A Normal Day At Curl Up And Dye

Review Reply: Singe7- Thanks for your review, I really appreciate it! :)

AN: So there aren't really many Descendants fanfics out there which have Dizzy in them, so I just had the idea to do this from her point of view. I have no idea how old she is, so I just decided that she is one year younger than Carlos and three years younger than the rest of the VKs. Random: I checked the views on my story on Thursday and I had exactly 101! Appropriate for this story which has Carlos in it! :) Ok, hope you enjoy this chapter!

I wrung out the holey towel at the paint-splattered sink. Today there weren't many customers, so I busied myself cleaning up around the salon just like Granny told me. She was upstairs now looking through her vast jewellery collection. I was looking forward to an early night so in the morning I could finish the accessories I had been designing before the first customers got there. Evie was coming today, so I really wanted to get them done so I could show them to her. She was such an inspiration for me, she made stunning clothes out of the meagre supplies of leftover fabric and random trinkets such as keys that we got here. And ever since she Mal, Carlos and Jay had been on that quest to get the Dragon's Eye, she had been making their outfits too.

I put the towel in the 'cleanish' pile next to the countertop that held the rickety old till, which I had livened up with a splash of paint. Ever since Evie had taken me under her wing two years ago, I had developed my own style, which was very over-the-top and colourful. I loved it!

I looked at the list we kept pinned up on the wall every day, showing the customers that were booked. Like I said, not many, only Ursula and Mother Gothel (a wash, hold the blow dry, and a curl with extra curl), which I had done already, and Cruella De Vil in the evening who wanted a trim and her roots done. This was unusual as Carlos normally did all this. Maybe she wanted a change of scenery? Most likely she just couldn't find him as he had gotten a lot more daring since hanging out with Jay. Jay would usually break him out of Hell Hall and then they would wander the streets causing mayhem everywhere.

Cruella wasn't expected until six, so I quickly tidied the shampoo bottles (I would collect all the leftover shampoos from the goblin ships and pour what was left into one bottle, until I had a few full bottles sorted into 'fruity', 'manly', 'posh', and 'extra bubbly' according to the shampoo leftovers) and then went into the storage closet to continue my designs. I grabbed a necklace I was making and glued a red gem carefully to a painted-gold background. Then while it was drying I went through my drawer and found what I was looking for: a small gold crown charm taken from a dirty charm bracelet I found at the market. I had washed it and then polished it until it shone. Taking the crusty glue bottle (obtained in the same way as the shampoo) I attached it to the top of the gem, then threaded it onto the golden chain. I smiled. Evie would love it!

Time went by quickly as I made a feathered hair accessory for myself, and a jewelled comb for Evie, and added the finishing touches on a bracelet I was planning to wear for my thirteenth birthday. Then the dangly bells I had put near the door rang and a familiar face walked in. "Evie!" I shouted excitedly and hugged her hard. She hugged me back, not even wobbling on her high heels.

"Dizzy! I missed you so much!" She hadn't been able to see me for a couple of weeks with her starting to attend Dragon Hall and the quest.

"Evie, I made some more jewellery!" I pulled her towards the storage room and showed her my designs.

"Dizzy, these are AMAZING! I love the necklace, you are so talented!"

I squealed in joy, I was so proud that Evie loved my designs. "The necklace and the comb are for you!" I told her.

"Wow, really? Thanks Dizzy I love them." She put the necklace around her neck and I secured the comb in her hair.

"They look awesome!" I observed. They really did look amazing, I was very proud of them. We hugged again and then chatted for about an hour. Evie told me what it was like at Dragon Hall, and how Mal had grabbed the Dragon's Eye from her at the last minute so she wouldn't fall asleep for a thousand years. I listened in wonder, and also updated her on the latest gossip from customers, and showed her some more sketches I had been working on. Then Evie checked the painty clock on the wall and said "I'm sorry Dizzy, but I have to go now. My mum's expecting me for another makeup session." We rolled our eyes at each other at Evie's annoying mother and hugged again.

"See you soon!"

"Bye!"

I sighed happily and did a little dance around the salon in my colourful apron and tulle skirt. Evie was my best friend! The clock said 5:30 so I had half an hour until Cruella got here. I tidied my designs away in my drawer in the storage room and was about to sketch some shoes when the bells rang again and the door slammed open. I went out to see who it was, and it was Carlos De Vil, standing there looking as if he had been running for miles. I didn't really know him, except that he had been on the quest with Evie, Mal and Jay. I didn't go to Dragon Hall, as Granny needed me around the salon, but I had heard tales and knew he was infamous for his excruciating Chinese burns (which he did often and then would pass the victim on to Jay) and his extreme fear of dogs (which other kids would try to use against him, but since the quest Jay had cracked his knuckles at anyone who wanted to bully Carlos and they ran away and left him alone.) "Can I hide here?" he asked, looking scared.

