the line i'd walk for you
Losing Queenie is like having amnesia all over again — except he remembers the feeling of loss, of gut-wrenching, heart-aching agony as she steps through the fire and to Grindelwald's side.
He sees the tears glittering in Tina's eyes, but she has Newt. Jacob has them both, but he doesn't share the bond that the pair of them do. Newt is half in love with Tina and if Jacob had to wager, she feels the same way.
Better half in love than being in love and having your heart broken.
Jacob tosses and turns every night following Queenie's betrayal — god, is it a betrayal? It should be. It has to be. Nightmares plague his thoughts at night — well, they're not really nightmares until he wakes up. He dreams of Queenie, her beautiful smile, and her kind eyes, and they're walking down the street hand-in-hand. Jacob loses themselves in these dreams, indulging in Queenie until he wakes up in his bed, alone.
One night, reality bleeds into fantasy.
Jacob relives that day every night, trapped in his own mind, and struck dumb as Queenie stares at him longingly, surrounded by the ring of blue fire. She reaches out her hand, calling him, beckoning him, and his heart is torn in two. He wants to go to her, but he can't. It's wrong.
Every time, she begs for him.
"Forgive me, Jacob. I didn't have a choice!" she screams, her blonde hair tinted a strange color. She looks haunted, so tired.
"There's always a choice," he tells her around the lump in his throat. "You don't have to do this, darling." A hiccup. "C-Come back. We can find a solution together."
It ends the same way every time; the blue fire swirls around her and she's gone.
Jacob doesn't know how long he can go on like this, living, breathing, while she's not here, but he'll have to. He'll have to in order to find her.
The nightmares don't — won't — stop.
