Alliances and Enemies

Next oneshot! This one is about Mal's and Yzla's gangs on the Isle, and an unexpected new member...

There were four main gangs on the Isle of the Lost: Uma's pirates, Yzla's gang, Ginny's obnoxious sneak thieves and Mal's band of misfits.

Each had their own territory, and each had their own enemies and alliances. The greatest rivalry was, of course, between Mal and Uma: the two girls were at each other's neck all the time. Ginny had tried to form an alliance with Uma many times over their shared hate for Mal, but Uma had refused, wanting to be the sole 'Mal-Hater'. Yzla and Mal were mostly at peace, they often formed alliances and had a few shared territories. This meant Uma and Yzla didn't see eye to eye and also often fought.

It was a normal day on the Isle, and Yzla was running around causing mischief in her new (well newly made from leftovers) outfit. Her latest deal with Mal had earned her and a couple of her gang members cool outfits made by Evie, and she was rocking the turquoise leather jacket with a purple feathered collar, the black and purple skirt and the turquoise Doc Martens that had been a miracle find off the goblin ships.

Her purple ponytail (lighter and more pastel coloured than Mal's) whipped round as she deftly stole a greenish orange from a passer by, and kicked them for good measure. She peeled the orange, ate some, and then grabbed a bottle of squished-lemon lemonade off a market stall. The owner shouted angrily and ran after her, but she just chucked a potion over her shoulder and he was trapped in pale blue foam which hardened on impact. One of the perks of being her mother's sole potion-tester (her older brother Zevon was always out) was that she could get her hands on many ingredients to make her own potions with.

She made her way to Mal's hideout while finishing her orange. The deal they had made involved trading of weapons, Mal could use some explosive potions, while Yzla was running low on knives. Mal stood ready at the hideout with a pile of knives sitting on the broken table. The younger girl took all her potions out and gave them to Mal, then Mal handed her the knives. They put the weapons they couldn't fit in their pockets on the shelf that Carlos had managed to fix.

"So, what does this one do?" Mal asked, holding up a green potion.

"If you throw it at someone it releases a tear gas." Yzla told her, checking out the knives.

"Cool." Mal pointed to a sharp, thin knife. "That one's really good for throwing, it gets in super deep."

Yzla threw it at the wall, and it stuck fast. "Awesome!" she said, going to retrieve it. They didn't really talk much, except to negotiate deals: neither of them were really the talking type. But Yzla respected Mal for her ruthless leadership and pure evil mind, and such was Mal's respect for Yzla that the only alliance she made was with her, despite being almost two years younger than Mal, a couple of months older than Carlos.

Mal sat down on a rickety chair and said, "So, anyone new in our gang?"

"No, everyone either sucks or is already in a gang." Both girls had quite small gangs, Mal had Carlos, Jay, Evie, Jace and Harry who were Carlos' dumb henchmen, and a few random kids which were just there for numbers. Yzla had Klunk, son of Kronk, Freddie Facilier, Dizzy Tremaine(who was only in the gang for protection in exchange for food and couldn't really fight) and some random people.

Mal sniggered and got up from the chair. "Ya know, I was going to stay but I think my mother wants me at the castle to memorize some more spells."

"Haha, enjoy that." Yzla laughed. Mal shoved her playfully and walked out. Yzla stayed in the hideout, chilling. (For once her mother didn't need her to test potions.) Her chilling was interrupted when the door flew open. Yzla got up to see who the hell it was, and found herself face to face with Rose, daughter of the Queen of Hearts. Rose walked in purposefully and stood with her hand on her hips. Being a year older than Yzla, and wearing really high heels, she towered above the younger girl but Yzla still intimidated her. "What do you want Rose?" Yzla demanded, not bothering to sound particularly threatening, Rose was gangless and lived in a card castle with her mother, like Evie. (Except the card part) She hardly ever went out because if you don't have a gang, you are easy pickings for everyone else and you can be ambushed and killed at any moment.

Rose breathed in and out, twirled a lock of her blood red hair around her finger, and said slightly shakily, "I want admittance into your gang." Yzla stared at her and started laughing.

"Y-you just asked to b-be in my gang!" Yzla sputtered, and Rose rolled her eyes as the smaller girl carried on laughing. Finally Yzla stopped cracking up and asked Rose "You can't be serious?"

"Why wouldn't I be?" Rose answered.

"Well, asking to join someone's gang is just weak, like you can't survive on your own. And I don't want someone weak in my gang."

"I'm not weak. I'm good with knives and axes and I'm pretty smart." Rose answered, jutting her chin out determinedly.

Yzla considered this for a moment and replied "Show me."

Rose took a couple of knives out from her pocket and pointed to a small gap in the wall opposite them. Then she threw the knife, it spun and flew perfectly through the hole, not even touching the wall on either side of it. Yzla's mouth dropped open. The Rose said "Hold your hand out with your fingers apart. Yzla did so, confused. The older girl stepped a few metres away from Yzla, holding the other knife. She turned her back to the daughter of Yzma, and threw the knife.

Yzla was astonished as the knife passed between her fingers and stuck in the wall. Rose turned back around and walked towards Yzla. "Are you gonna reconsider?" She asked bravely, smoothing her tulle skirt. Yzla's black eyes stared into her, and then she nodded.

"I'll give you a week. If you suck, you're out and I will personally see that you're killed. But if you're useful, then welcome to the gang." She said with a twisted smile. Rose nodded and watched as Yzla walked away, satisfied.

Rose couldn't believe that she had won her over, she knew that Yzla had been wanting new gang members, but asking admittance was a risky move and Rose was ecstatic that it had worked. Now she just had to show Yzla what the daughter of a bloodthirsty queen could do.

Dun dun DUUUN…. Sorry to leave it hanging, haha, but I'm planning to write sequels to some of these oneshots, this will probably happen once I'm out of original ideas! ;)

Until next week, unicornyay xx
