two
"Well we made these decorations for you, Beth said that she wanted more decorations in the apartment and we just helped her" Brett commented as Quinn mouthed thank you to Brett before taking the homemade decorations home with Santana.
