"Good morning, Joe, how's my favorite mail carrier?" Nonna smiled at the man who'd delivered her mail for the past several years. "How's that adorable little boy of yours?"
"Hi Nonna, he's great, thanks. Loving preschool." He handed her a package carefully printed in a child's hand. "Looks like another important item from your family in Hawaii."
Looking at the return address, she smiled. "From my pronipote DJ and bella bambini Angie, no doubt. I can't wait to read it and add it to my book of letters."
Once inside, cup of tea at her elbow, Nonna read the letter with a beaming smile and added it to the scrap book she'd started to hold the correspondence of the grandkids and newest generation. Rereading it, she leafed through several recent letters and pictured each of her famiglia as they'd put pen to paper.
Dear Nonna,
Thank you for the nots cookies!
We got them today. They are super good like always. We had some for desert tonight.
I got to bring Kaitlyn's cupcakes to school for my gotcha day! My friend April did that and even tho we had a special family dinner and your not cookies, Mommy and Daddy let me bring cupcakes in for every body.
This is a pictur of us with Pumpkin and Cammie. Mommy printed it so we can put it in our letter.
We put in turkey drawings we made too. We trased our hands to make them. That's why Angie's is smaller. Because her hand is smaller.
Uncle Danny said to Daddy you could be coming for Christmas. I hope you come for Christmas! You can see our tree with the special snowmen you helped me get for Mommy, Daddy, and Angie and I will give you a big hug!
I got two hits and a run in my game and Angie did a new flip at her gym!

I drew you a pictur of Elsa because it's almost winter in New Jersey. I hope you like it. I used my new glitter markrs for her dress.
Aunt Deb and Grandma Sue took me to the nail silon. I got blue nails with snowflaks! Aunt Deb and Grandma got red and pink. Grandpa said we look like we were ready to go out for lunch so we did! He took us to Hawkins for hambergrs.
Mommy and Daddy didn't come cause Mommy's friend got married and they went to her wedding. They were all dressed up and looked like a princess and prince!
We are going to Hawaii for thanksgiving and I am going to pack my glitter markrs so cousin Angie and primo DJ can try them.

Hi! How are you? I'm really good. Kaitlyn came home from dinner at Uncle Danny's and said you are thinking about coming for Christmas!
Pleeeeeeeeese come! It will be so fun, we came to New Jersey last year so it can be our turn to have you here.
Dylan is working on a project for the science fair and I know he's gonna win because it's this awesome thing about human and robot interfaces. He had to explain what that even meant to me and I don't really remember but he can tell you too.
Cody and Jadon took me and Reggie to a UH game and UH won! It was the best. We had hotdogs and fries and they bought us UH shirts!
I have to go do my homework, so I will see you soon on Skype.
Remember to please come to Hawaii for Christmas!

Dear Nonna,
How are you? Classes are tough but I'm maintaining my GPA and so far Integral Calculus is my favorite. I called Aunt Elizabeth twice so far with a question and she's amazing.
I'm really busy with track conditioning and school, but my roommate and I still go out and have fun with some of the other people on our floor. We play Ultimate Frisbee and Spikeball a lot. Spikeball is a little like volleyball but with a net that looks like a trampoline. I guess it's kind of hard to explain. I'll send you a video so you can see it.
It's been so good having Mary, Aaron, Joan and Aunt Deb close. I visit whenever I can and have had dinner there, which makes me miss Mom and everybody a little less. Joan is so adorable, she calls the spare bedroom my room when I'm there. I even stayed over a few times because she looked at me with those eyes just like Jacob used to and I couldn't say no!
I can't wait to see everyone at Thanksgiving and eat all the delicious homemade food. The meal plan is pretty good actually, but you know better than anyone that nothing beats home cooking.
I'm running to study group and I'm bringing the Chex mix Angela and Francesca made last Christmas. It's a huge hit here.

I hope you weren't trying to keep a Christmas visit secret, because Danny told Steve and they are like ten year olds with a new toy.
We are all very excited, you know how much we love your visits. Angie has been chanting, "Nonna comin', Nonna comin' for Christmas" since yesterday.
I hope you enjoy this Monkeypod jam. I had a meeting on Kauai and I remember how much you liked it so I picked up a few jars.
I'm also enclosing the latest photo of your newest furry great grandcat. Of course Cammie adores her and thank goodness the feeling is mutual. The sight of Steve reading through evidence with a tiny orange fluff ball on his shoulder definitely required a photo for posterity.

Nonna closed the book and smiled as she took a bite of the cookie she'd made with the jam Catherine remembered she loved and took time to buy in the midst of an island hop for a meeting.
Thinking of Jacob, her eyes twinkled as she thought, 'It'll be the best Christmas yet."