"Sure, I guess." I answered. It would be better to give him what he wanted, he wasn't as strong as the Gastons or Jay and he got bullied himself sometimes, but he was still the son of one of the worst villains and a year older than me. Then I realized something. "Hang on, what are you hiding from?"

"None of your business."

"Ok, well I have a customer in half an hour so you can hide in the storage room."

"Ok."

I led him into the storage room and he sat on a rickety stool. It bent alarmingly and he stood up quickly and selected another one. I saw him looking at the various sketches pinned on the walls. "Are these yours?"

"Yeah I did them."

"They look like Evie's" he said matter-of-factly, unaware of the huge compliment that he had paid me. I blushed, proud that he thought my sketches were as good as Evie's. I carried on sketching while he sat there deep in thought. Then the bell rang. "Oh, she's there." I said and straightened my apron.

"Who? Who's there?" he demanded.

I was taken aback by his urgency. "Your mother."

"No no NO! I need to hide, NOW!" his eyes were wild and he looked terrified.

"Well, stay in here and I'll close the door." I answered. Now I knew what he was hiding from. I knew Cruella was mean, but why would he be scared of his own mother?

I shut the door and went into the main salon. "Hi welcome to Curl Up And-"

"I want a trim and my roots done." she interrupted, in her posh voice.

"O-ok." I stammered. She was really scary! "D-do you want me to wash it for you?"

She stared me down with her cold eyes. "YES."

I started washing her hair, using the 'posh' labelled shampoo bottle. Then I combed it and trimmed the ends and blow dried it. As I was getting the black and the white hair dye, I hiccupped. Oh great, I always hiccup when I'm nervous. I started doing the white section of her hair and hiccuped again. The third time I hiccuped, she turned around quickly and I almost dropped the hair dye. "WHAT is that annoying noise?"

"Sorry ma'am, it was me."

"Well, make it STOP."

"Yes ma'am." And after that I bit my tongue every time I felt a hiccup coming on.

I was almost done dyeing her hair when I heard a crash from the storage room. "Sorry, I just need to check something." I told Cruella, and hurried to the storage room to see what was going on. Carlos was picking up the fallen paint pots and swearing under his breath. "Carlos, what's going on?" I whispered.

"I knocked these over." he whispered back.

"Well, I hope she didn't notice." I answered, and added "Why are you even hiding from her?"

"I got one of her furs wet, so she locked me in the closet but I climbed out the window." he said, looking embarrassed.

"Oh." I felt bad for him, but a very bad tempered customer was waiting for me so I closed the door again and apologized once more.

"Ugh, the service here is TERRIBLE." Cruella complained as I continued.

I decided to be daring and asked, "Why didn't you just get Carlos to do it?"

For a second I thought she was going to kill me, then she replied "Well, I locked him in my fur closet, why let him out again after such a short time?"

Wow, Carlos had it hard. I often felt annoyed when I had a lot of customers and work to do, but Cruella would give him huge lists of chores that were basically impossible to complete in the time she gave him.

"And while you're at it, I would like a manicure." She held her hand out. "I want them...extra sharp." she smiled ominously. I gulped and got the nailpolishes and nail file.

Once I had finished she walked out without even paying, like most of the villains I got in here. I went into the storage room where Carlos was near the door looking as if he'd been watching through the keyhole. "Hey Dizzy, you're not so bad. I was surprised you actually let me hide here."

"It's no problem Carlos. If I was you, I'd want to hide too." I replied. Carlos laughed and started humming that catchy Cruella De Vil song. I joined in until we finished the song and fell about laughing. "No but seriously, I think she's looking for you." I said once I had regained the ability to talk.

"Oh no, I need to get back. She'll be even more mad if she realises I escaped." With that he ran out the door. I tidied the hair dyes and then put on my ragged pjs and went to bed. Well, the sofa upstairs that I slept on with an old blanket. (Although better than most villain kids, rumor was that Jay slept on the floor in his Dad's shop and that Harry slept in half a big barrel.)

The next day I ran into Carlos at the market when I was getting some food for me and Granny. He smiled at me wearily, and I gasped in shock. He had four long, deep cuts on his face.

Sad ending, I know. Poor Carlos! :( Don't worry, things look up for him when he gets to Auradon! :)
