18. Chapter 17

Excerpt from Raleigh Gazette, first published November 10th, 1953

NEWS FROM THE GOVERNMENT

After another crash late last night and wildfire that was only doused by an early morning downpour, Doctor Hynek, of the Government Agency Project Blue Book, arrived back to town and gave an explanation for the creature that has been seen. The good doctor theorized that the first crash, happening only four weeks before, brought down a bacterial spore that caused hallucinations. And with the strong wind conditions, the spores made their way into town, explaining the town-wide sighting of the creature. He said that the spore is not a danger to one's health, though it would be safer to avoid the forest for a few days to give the spore time to disperse. Only after Doctor Hynek had given his statement, military vehicles arrived to apparently clean up the second meteor that crashed.
